Hmmm.... Wike is the correct man to tackle the touts. It's sad that these touts are allowed to grow in number and get out of control.

The man should have just stopped and given them something the moment they grabbed his steering wheel. I'm not supporting what the touts did to him. I'm seriously against them. But when you're in a lawlessness country like Nigeria where touts would be threatening people's lives and police would be at the next junction extorting from those who survived the touts, you'd have to apply wisdom.

He was in the car with his wife and kid(s) how much was the money they were demanding for that he had to gamble with his family?

I remember one time I dropped a friend off at Anthony under bridge, he wanted to climb the hill to access the express so I moved in to drop him off. As he came down and left, one rugged tout started running towards me, I wanted to zoom off then I noticed he carried a very big stone, I just stopped and gave him N500 yes you heard me right. Five hundred naira which he collected and walked away. Imagine if I had stubbornly tried to zoom off and he had shattered my windshield, it would have cost me up to 200k to replace it. But I applied wisdom and paid just 500 and left peacefully.

We should learn how to apply wisdom. Everything shouldn't be about aggression cos these touts have nothing to lose. I've seen them pull down a conductor from a moving bus. They're ready to fight and die. So dragging with them isn't a wise option.

May their souls rest in peace.
touts have nothing lose. how then did one of them lose his life?

Ameachi flushed touts out if of rivers but wike brought them back with full govt backing. They do exactly the same thing here in phc. It's a wike thing my brother. Fubara removed them after they killed a pregnant woman while dragging steering with a driver. But them don return with full force under Wike/Ibas

Agberos has now been transferred to Abuja
Thanks to Mr President cool
In fairness to Tinubu agberos have always been in Abuja as far back as 2007 as I can remember.
You can say they are increased and emboldened now.

This touts collected #33, 500 from me September last Year for just stopping at Berger because I stopped to drop a family friend I gave ride to office.
Wike and VIO need to do something on the activities of touts in Abuja.

Nigerians are far too docile. In most other countries, things like this would never happen without serious consequences.
I’ve personally dealt with those touts and made sure they learned their lesson.

The moment they sense you’re calm, they’ll intimidate and extort you but when you show them madness plus craze, they won’t even dare step into your vehicle.

Shebi Nyesom Wike is the FCT Minister.
That's his stock-in-trade!

Ask how it was during his tenure as Governor in Rivers State, compare to how the situation was when Rotimi Amaechi was Governor!

Wike deliberately empowers youth to be tours and they make direct returns to him!
That man is the most selfish politician Nigeria has ever been unfortunate to produce!

OCHKESTINE:
You guys won't believe Agberos now order bolt ride to areas where Cars are not allowed to park, only to pretend to be passenger, immediately they enter you bolt ride, they wrestle the steering and gear with you.

Bolt driver newbies fall for that Wuse market bolt order prank.

Bolt drivers should ensure to pick and drop their passengers only inside the market NOT at the exit not entrance.

And if you are caught, the fine is 25k,
To make it easier for the driver, go to the touts office just after the Wuse market bridge and register to pick and drop.

And if u want to hustle along passengers even on weekends, make sure u always buy the "National" ticket, but the days of the week requires you to get 3 tickets for ₦200 each - ₦600.
they got me 2 yrs ago, right in front of Wuse market... It was suppose to be my last trip for d day..... I gave them all I made that day 15k...although d guys I went to pick gavee 10k,even though d trip was not up to 5k....d next time they entered my vehicle, still around that Wuse, I wanted to drop some passengers who happened to be foreigners.... D woman thought she was about to be kidnapped.... Na dat day I go their office go collect their useless papers..... With d way I abused them dat day, I'm sure they'll go back home to have a rethink about their life.... Na one of d reasons I stopped bolt bdat

