People gather at Tiananmen Square in Beijing on September 3, 2025, for a military parade marking the 80th anniversary of Japan's defeat in World War II

Xi Jinping oversaw a huge display of China’s military power on Wednesday before some of the world’s most powerful authoritarian leaders, rallying them behind his vision for a new world order as US President Donald Trump wages a global trade war and shakes up American alliances.

Russia’s Vladimir Putin and North Korea’s Kim Jong Un flanked Xi at the start of the parade as the trio stood together publicly for the first time in a historic moment.

The parade unveiled hundreds of advanced weapons and featured over 10,000 troops, showcasing China’s growing military power under Xi’s push to modernize the world’s largest standing army.

Here are some of the defining images of the day.

Alongside a vast military parade marking 80 years since the country's victory over Japan in World War Two, the meeting formed part of a day of statements for Chinese President Xi Jinping.

All but two Western leaders chose not to attend the parade, while 26 heads of state joined. Xi inspected the waiting ranks of thousands of troops from the roof of his state vehicle, before warning the world must "never return to the law of the jungle, where the strong prey on the weak" in a speech.

This is absolutely wrong. China was defeated and colonized by the japs during the WW11. The celebration was just a remembrance for her resistance to the Japanese occupation during the war which after it ended (with the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki by the Americans) led Mao Zedong to declare the PRC, unlike the Russians who celebrate their Vday celebration to commemorate the victory over the Nazis. (the fought from Moscow to Berlin) to earn their celebration.

The Chinese celebration is more of a memorial, than an actual victory because without the Americans, China was humiliated by Japan throughout the war.

Impressive😍🤩. Whether communism or democracy, at the end of the day what matters to the common man is security of lives and properties, being able to afford basic human amenities, health care services, good & affordable transportation.

Kudos to Xi Jipin and China on the 80 anniversary.

Stop capping. America only joined the war against Imperial Japan in 1941. China has been fighting Imperial Japan since 1931. Even after US nuked Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the Japanese didn't surrender until the Soviet invaded Manchuria.

There's a high chance that if Japan didn't attack Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941, America could have continued conducting trade with both Nazi Germany & Imperial Japan including selling oil and military equipments.

I don't know your background on world history or books you have read about WW11, so I won't waste my time saying much because you just sent some screenshots from twitters to drive your point, which to me proves that there's no need to open a discourse on this topic with you. Thank you.

Obviously, you don't even know why they call them "Imperial Japan" The Japanese were running havoc across the Pacific even before Hitler annexed Austria and invaded Poland... Just like Trump, you think everything started in 1941.

China that was defeated and occupied by the Japanese during the WWII is celebrating victory? Which victory?

The atomic bomb dropped by US had already weakened Japan and the Japanese surrendered, withdrew their forces from China, Korea, Vietnam, Philippines and other part of South East Asia

It is like France celebrating victory over Nazi Germany, when France was under full occupation of the Nazi Germany from 1941 to 1945

It was not until the allied forces, led by US liberated France in 1945 that the French started fighting again when Germany was already weakened

China unveiled new laser weapons and more advanced nuclear missiles that no one had ever seen. That's commendable. China played the long game and now the whole world depends on the Chinese manufacturing chain for basic suppliers.

Logistics wins wars and China is seriously ramping up on that front. They are currently building the largest dam in human history to provide 60GW of electricity or 300 billion kilowatt hours, enough to power 300 million homes. This 167 billion dollar project is so huge that it is projected to slow down the rotation of the earth by fractions of a second.

Having so much electricity available means China can ramp up industrialisation even more than they already have. They can outproduce and outpace any one as far as production is concerned.

This is what a society led by a visionary leader does.

Yes I love the Chinese but America remain a great nation that doesn't deserve a chauvinistic leader like Donald Trump angry

Japan dealt with China. It was the US that came to China's aid. People have forgotten their history.

The so-called Rise of China will be it's End.

The United States will still rule the world for another 100 years to come.

The US will never fall rather there will be super power fragmentation in each continent. This will reduce it's influence but not to stop it as China, Russia, Iran and all other axis of evil seek presently.

All this show of force is nothing to the Americans. If they perceive that you are a threat, they have a way of crumbling you economically.

The USSR is dead, yet the USA is still standing. The Warsaw Pact is dead, yet NATO is still standing.

...but honestly, fear the Chinese. I doubt the US would be able to subdue these people.
