On Thursday 4 September 2025, Abdulsalam Yusuf, a 6-year-old scrabble player from Kwara State, and his teammate Olamide Hassan, both made history by winning gold for the state in the male doubles event at the ongoing National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State.

Speaking after the medal presentation, Yusuf ascribed his success to training, determination, and love for Scrabble.

“I developed interest in Scrabble because of the logical reasoning and technicality of the game. I am proud to win this medal for Kwara State, and hope to continue representing the state at national and international tournaments,” he said.

Yusuf also expressed gratitude to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and the Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission Coach Bolakale Mogaji, for giving him the opportunity to show his talent at the games.

Just imagine. In the skills section of some children's CV, Candy Crush is all they'll have, while competing for jobs with those who developed much better valuable skills as children.

I am personally grateful you posted it. Parents here can not now claim they never knew, and those Candy Crush children will definitely ask why when their Candy Crush skills don't get them employed nor feed them.
