Across cultures and centuries, wise men and women have cautioned that life’s true purpose was never about riches. From the beginning of time, every sacred tradition has whispered the same truth: the human soul did not come into this world to build empires of gold, but to grow, to mature, and to experience life in all its shades. Wealth was never meant to define us. In fact, history shows again and again that the quest for riches has led to some of humanity’s darkest deeds. The Bible says plainly: “The love of money is the root of all evil.” Jesus Himself warned that it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God. The Qur’an cautions believers against greed, reminding them that even if a man had two valleys of gold, he would desire a third. The Buddha, too, taught that all suffering springs from attachment and craving. In every tongue, in every land, the message has been the same: money is not just a tool: it is also a test. Think about it: when did mankind’s greatest cruelties begin? Wars, slavery, colonization, even modern corporate exploitation—at their root lies the lust for wealth. The trans-Atlantic slave trade, one of the greatest atrocities in human history, was not born of necessity but of profit. Millions of Africans were chained, sold, and shipped across the seas, not because their captors lacked food or shelter, but because sugar and cotton brought unimaginable riches. Colonial empires were not built to spread light but to plunder resources. Wars were waged for oil, for gold, for land. Behind it all was money—Lucifer’s oldest trick, his first victory over mankind. And look closer at the human heart. Give a good man just enough to survive, and you will often see humility, kindness, and gratitude. Give that same man millions, and too often his soul begins to rot. History is littered with men who, upon acquiring great wealth, turned lustful, greedy, and vile. Power and riches magnify the darkness in the human heart. How many stories can you recall of wicked poor men suddenly becoming kind after they grew rich? Hardly any. But there are countless testimonies of once-cruel, arrogant rich men who lost their fortune, tasted the reality of hardship, and found compassion. Poverty humbles; wealth intoxicates. Even in our personal lives, this truth is visible. Some of the happiest marriages you will ever see are not in palaces or mansions but in simple homes where husband and wife face life’s challenges together. Struggle becomes their bond. Middle-class families, though far from perfect, often show genuine affection and unity. But among the very wealthy, too often, marriages become transactions, facades, or arrangements of convenience. Money can buy comfort, but it cannot buy loyalty, intimacy, or peace. Modern psychology confirms what ancient scriptures warned: greed never satisfies. The more people acquire, the more they crave. Lottery winners and billionaires often confess that life lost meaning once all desires were instantly met. Stripped of struggle, stripped of striving, life feels hollow. What makes life precious is not unlimited abundance, but the daily journey—the effort to provide, the discipline of endurance, the small victories that come from overcoming. These are the crucibles that shape character. This is why mankind was never designed to be extremely rich. Wealth was never supposed to be our purpose. Life itself—with its ups and downs, its cycles of having and losing, its constant call to resilience—is the real treasure. The true gift is not the million in the bank account, but the strength of character forged in the fire of struggle. If you doubt this, ask yourself: Why do so many of the rich end up restless, empty, even self-destructive? Why do sacred books from every culture warn against the love of money? Why is it that humanity’s darkest chapters—from slavery to wars to corporate exploitation—trace back to the lust for wealth? The answer is clear: man was not created to be rich. We were created to be good. To grow. To experience. To love. To serve. Money will always have its place, but only as a servant. The moment it becomes the master, man loses his soul. Wealth without wisdom becomes a curse. Poverty with dignity, on the other hand, often produces kindness, empathy, and resilience. So, the question is not whether you will be rich or poor in this life. The question is: what will you become in the face of what you have—or don’t have? Will you allow money to define you, or will you embrace the deeper design of life, which is growth, maturity, compassion, and spiritual fulfillment? At the end of it all, no one takes riches to the grave. But the soul carries forward the lessons it learned: lessons of endurance, humility, and love. That, not wealth, is the real inheritance of mankind. |

