Who Knows About This Transmission Oil? by Grupo(op): 7:29pm On Aug 28, 2025
Hello guys,

So the guys at My parts NG are trying to sell me this transmission oil. As an equivalent of the Toyota WS oil. And it's even almost double the price of the normal Toyota WS (the one in a metal can) that I know.

I want to know if anyone has used this transmission oil before. And if I can use it.

See attached Pic.

If your Toyota has a 2GR engine no try am oh.
Just get the original Toyota transmission oil.
In short if you car is 2011 upwards no try am.
An original Toyota transmission oil is cheaper than a new gearbox

My car is a 2013 Toyota Corolla.

Talking about price, this oil here is selling for 144k according to myparts NG.

While the original normal Toyota WS is selling for 90k.

So I'm thinking if this one I'm showing here is better than the other WS.

Let me get more opinions from others Sha.

I think it's better to stick with the one you've been using before..... The Toyota WS

What u should use for ur corrolla is CVT don't try to use WS as long the gearbox is 12pin
Only use WS if it's 8pin or 9pin

My car doesn't use CVT transmission. So why then should I use CVT oil?

The car uses a 4 speed automatic (U341E) transmission.

And Toyota clearly said it should use Toyota WS. See attached screenshot from the manual.

I don't know the one that is 12 pin, 8 or 9 pin.

Please why do you want to change your oil?
I have 2012 corolla, are you experiencing any sign?

Please educate me.

No sign.

But here's the thing. When I got the car my mechanic said we should service the engine and gear.

He bought two cans of the oil in the attached image for 50k.

Later, I started doing my research and discovered that the original of that oil sells for around 90k for just one can. That was when I realized that the mechanic either poured fake or inferior oil into my gear.

So, I'm changing it to a higher quality oil. Just as a form of preventive measure.

Hope this helps.

Okay but even after pouring the can type, does it still shift smoothly?

The can type is the recommended one though but the fake is plenty in the market.

Idemitsu is legit OEM transmission oil and is the same thing we sell in our USA stores. Our major competitors all sell it too. TLS-LV would be right for a 2013 Toyota Corolla as WS was phased out and superceded with TLS-LV.

I’ve shared the following product from Advance Auto Parts:
Type TLS-LV Automatic Transmission Fluid - 1 qt | https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/idemitsu-type-tls-lv-automatic-transmission-fluid-1-qt-10114-042b/11359389

Okay. Thank you.

Is it true that changing the transmission oil when the engine is warm damages the transmission?

Please reply.

Some manufacturers recommend it, also to let the engine warm to ensure smooth flow of the fluid. But warm is normally a few minutes at cold start.

UPDATE: So I finally settled for this in the attached picture.

I got it from MyParts NG. They vowed they don't sell fake.

Each can is sold for 90k. So I got two for 180k.

I did a complete transmission flush this afternoon. We drained, refilled. Then removed the cooler return hose, started the engine for the oil in the torque converter to pour out. As the old oil was pouring out, we were introducing new one gradually. Until all the old oil was out.

I don't know if it's just in my head sha. But the transmission feels smoother now.

More updates later if any development.

Does your car consume the two cans?

Mine short and I wanted to drain and refill, instead of topping up.

And I was asked to get only one can, which is 4L

If you are doing simple drain and fill, then you need only one can.

But what I did was a total flush. So I had to use the two cans.

The flush was done through the cooler return hose.
Re: Who Knows About This Transmission Oil? by minista94(m): 8:35pm On Sep 10, 2025
Okay thanks,

Another question, I was told the car needs to park over night for transmission to cool down before draining and refill

But I can't park my car in any mechanic workshop to avoid stories that touches the heart

How do you go about yours?

I was told that too. But I read on foreign blogs that it wasn't necessary.

However, this is what I did. My house is not far from the mechanic's place. Less than 5 minutes drive.

So, I drove the car that same morning to his workshop around 8.40am. Then I stayed there and waited till around 12pm. By then, the engine was already cold. I asked him to remove the oil.

I have now driven close to 200 miles since the change, no issues.

Don't park your car overnight in a mechanic's place o.

Or you can get the mechanic to come to your house early in the morning for the change. If they insist it must be done after car has been parked overnight.

Okay thanks

Yes I read that too, I don't know why our Naija mechanics have that mentality.

What of the drain plug gasket, you change am too? Because the video i watched, the said we should always replace.

Nah. Didn't replace the gasket.

Not really sure that step is compulsory.

Alright thank you
I really appreciate

I just told them as you said but they insist the transmission would still be hot by then, upon i told them I would be at their workshop by 8am, so they drain around 4pm or 5pm

It's filling station though, but my mind no carry am to park my car over night

I watched some videos on YouTube, those whites used to calibrate with obd scanner at some temperature 94 to 113 Fahrenheit, does yours undergo such calibration after the refill?

The ones that need the thermometer thing are those without a dipstick.

Your 2012 Toyota corolla has a dipstick. You can watch some YouTube videos on how to properly check the transmission oil level.

After pouring the oil, match the brake, and cycle the gear from park all the way to L.

Then drive the car around for like ten to fifteen minutes. Next, park on a flat surface. With the engine running and gear in park, pull the dipstick, clean with clean cloth, insert back, pull again and check the level.

It should be between the two notches of the hot mark.

If it's slightly above, no problem, but if it's way higher, then loosen the drain plug a little for some of the oil to go out. And check again.
