That's less than 10k pounds.

If you're focused in abroad you will succeed. Most people I know abroad do remote jobs.

Some do upto 3 remote jobs and make almost 4k pounds monthly.

If you have never handled money before you may think 20m is a lot of money.

All that is required is a good travel strategy. It may not be easy at the start but eventually you will settle in.

Inflation is about 22%.

Risk free investment is about 15-18%.

Your return is still eroded by Inflation and economic uncertainty.

If you can take the bold step and work through the system good for you.

Don't let people's experiences determine your long-term objective.

If a stable economy is bad as they say how much more an unstable one?

Already has a PHD so study route is out of it. Uk is a no go for now. For Canada check if you meet the permanent residency requirements its not by money

A lot has happened since two years ago till today, Since 2 years ago:

*Naira is so much devalued and spending power eroded.

*Nigeria Inflation numbers has been rebased from 2009-2014

*Nigeria GDP has been rebased

*Due to Inflation, Travel expenses 2 years ago has to be considered, hence 20 million of today compared to 2 years ago now has a purchasing power of 15 million.

*Your cousin's present condition/economic reality is the UK is a text book example for this op not to consider this her japa dream.

I digress that 20M still isn't small money by any standard for a Nigerian living in Nigeria, so while I discourage her from emigrating, I will all also suggest she invest that 20M into a safe investment like in Nigeria money market NOT land banking, NOT stocks or Equities but only low yield money market investments.

This will guarantee her financial security, cushion against inflation and steady financial growth, she can worry about physical/environmental security by living in a safe area in Nigeria. Get solar to enjoy regular power. Advance more in her present job.

The grass is not always greener at the other side. But even if it does; time and age will be against her because she has practically lived half of her life here in Nigeria acquiring degrees only for her to pack her bags and go restart life again on another man's land just to earn the same 20 million in another 10 years?

She has to look around to find an I opportunities in the market.

1) Find out about being a distributor for fast moving consumer products. E.g cement.
2) agriculture. There are so many things one can do here.
3) if you have a talent or a hobby you are good at see if it is Marketable and in demand.
4) listen when people complain about a product or a service and see how you can solve the problem at scale. Often they are not the only ones having the same problem. People pay for products or solutions to problems.

Keep your eyes open, ask questions as you do about your day to day. Where do you get this products from, is this business profitable, what are the challenges you gave etc.

What business should she start

She has to look around to find an I opportunities in the market.

1) Find out about being a wholesale distributor for fast moving consumer products. E.g cement. My mom was a senior government worker in the late 80s. She got a distributorship license for Guiness at the time. She didn’t have a shop, you wouldn’t know she was a distributor. She had a Ghanian who handled the logistics for her while she did her day job. She was making more than her salary every month and she was on the highest salary GL 16. At the time a very comfortable salary. If I didn’t know of the Ghanaian who worked for her and see her exercise book where she wrote all the figures and profits, even I wouldn’t know my Mom was a distributor for Guinness. In those days we don’t ask questions because the only answer we get was have you finished your homework.
2) agriculture. There are so many things one can do here.
3) if you have a talent or a hobby you are good at see if it is Marketable and in demand.
4) listen when people complain about a product or a service and see how you can solve the problem and I if it is scalable. Often they are not the only ones having the same problem. People pay for products or solutions to problems.
4) key to growth is scalability. Something you can start with 1 and turn into 10, 100, 1000
5) the problem with many educated people is they think certain businesses are beneath them. Remmember Feminotedola started by distributing diesel himself in a pickup!

Keep your eyes open, ask questions as you do about your day to day. Where do you get this products from, is this business profitable, what are the challenges you gave etc.

I once met one of these delivery couriers at a supermarket and I asked him about the business. He was clearly educated. I was surprised he had no idea about his business. He actually had no idea how much his employer charged the customer he was shopping for. His own was just to collect and deliver…..a graduate! A smart person would want to know everything about the business, how much the margins are, the challenges, how the business is run etc so if he has the opportunity or a chance meeting with someone with capital he can put his knowledge to use. These are the people that think japa is the solution to their lives. Yet they live surrounded by opportunity but they are not curious.

These are the people that japa and find out actually life was better in Nigeria.

People always look and search for what is not lost, you already have greens now make it a pasture, with 20 million here in Nigeria..if you're serious any business you venture you can make 2 -3 million monthly.. visit African countries that are doing well..in Kenya you can get us and Canada easily

However, you need to learn the business for at least 3 months to understand it

PhD in Chemical Engineering..why not apply, get a job and then relocate...look for jobs in the US or any country or lecturer work. Don't relocate without getting employment...to anywhere. You may just regret it. If you have a great job in Nigeria...stay and go on vacation and buy houses abroad
