Why Is No One Talking About Daniel Bwalyas Ethnic Group? by owobokiri(op): 7:16pm On Sep 03, 2025
If you follow the narratives from the Nigerian press houses headquartered in Lagos and its environs, the impression you will get is that the first coup plot in Nigeria, was the January 15th "Five Majors" coup. That coup involved a sizeable number of Eastern military officers and their Midwestern igbo colleagues.

But the truth of the matter is that the FIRST COUP that was reported in Nigeria, for which a thorough investigation was carried out, a trial held, and conviction obtained, was the Awolowo coup of 1963. Following a serious deluge of evidence, Awolowo was arrested, tried in a well constituted court headed by a fellow Yoruba, and jailed accordingly for TREASON.
This was why he was in Calabar prisons on the day of the January 15th coup.

So why is it that this convicted coup plotter is seldom mentioned as a coupist, while the whole Southwest media have gone on rampage repackaging him as "The Best President Nigeria Never had"? (whatever that non-sense means). Again, why is it that most Nigerians DON'T know the ethnic origin of Colonel Buka Suka Dimka of the 1976 coup? Afterall, he too organised a very serious coup, eliminated a sitting Head Of State in broad day light, and personally announced a change of government? Put succinctly; why is it that most Nigerians know the ethnic origins of Major Kaduna Nzeogwu and Ifeajuna, but struggle to remember the home states of say Dimka and Gideon Orkar?

If you are able to answer those troubling posers above, you will understand that the whole generational noise by the Southwest press to amplify the roles of Nzeogwu and other Igbo officers in the January 15th 1966 coup, are nothing but a chain of deliberate mackavelian political tactics, being used to smear a particular section of the country, in order to hyjack all government goodies that should go around in the southern part of Nigeria for the Southwest alone.

Igbos have been pilloried, lampooned and lambasted nonstop for years now because according to some APC members, the igbos declared Lagos "a no mans land". Igbos have been accused of trying to capture other peoples territories for saying so. A promise of a "solid response" (very laughable) have been flying around. Yet, just few hours ago, the loquacious Daniel Bwalya representing the Tinubu presidency, came out on national TV and declared Lagos as a "No Mand Land"! He hasn't retracted the "declaration, yet every one is quiet in Lagos. No one is accusing him of trying to hyjack Lagos from his "hosts,accomodators/benefactors"! What am I missing?

No one has attacked his ethnic group. We don't even know whether he is a Hutu or a diminutive Tutsi! If his ethnic group in Borno state speaks Arabic or Swahili, we don't know! Rather his utterances are RIGHTLY being viewed as his personal beliefs and not necessarily a product of ethnic group think. So why is this sort of luxury not extended to the igbos on the "Lagos is a No Mans Land" issue or the January15thcoup??

I mean, if we juxtapose the series of events that led to the rehabilitation of the narratives surrounding the "Awolowo Coup" with the way the motives behind the "Nzeogwu Coup" was intentionally misrepresented by the overzealous western Nigeria media, what does it show? If Bwalya can be excused for saying that Lagos is a No Mans Land, but threats are flying around because an unknown igbo man said the same thing, what does that mean?

The answer is simple: it all means that everything boils down to ethnic disdain and resentment of a group, their achievements, their culture, the economic strides and their waybof life, ..
All other reasons being promoted here and there in the South west, are nothing but convenient excuses employed by the diabolically minded to justify a village kiriji attempt at ethnic clean-si-ing..

They will fail..

Those first coup didn't exclude their kinsmen from those to attack.

The selected people coup is what brought to Nigeria to where it is today. Unfortunately, the culprits are trying to form victims

Burka Suka Dimka is not a Fulani/Hausa as was Murtala Muhammad who was eliminated in that coup..
Dimka was Berom from present day Platue state..

Can you mention the Berom officers and politicians eliminated by Dimka on that coup day?
Remember you normally call the January 15th coup an "igbo coup".., you have never even called it Eastern Nigeria coup..

I am waiting for the names...

Berom officers? Are we talking about state or region?

The first coup was a national coup which all the regions had the taste. But the other coup was about regional selective attacking

In essence, Dimka an officer from the middle belt was selectively attacking Murtala, an officer from the far north?
Yeah?
