Lagos Didn't Develop Lagos by OredoPikin(op): 9:47pm On Sep 05, 2025
Lagos was largely developed using funds from the Niger Delta's oil wealth. The majority of Nigeria's oil reserves are found in the Niger Delta region, and the revenue generated from oil sales has been used to fund numerous infrastructure projects in Lagos.

A prime example is the Third Mainland Bridge, one of Lagos' most iconic landmarks. Not a single dime was contributed by the Lagos State government towards its construction. Instead, it was funded entirely by the federal government, using revenue generated from oil sales.

It's only fair that Lagos, having benefited immensely from the oil wealth of the Niger Delta, starts contributing its fair share to the federal government. This would be a step towards repaying the dividend of the heavy investment made in the state using funds from the Niger Delta and from all Nigerians.

It's time for Lagos to recognize the role that Niger Delta oil money has played in its development and to start giving back even more to the federal government.

Without Niger- delta oil there would be no former FCT Lagos and current FCT Abuja and that is why both capitals belong to the whole Nigerians and never to any tribe so if you are having secessionists thoughts that it belongs to your tribe, like same Ipob you criticize everyday then you are either in a dreamland or at best hypocritical about your talk of unity or one Nigeria

And what's stopping the Niger Delta from using their money to develop their region.

Bayelsa state with 3 million population, not a big land mass, what have they been doing with their monthly hotel returns?
