The recent jailing of Simon Ekpa in a Western jurisdiction has significant implications for our polity. This development warrants a critical examination of our judicial system and the role of politicians and community leaders in promoting justice and accountability. Timely Justice: A Lesson for Nigeria The swift judgment in Ekpa's case highlights the importance of timely justice. In contrast, Nigeria's judicial system often faces criticism for delayed judgments, as seen in the case of Nnamdi Kanu, which took years to conclude despite abundant evidence. Delayed justice can have far-reaching consequences, including the perpetuation of violence and impunity. It is essential to address the systemic issues that lead to such delays and ensure that justice is served promptly. Beyond Ethnic Sentiments: Condemning Crimes The judgment also exposes the hypocrisy of some politicians and community leaders who attempt to rationalize crimes based on ethnic affiliations. Individuals like Hope Uzodinma, Enyinnaya Abaribe, Peter Obi, and Ohaneze Ndigbo have used duplicitous words to justify or downplay Ekpa's actions. It is crucial for leaders to rise above parochial interests and condemn crimes unequivocally. Pampering criminals because of their ethnic background undermines the rule of law and perpetuates a culture of impunity. Global Cooperation: Tackling Terror Financing The international community has a critical role to play in combating terrorism. While we readily condemn murderers and accomplices, we often fail to track and prosecute sponsors of terrorism. Nigerian diaspora and local communities actively financing these groups must be held accountable. Governments globally must make concerted efforts to deal with financiers and sympathizers of terrorism, utilizing existing laws against terror financing NOT just the arrow heads. Conclusion Justice is a precursor to peace. As we reflect on the implications of Simon Ekpa's judgment, it is essential to elevate the conversation on governance and justice above ethnic sentiments. By promoting timely justice, condemning crimes unequivocally, and tackling terror financing, we can work towards a more just and peaceful society. It is time for leaders to prioritize justice and accountability over parochial interests. |

Because judgement is not passed quickly wickedness persists. Because Nigerian legal system is as slow as a snail, a criminal and terrorist Nnamdi Kalu now calls himself a prisoner of conscience. Someone that deserves nothing less than a life sentence! |

Immatex:It is delibrate. Nothing frustrates criminals than mental torture. |
| Re: The Implications Of Simon Ekpa's Judgment: A Call To Action by Immatex(m): 4:15pm On Sep 01, 2025 |
Softmirror:Criminals have rights, mental torture is against such rights and can make less of the crime of suspects. Plus suspects can sue their torturers and in turn get awarded lots of damages for time spent prosecuting them. So Nigeria is non-the-wiser torturing criminals instead of prosecuting them! |

Immatex:Which rights does a criminal have?! Do you know that Obama bin Laden was captured unarmed?! Why was he killed and wasn't taken alive to face the law since he has rights. This is by United States of America that preaches the gospel of human rights. |

Softmirror:Everyone has a right including criminals, having right means you'll have to a lawyer and a fair hearing in due time under the law of the land, if you are found guilty then you face the penalty. In MNK matters Nigeria government has trampled upon his right, they kidnapped him and also held him hostage all these while. They could have tried him and if he's guilty then sentence him to whatever the penalty is just as the Finnish just did to Ekpa. |

phorget:What it simply means is that you have no full knowledge the American Democracy we are emulating. If you do, you will have come across Detainees in Guantanamo who are held without charges or fair trials, depriving them of their basic human rights. These detainees were subjected to torture or other ill-treatment and have been detained, in some cases, for over 20 years. 1Alex: |

Buccalcavity2:So why is the case so hard for your Nigeria government to conclude for more than four years now since he's guilty? But the criminal in Finland arrested yesterday have been concluded in Finland court. |
| Re: The Implications Of Simon Ekpa's Judgment: A Call To Action by seunmsg(m): 3:30am On Sep 02, 2025 |
It is easier for a Finland court to quickly try and pass judgement in cases like this because the country is not affected by the political implications. There is no politician like Peter Obi, Abaribe, Ezekwesili etc trying to blackmail the government and the judiciary with ethnic sentiments. |
| Re: The Implications Of Simon Ekpa's Judgment: A Call To Action by 1Alex: 6:00am On Sep 02, 2025 |
Softmirror:A criminal has rights, even after committing a crime. The right to a fair trial. The right to legal representation. The right to be protected from torture or cruel treatment. The right to appeal a conviction. The right to humane treatment in prison. Some rights are limited, such as freedom of movement or voting, depending on the crime and the country’s laws. But basic human rights remain. |
