Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, is once again at the center of controversy as past remarks about paying Fulani groups to curb violence in Southern Kaduna have resurfaced, just as he now criticizes the Federal Government for allegedly funding bandits.

A recent Channels TV interview reignited debate about his past policies and his sharp criticism of the current administration’s security strategy.

During his tenure, El-Rufai openly admitted that his government facilitated compensation to some Fulani groups to halt reprisals after the 2011 post-election crisis.

However, an EMPOWERED NEWSWIRE review of archived interviews shows how firmly he once stood by these payments, portraying them as conflict resolution rather than incentives for violence.

Fast forward to 2025, and the tone has changed dramatically. In another Channels TV interview, El-Rufai denounced what he describes as a federal policy of paying bandits to maintain fragile peace, warning it would worsen insecurity rather than solve it.

El Rufai is a confused politician ,who thinks that other Nigerians suffer his specie of amnesia.

Like they're unaware this is never the solution.

There was a time in the history of this country. Just a few decades ago. Niger Delta militant groups became very notorious. The were committing all manners of crimes, from kidnapping, armed robbery, pipeline vandalism..........e.t.c, e.t.c while this was happening, the North never had what is being experienced as banditry or Boko Haram.

The Federal Government ended up sitting on a round table with the Niger Delta militant groups and today we can see all see.

El Rufai wasn’t governor in 2011.

He became governor in 2015.

The person who posted this video is not a good person because that was not what El-Rufai was saying. Why cut a little part of a video and claim what was not said

I am not a fan of El-Rufai but what he was saying was that he paid headsmen who lost cattle in a crisis in Kaduna. El-Rufai never claimed to have paid bandits El-Rufai compensated both Christians and Muslims in that conflict

Short people? They are far from God. El-Rufai at some point, visited Chad and Niger to pay those Fulani guys to stop attacks in Kaduna. He knows who they are, he knows where they stay.

The Fulani killing all over Nigeria now are the same Fulani these politicians brought to deal with Jonathan had he refused to concede the 2015 elections. These Fulani were camped in strategic locations all over the country waiting for the signal to attack. Jonathan conceded and Buhari stupidly neglected to settle these foreign Fulani and tell them to return to their countries.

Remember the first kidnapping of passengers on the Abuja-Kaduna railway. What did the kidnappers ask for? Money? No! They only made one statement.

"The president knows what we want."

Less than 2 months later, all the security architecture of Abuja looked away as Kudje prison got attacked and hardened Fulani killers got freed. Till date, not one explanation exists as to why the guard's brigade, charged with safe guarding Abuja, stood down that night even though the DSS had in a memo notified all sister agencies earlier that an attack was imminent.

This is the legacy of the APC.

Honestly, it baffles me. He seems to be well educated but when he starts certain actions it beats imagination as to whether this man knows what he is doing.

Hell rufai lies without looking back. That's why I don't care whatever he says about people. High level hypocrisy, double mouth and high level hatred are the traits of El Rufai. I was expecting someone to say this. My question is. If the Federal government stops paying them, won't they go back to their criminal ways of killing, kidnapping, robbery with the professing their own ideology well known?

What has happened to the many armed forces? Offering to pay "bandits", do bandits and kidnappers now have to form an association so the money goes through an organised structure? An idiot understands that's not how a serious and a government that's not involved with the "bandits" will handle things.
In this meeting who will be the representatives of the "bandits"? What will this fund be called in the state or federal budget? 'Bandit appeasement funds"? What a shame! All of these politicians are just enjoying public funds and not one cares for the common Nigerian, all these people need to be forced out of governance, a total overhaul of these corrupt, mindless and unconscientous self serving evil doers, this is what Nigeria needs.
The current structure cannot and will not birth a better Nigeria, a total restructuring into a proper nation, a nation where any man can afford to procure a party's ticket to contest any public office, where judges are actually honourable, where crimes have appropriate swift consequences and any form of corruption comes along with the death penalty.
For this to happen, Nigerians must demand it, and this will not be through the "elections" conducted by the state controlled INEC, it must be taken with a fight, a fight taken to the abodes of these handful suffering many millions, this is why I do not support any political party or persons, all of them are a product of the corrupt system, should there be a change of leadership, it'll be a repeat of old complaints and known afflictions, none of these people can save Nigeria.