Source: https://leadership.ng/touts-chase-family-of-3-to-death-in-abuja/[/quote]I have read comments and I want to say everyone is right in his or her own terms. However, I don’t think touts in Abuja is a recent something… They have been there since the days of OBJ. Abuja residents can testify.
And these touts are not 500 naira touts. The reason that man drove off is that they’d end up milking him. They might collect least from 10k. But the amount can range upto 50k.
These touts get mouth pass police. In fact them go drag with police sef.
They would seize that car, or damage that car.
The government needs to do something serious about it. They have to.
Bolt, Uber drivers are victims of these guys.
So for those who think it’s 500 naira issue. It’s not. For those who think it’s a recent development, it’s not. It’s the government inaction over the years that has emboldened these criminals roaming the streets of the Federal capital…
The remaining two in the hospital, make we leave them to God.

The way those guys operate in Lagos is different from Abuja; in Lagos, private cars can pick up passengers on their way to work and pay them 500 or 1,000 naira, whereas in Abuja, they'll require registration documents and ID cards from their union, which can cost almost 30,000 or more. I almost had a run-in with one of them a few years ago.

Rest in peace to the dead. This issue of Agberos' need to be checked especially in Ibadan the capital city of Oyo State. They have turn Owo mi da to a profession. Very pathetic

These are likely not pick and drop agbero. They are those that look into your car to see if you are carrying any thing big then they arrest you saying you are using your private car for commercial purpose. And then impose a hefty fine on you. They stand at strategic points like Arab traffic light, Area 1 etc.

Exactly. I can understand what most are saying here but this is a subset of the issue
This is a case of a private individual carrying items in a personal vehicle.

I don't understand how it is government's business (because these touts or council agents or whatever act as if enforcing some law) how I carry my property if I am not violating vehicular safety laws.

You see them at road junctions and intersections peeping into cars to see if you have anything they consider of commercial value, why?.

Where in the sane world can I not buy a refrigerator and take it home in my truck or a tv in my backseat. Why should I pay anyone for that or get a so called commercial transport license for that.

This is the nonsense happening in Abuja today. If it cannot fit in your closed boot you are done for. And if it is heavy to weigh your car down they will still stop you.

What do you mean by he should have applied wisdom. Do you know how it feels when you’re been attacked for committing no offense. I pray you do not fall victim of those agbero boys. Maybe by then you will understand why the man needed to fight by all means to defend his right. Is just so sad that he had to die trying to defend his right in a lawless country like Nigeria. Have you fallen victim to these particular set of guys before? Ask anyone that drives IN ABUJA for first hand experience because this is not the regular ₦500 matter. They will make you cry and you might end up paying up to ₦50K if you are so unlucky because these ones are not there to collect ₦500, their sole mission is to drag you to their CHAIRMAN OFFICE and make you pay for TAXI REGISTRATION when you are not a cabbie so that they can get settled by their oga.

are they on uniform or identifiable? No. They just act like hyenas and jump in from your window to attack. While one is trying to grab your keys, the other are trying to steal your phones and open your door from the other side in a flash. If you drive a car, you will understand that the shock and impulse that will kick in and you will not blame that man.

₦500? Just ask other people sha.
God bless you for this. Most of this people saying the man should have surrendered and pay 500 dont knw how this miscreants operate in Abuja. You have just spoken my mind and explained exactly their modus operandi .

Abuja is filled with too much miscreants from the north.

All these useless, lazy agberos and touts, how can someone pay to carry load in his own car, after registration the car, paying taxes to the government, registration of cars mean all taxes have been paid.

These lazy youths are also in Lagos, they should be outlawed.

There is absolutely nothing to say. These so called AMAC boys are stationed at every junction and intersection to ensure every citizen pays for transporting goods, period.

They started out many years ago checking to ensure commercially registered vehicles were duly licensed by them including things like mobile adverts, etc

Today they have extended their mandates to profile certain models of vehicles which they deem commercial and have even made it a law that private vehicles cannot transport articles of any kind.

So if I go to borrow my friends lawnmower on the other side of town to groom my garden I am breaking some financial law by transporting it in my car or truck.

That is what local government administration in the Federal Capital has been reduced to. The very face of grassroots governance.