The Curse of Excess Wealth Have you ever noticed how a video of a young couple living in the so-called trenches can leave you in awe? They may not have much, yet when you see them sharing a small meal, laughing together in a tiny room, or rejoicing over a little win, you feel something genuine, something almost sacred. Then you compare it to a rich couple draped in gold and splendor, posing for the cameras, and all you can sense is emptiness behind the glitter. This is because mankind loses himself in the fog of excess wealth. Take two men: Kehinde and Emeka. Kehinde has it all. He can buy anything he wants. At first, it seems like a blessing. But over time, life begins to lose its meaning for him. With every desire instantly satisfied, his soul grows numb. That spark of humanity, that inner fire that comes from striving and struggling, starts to fade away. Boredom creeps in. Then he begins to seek amusement in the darkest corners—excessive indulgence with women, experiments with drugs, even dabbling in perversions he never imagined. Some men in his shoes have even used their money to fund wars, not because they needed to, but because they were desperate to feel something again. Kehinde has fallen into the trap of excess wealth, and in it, he has lost himself. Now look at Emeka. Emeka struggles from time to time. He has to save carefully for years just to buy a small plot of land. Yet, when that moment finally comes, the joy that fills his heart is indescribable. His wife dances, his children beam with pride, and the whole family feels as though they have conquered the world. Every milestone, no matter how small, feels like a miracle. This cycle of striving, struggling, achieving, and rejoicing keeps his spirit alive. Each challenge makes him stronger, each breakthrough makes life sweeter. Ironically, Kehinde, with all his billions, will often feel a dagger in his heart when he sees Emeka and his wife rejoicing over something so “small.” Why? Because deep down, Kehinde knows he can never feel that joy again. His wealth has robbed him of the simple, untainted happiness of achievement. He has the money, but he has lost the meaning. Emeka has little, but he has life. And that is the cruel secret no one tells you: excess wealth does not always add to life; many times, it subtracts from it. This is why from time immemorial rich warlords and masters always seek to destroy the poor. For their joy puzzles him. He cant fathom why with all his wealth and splendor he cant muster the sort of joy he sees in the face or Emeka and his wife over something so small. This anger leads to hate and he wants to subjugate and take away from emeka and his wife that mall plot of land just to see them cry. Their joy irritates him |

For some wealth is byproduct of getting it right. Some others have made it the evidence of getting it right. Others think it is the medium to get it right. To some, it is just a medium that can aid getting it right. I am an hybrid of the first and last. |

Each morning, Kehinde wakes not with gratitude, but with venom in his heart. He looks at his vast mansion, his fleets of cars, his endless accounts filled with money, yet he feels no peace. Instead, he whispers to himself: “How can I break that couple? Who are they to laugh when I cannot? How dare they rejoice while I, with all my riches, taste only emptiness?” As misery has always loved company, Kehinde begins to plot. If he has been robbed of joy, then no one else must taste it either. Especially not Emeka and his wife, those poor “wretches” who, in their small rented home, somehow radiate happiness that his billions cannot buy. He tells himself: “If I cannot smile, then neither shall they. If I cannot find meaning in my abundance, then let their little milestones become meaningless too.” So he begins to wield his wealth like a weapon. He doubles the price of food in the market. He triples the gate fees to their neighborhood. He schemes, manipulates, and invents new burdens, all in the hope that the laughter he hears from their home at night—the laughter of two parents playing with their children, the laughter that stabs him like daggers—will finally be silenced. But here is the irony of wealth’s curse: though Kehinde can raise prices, though he can erect barriers, though he can make life harder, he cannot touch the source of Emeka’s joy. For Emeka’s joy is not built on money. It is built on struggle, on gratitude, on love. Even when food is scarce, even when rent is late, Emeka and his wife still sit with their children, share their little, and give thanks. Their happiness is drawn from the eternal well of the human spirit—a well no billionaire can poison. And so Kehinde grows darker with each sunrise. His riches have not only failed to give him life, they have turned him into a destroyer of life. Where Emeka gains humanity through struggle, Kehinde loses his through excess. |

