I am a staunch supporter of President Tinubu and will vote him in 2027.Sometimes I don't know whether govts don't think about the poor masses at all. The removal of fuel Subsidy has already put financial strain on the poor masses. Why again does the FG have to increase their pain by making them buy petrol and diesel at a higher price by January 2026? I have read the argument that they want to wean Nigerians off fossil fuels to cleaner energy and the argument that the tax has been in Nigeria before because it was introduced by Obasanjo blah blah blah. No matter the excuse or reason, this is not the right time to reintroduce this tax. Yes,we don't pay tax in Nigeria as much as other nations even in Africa or whatever anybody wants to say. This, definitely is not the right time to put any financial burden on the poor masses. What are the unseen benefits different from what I already stated? If there are no tangible benefits other than more revenue, tax should be suspended or better still, expunged from the tax bills by NASS and FG fast. |

You have no moral justification to complain about the tax! You are a staunch supporter and you also believe the tax burden on Nigerians is too small, so why are you then complaining? |

Cosbyrich:Beyond the sensationalization, did you take your time to do any research of the 5% surcharge? Is it a new law in the country? The tax in question was introduced under the FERMA Act that was passed into law in 2007 during the PDP administration. There was a lot of outcry when Obasanjo wanted to implement the law so implementation was stepped down since then. However, it remains a part of our law. So last year, the Tax reform committee consolidated a lot of these laws into the new tax law for better efficiency and effectiveness in the tax collection and administration system. So many of the old taxes were simply kept in the new law without any changes. However , this particular 5% has no implementation date. So, the information going around that the implementation date is first of January, 2026 is false. The law is still docile as it was in the old FERMA Act. Implementation will only commence when the Finance Minister issue an implementation order and that has not been done. As you can see, there is no point calling for the removal of a law that has been docile for over 15 years. It will not be implemented next year or anytime soon. |

seunmsg:Then FG should quickly refute the allegation that it will start being collected in 2026. Govt spokespersons are not doing enough and their social media people are not also doing enough educating the masses. This allegation is all over the place. They should try to quell it. |

Zionmdde:Yes,I support him amongst the other candidates especially from the South because they move the nation forward whenever they are there. We are all feeling the transition pain but it is getting milder and things will be better very, very soon. God will use President Tinubu to put Nigeria and Nigerians on the prosperity path. No gain without pain. |

seunmsg:What you failed to mention was that fuel was less than 60 naira and subsidised when the 5% levy was proposed by Obasanjo, yet it wasn't implemented due to consideration for the populace. Tinubu has removed subsidy completely but the new tax law, instead of writing off the now redundant 5% levy, leaves it at the discretion of the Finance Minister to determine when it will take effect. That's inconsiderate and provoking. |

AMINDA:Other than just jumping onto my mention to make noise, you’ve said nothing sensible as usual. The law as made by Obasanjo is still the same law. Nothing was added to it. It was simply harmonized into the new tax law. It’s a dormant law that is still dormant. So, why the cry when no order has been issued for its implementation? |

Cosbyrich:The FG spokespersons can’t do it alone. Taiwo Oyedele who chaired the tax reform committee has already issued a statement including a video to debunk the lie. It is now left for the rest of us to keep educating those who have been misinformed by the mischievous opposition elements on the true position of things. |

seunmsg:You can only fool your ilk. If the government has no plans to implement the law, it would be taken out entirely like they claim to have done with so many other redundant taxes. Rather they simply retained it and made implementation period to be determined by the finance minister. The law would have been completely scrapped if Tinubu had no intention to activate it in the future. The removal of subsidy already makes the law redundant. Why still retain it? It is still a standalone tax in the new tax law, nothing like harmonised. |

seunmsg:He made a lot of points there Obasanjo proposed the tax when there was subsidy and fuel cheaper yet considered the outcry of the populace Tinubu has now cunniily inserted it into the new tax law and left it at the discretion of the finance Minister who is his appointee instead of expunging it completely |
