Jman06:I'm of the opinion that the best way to increase your salary is to change jobs. We that are not in the academics do it often. Professors should learn it. |

Jman06:If you succeeded, you will not be begging for another increment, rather; it is somebody that is not succeeded that should be wailing and making noise. No employer can make you rich in life, if you want to become rich, go and work it out by yourself. If you type first 100 richest men in the world or even africa, you will never see salary earners among them. How is that a difficult logic to understand? Since you know there is money in politics, then what are you waiting for; use your leg to go and join politics now and get elected. There are professors and PhD holders in the Senate or other elective positions too outside academic environment, go and join them. And if you think, they pay well in UK than Nigeria; then you have already solved half of the problems by knowing, now complete it by going to UK to earn your own bigger money. How is that problem you can't solve if you are not lazy? |

yemmit90:Politicians selling their properties and taking huge loans for elections, is not sacrifice but "investment" and they intend to recoup all they spent, in many folds through misappropriation of public funds at the expense of the lives of millions of Nigerians. I am employed by a London borough (local government), the head of my unit as a civil servant earns more than a UK MP (equivalent to Nigeria's senator), not to talk of the CEO of the borough whose salary is more than twice of what Kemi Badenoch earns as an MP. |

Salary increments is not going to solve Nigeria's problem, beating down inflation is what is needed to solve it,we need to have an economy where a hundred thousand naira a month salary will be able to adequately take care of a family of six comfortably,we need a country where the price of goods and services are reasonable and affordable,we need an economy where a thousand naira will comfortably buy decent meals for 4 people with change remaining, all this una oland of increasing salaries will only add to the already damaging inflation that we are suffering from. It is crazy that we have drowned so low that we are now paying millions as salaries and the millions still can't care for us because the millions is of little value,we need to make the naira have value AGAIN. |

Mindlog:Nigeria politics is different to UK politics, be realistic please. The dynamism and prerequisite of politics in this country will never allow office holders to be less corrupt. You don't expect someone to spend 200m naira to get to the office and be giving him 1m per month for just 4 years. He/she will definitely steal to recouped all money spent plus profits. Until Nigeria dish out presidential system of government and embrace regionalism with unicameral representatives at the centre, we can't move forward a bit as a country. |

Jman06:Turn that your intellectual property to lift yourself out of poverty first before you ever remember helping the world. Google guys were PhD holders, their parents were professors; they could have gone into lecturing easily, but they use their own intellectual property to first lifted themselves out of poverty, then reach out to help the world. Now, they are one of the employers of labour worldwide today instead of crying for salary increment like you. Add more value to yourself if you think you have that intellectual property you claimed to get out yourself out of poverty and stop all these increment noise. Many of you are only deceiving yourselves on paper with your unsellable intellectual property . Copy and paste of student projects is what many of you called intellectual property of which real world researchers have moved away from that your kindergarten intellectual property. If you actually have real original intellectual property, you would have moved out to look for organizations that will help turn your intellectual property to money making ventures or sell them to lift yourself out of poverty forever or struggle to build that your intellectual property and bid bye bye to poverty that will no longer be fighting for salary increment. You better stop deceiving yourself with intellectual properties as if we are just hearing it for the first time. Keep eating your intellectual property if you can't turn it to money and stop yearly noise of salary increment. |

Some of these so called professors still help corrupt politicians to rig elections. Even if you don't have money, don't sell your dignity and self esteem. |

sreamsense:The chicken and the egg, which comes first. Your nation rewards mediocres while playing down on the bases of technological development. The average Nigerian students believe that Education is a scam. Have you asked yourself the question why? If the government prioritise importing rather than manufacturing, wouldn't you have a nation of backwardness? By the way, Doesn't make sense that to Be a Professional either as a Doctor, Lawyer, Engineer, Teacher etc you need far more than an OND but to be the President of this nation or a Senator or a House of Rep member, all you need is evidence that you attempted GCE or SSCE? Is this not an aberration? |

Shawarmagirl:Tell us those that stopped you from travelling by japa. It is not new, go and try your luck. We have seen professor that left Nigeria to become taxi driver since he was not lucky enough, you could be lucky. We have seen those that regretting bitterly about tax and how the collect salary with right hand and pay UK government back in taxes with left hand. Since you know where money is, don't disturb our peace, use your legs to go there. You don't need university professors before you can speak good English, instead give your secondary and primary school teachers accolade they deserve. Some professors that hardly attend classes and some already tagged sex for mark can't contribute to your fluency in English |

sreamsense:.The google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin didn't finished their Phd. They both left the program when it seems they have better opportunities then. To be sincere many who found themselves in academic are only there because there are no other choices. To be really successful and rich in life one need to find his or her own path not through paid employment. |

| Re: Looming Crisis In Universities: Professors Earn ₦633,333, Senators '₦21 Million' by Mindlog: 7:34pm On Aug 31, 2025 |
yemmit90:Reason, I earlier posted that a politician selling his properties for elections is not sacrifice but investment. He/she is not intending to serve the people but to scoop from the commonwealth. Even if you pay a Nigerian politician who spent that N200m to get into office, N20m monthly for the next 4 years, his/her mind is already programmed to steal billions within that 4 years...it is a bottomless pit. |

TenQ:Life is full of choices. If you think being a president is your priority, go and join politics with your WAEC or professorship/PhD certificate, there is always a minimum entry. As far as I know, nobody puts embargo on PhD or professors not to join politics too if you think they get well paid than you. Since you know being in senate or be a president is where you can get bigger money, room is opened for you "Waka go there" or if you think UK pay well, no need for you to make noise; process your "Japa", and when you use your professorship or PhD to end up as taxi driver in UK, don't blame anybody, just blame yourself and take responsibility for not being lucky enough like others If a WAEC holder becomes your president based on your reasoning, is it not more shameful for a professor to even be approaching that "WAEC president" to increase your salary. You see the WAEC president being your boss now and more successful than you, then; then if you are not lazy too, carry your professorship/PhD certificate to also queue for future presidency. It is part of hustling. It becomes more shameful to allow your certificate to turn you to a lazy person that can not take any more other jobs or compete for better opportunity even in politics or elsewhere, only to wait at the same spot lamenting salary increase on yearly basis |