Curse Despite all the heavy burdens Kehinde heaps upon Emeka and his wife, the laughter from their tiny home continues. No matter the rising food prices, the impossible gate fees, or the endless hardships, each night their voices still echo in joy. Their little home remains a fountain of laughter, and that laughter pierces Kehinde’s soul like swords. Each evening as he lies in his bed of silk, he clenches his fists in rage, more determined than ever to drown out that joy and replace it with sorrow. Desperation breeds cruelty. And Kehinde, in his madness, turns to the one weapon that has enslaved more men than money itself: religion. Like many of the wealthy, Kehinde has purchased for himself a seat in paradise. His General Overseer assures him that his tithes and donations guarantee him a mansion in heaven. He is a pillar of the church, seated proudly at the very front each Sunday among the National Council of Elders, where only the rich and powerful sons and daughters of Christ sit. His name is praised, his influence unquestioned. And so Kehinde hatches his darkest plan yet. He whispers into the ear of his Daddy GO a vile tale: that Emeka has been molesting his own daughter, that cries are heard from his home at night, that he beats his wife mercilessly. The Pastor, ever loyal to the hand that feeds him, believes Kehinde’s word over the poor man’s. After all, who will listen to the voice of poverty when it stands against the testimony of wealth? Alas, Emeka and his wife are disgraced. Cast out of the church that once gave them solace, stripped of their honor, condemned without trial. Emeka’s heart shatters. His spirit, once bright with love and laughter, breaks under the weight of shame. His body follows soon after. Depression, heartbreak, and high blood pressure steal him from the world. And in a final act of mockery, Kehinde donates lavishly to Emeka’s burial. He erects a grand statue in the town square, engraved with golden words: “Here lies the most honest and pious of men that ever lived.” The crowd whispers, some in confusion, some in admiration, but all behold the hypocrisy etched in stone. Yet when night falls, Kehinde celebrates. He dances in secret halls, hosting orgies and feasts, laughing in drunken ecstasy. He posts pictures of his luxury on Instagram for the youth to see, so that the next generation will envy his wealth and forget the quiet dignity of Emeka. Finally, the laughter from Emeka’s home has been silenced. At last, Kehinde believes he has won. But even this is not enough. Kehinde moves to buy Emeka’s land, forcefully evicting his grieving family. He triples their rent, throws them into the streets, and ensures that their pain will echo far beyond Emeka’s grave. |

I resonate with this your teaching. But I'm curious as to understanding the story of king Solomon in the Bible, as it relates to earthly resources Could it be boredom from having most of what he wanted in life, that made him turn from God, as the Bible states Or was it an error on the Bible to misled us into thinking a man's many wives plus bountiful resources made him sin, when even men without reproductive organs aren't holy What really happened to the earthy richest and wisest man in the Bible? |

Reverseng:The stories you have written are embellished as all narrations written by man. you already answered the question , errors in narration by mistake or intentional to push a narrative. The concept of richest and wealthiest are all man made |

HelpYourself:Wealth and power doesn't change people much, it only brings out what is already there. The Kehinde of your story is more of a sadist or narcissist. Narcissists want to be better than you, higher, richer. A good number of them also want to be able to control you and have you under them. Wealth and power only gives this people the ability to do as they want or always wanted, especially with vulnerable people. Wealth didn't change them, but empowered and emboldened them, giving them the means to carry out their flawed judgments, perversions and mentality. I do agree that man isn't meant to be utterly rich, this doesn't advocate for poverty or lack, especially of basic needs. |

fredwill1357:I never advocated for poverty or lack of basic needs. Most people seem to confuse saying on should be content with advocating for lack, this is not on me but on you. I cant help it if most people cant conceptualize contentment but instead confuse it with poverty |

HelpYourself:I did not say you advocated for poverty, and I also never condemned contentment. I did agree too much wealth is vain and unnecessary, however I do not encourage too much struggles, discomfort and sufferings either. While this things or phases can sometimes build us, teach and also enlighten us. Too much of it becomes hellish. |

fredwill1357:The phrase too much is merely your perspective. What you call suffering or too much is subjective! what i consider as too much will nit be what the next person considers as too much or enough. And again you choose to play judge and jury over the creator to decree what you deem as too much forgetting that each and everyone's experience is molded by the said person in previous lives actions and deeds. ![]() |
