I remember visiting this place everyday for breakfast while working in iyalla street. It's been 2 months I left the place. It was still in good shape the last time I was there, seems they have increased their rent, forcing many businesses to close and relocate. The night life at Rhapsody from Friday through till Monday is still the same. Especially the hookers.

Same with jara mall, the truth is they can't compete.
They are hoping on pass glory when the likes of Bokku, jendol, just rite have taken over.

LOL. Una and politics sha. I think the problem is actually more than politics. Shoprite was busy shutting down in every country but Amusan decided to try his luck by acquiring the Nigeria franchise. Guess he’s just getting to know why they were shutting down in the first place everywhere except SA. I can bet it’s competition if you ask me.
Besides, competition is tougher these days .
Gone are the days the only super store most states have is a ShopRite store , now many superstores dey Every state.

The Nigerian man that bought it lack business sense ...instead of him to push ShopRite to the inner urban areas he left it in Big malls not forgetting Buhari and Tinubu government made things worst ...people purchasing power drop...he should have made ShopRite to be in every areas not only in Big malls

Until Boku took over ....Boku alone have dominated every local government at least having about six stores across every LGA ....my area alone Boku has like seven stores ...here in Lag

But I still respect ShopRite because there are things I cant get from Boku and the rest smaller supermarket but I can get them in ShopRite ...Boku has limited stock of items ...one store I respect is Spar ...spar get standard till now and loaded .....Quality is good everywhere ....they are ....located

The government of Buhari initiated the erosion of the middle class. Then the icing was Tinubu policies exacerbated the situation. Middle class is gone.

The upper class don't go to such place much. Any economy that has up to 70% of the middle class shows a booming economy.
God bless you.

You have said it all.

Nigerian people's purchasing power is dying everyday. Nigerians now buy mostly what they need to survive like basic food, etc, and those that use to patronize ShopRite and other big shopping malls now go back to traditional markets due to harsh economy.

Nigeria's Middleclass population that made ShopRite and other big shopping malls and outlets to boom are almost gone; most lost their jobs, relocated to remote areas, some migrated abroad, many got kidnapped, so Nigeria currently have very insignificant Middleclass population all thanks to Bola Tinubu's thoughtless and insensitive economic policies that created more poor people than rich people in Nigeria.

So tell me how is not politics?

That's why one of the best business to do today is logistics
Many businesses need delivery.

Saw a video where a lady was advising Lekki ladies to stop renting shops for millions cos most businesses have moved online, rent a shop if it's absolutely necessary For your business.

They are going through Tinubulation. Even the online keyboard warriors collecting 30k per month to support disaster can't even afford to go there. Everyone is collecting technical Knockout from the one who built Lagos.

And also most Pharmacies now have a supermarket and bakery taking away some of the people that goes to ShopRite.

The economic hardship and the middle-class Japa affected all malls, but that was not the fatal blow that killed Shoprite. The Shoprite supply chain was not as flexible as the Nigerian-owned smaller malls. The smaller malls receive supplies from the small importers. They directly go to Lagos Island to buy and retail. Hence, they can sell at more pocket-friendly prices.
In addition, Shoprite management was not quick to respond to the antics of Nigerian workers. They lost much to in-house fraud. These are the reasons the SA guys exited Nigeria. The Nigerian owners have struggled to stabilise the business.

Not everything is about government policies. Our people actually kill businesses faster than government policies. Every business person in Nigeria will attest to this.

Our people kill businesses and cry that there is no employment.

Rumor has it on Twitter that some top Ogas squandered more than 100million naira and then Japa. So they couldn't pay their vendors. Some Nigerians are criminals.

Due to the nature of my business, I can confirm at least 50 upper middle class families with huge purchasing power I did business with that left Port Harcourt alone. The ones in Lagos is countless.
ShopRite is an upper middle class business. They left and there's no one to buy. The iPhone girls and broke boys only go there to snap pictures and look for clients to hook up with.
Ordinarily its convenient to think shoprite is going down becos of economic hardship/ eroded purchasin power .... Nah

The problem shoprite had is " Positioning" and "failure to evolve" what do i mean

Positioning : shoprite are only situated in highbrow areas and non residential areas But gone are those days people can over look transport cost and stress to reach shoprite to buy bread when Bokku, jendol, justrite and various mini mall are spring up all around areas/neighborhood

The question is why do i have to leave abule egba n go to ikeja mall, when justrite and jendol are nearby and its like that for almost everybody now .... bokku is even crazy obasa just dey mount everywhere

No doubts, Competition is what hit shoprite, If they were strategic they would have evolve into smaller super markets across residential areas tew.

peak milk saw it was going down dey had to evolve into cube milk like hollandia 🤣 most companies now do smaller pack of there product just to survive competitions ...

We've outgrown going to shoprite to take pictures abi folake4u 🤣

When the country was actually doing great. Everything i used was jumia from washing machine to even a hard disk.

Shoprite thrives on selling various kinds of goods and products at the cheapest or best value for money rates but with the new management and the toxic economy no company can restock all their store unless they are just retailing the products for the manufacturers.

The business climate is very bad for local based businesses who deal on imported goods.
