The Man –His Excellency Malam Nasir Ahmed El-Rufai, CON

Malam Nasir Ahmed El-Rufai is a distinguished Nigerian technocrat, astute politician, and accomplished public servant whose life reflects brilliance, courage, and an unyielding commitment to transformational leadership.

A product of the famous Barewa College, Zaria, where he excelled academically, Malam graduated with First-Class Honours in Quantity Surveying from the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria.

He went on to earn an MBA and other professional and academic qualifications from renowned institutions both in Nigeria and abroad.

Malam began his career as a Chartered Quantity Surveyor, establishing El-Rufai & Partners, a thriving practice, before fate drew him into the public sector, making him, by his own account, an “accidental politician.” His entrepreneurial background gave him a strong grasp of economics, governance, and business development.

As Director-General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE), he championed strategic reforms and oversaw the successful privatisation of several government-owned corporations. His tenure was marked by transparency, efficiency, and a focus on driving Nigeria’s economic competitiveness.

From 2003 to 2007, as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), he implemented bold reforms that transformed the city’s governance and infrastructure. He pioneered the Abuja Geographic Information System (AGIS) to modernise land administration and founded the Abuja Enterprise Agency (AEA) to support micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the FCT — a step that expanded economic opportunities for thousands of competent Nigerians.

Malam also chaired the APC National Committee on Restructuring and Devolution of Power, reflecting his commitment to deepening Nigeria’s federalism and strengthening its democratic structures.

In 2015, he became the Executive Governor of Kaduna State, serving until 2023. His leadership was defined by decisive reforms in governance, education, healthcare, infrastructure, and security. Often taking bold, sometimes controversial steps, he turned Kaduna into a modern, investment-friendly state , a transformation whose benefits will endure for generations.

Notable Achievements:

Founded the Abuja Enterprise Agency to promote MSME growth in the FCT.

Pioneered the Abuja Geographic Information System (AGIS) for modern land administration.

Spearheaded strategic privatisations as Director-General of the BPE.

Leave the Igbos out for a second, would you have also thought that some Yorubas will turn around to vilify Elrufai from day one after winning the presidency? Remove the log of wood from your eye first. No permanent friend or foe in politics but treachery is still treachery no matter who perpetrates it.
