He should have known that all the while. El-Rufai and the rest of them came together to do damage to the country, all in the name of winning elections. We are still battling that war. So nothing is new in politics.

Betrayal abi ? Mr Jonathan what you experience in 2015 is just 10% of what you will experience if you attempt to contest 2027 presidential election

The thing that caused Jonathan's loss, was the same thing that led to Shagari's overthrow

Let's go back in time

From 1973-October 1982, oil prices were on a sustained high, that Nigeria enjoyed, at least for the middle class upward, a high standard of living. That was when PAN was producing nearly 1000 cars a day, and when you could even buy foreign stuff here for cheap. Shagari took over when oil was still high, then in Oct 1982, they crashed. That led to serious economic crisis, which copuled with the corruption of the regime..which was always there but continued unabated...led to the army taking over and buhari ruling us. (Which should not have happened, but Nigerians overlook treason if they think they will enjoy better)

Flash forward to 2014, and then from 2008 , oil had been high (it went as high as 145 dollars per month that year). TImes were good, and then from 2009-14 it never went below 90 dollars, infact from 2011, it never went below 100 dollars. Times were very good back then. Then Deja vu....in April 2014, oil crashed. BY 2015 jan, we were in dire straits..no money for subsdies, salaries, etc...we were borrowing...because you see, for us not to borrow, oil has to be between 103-150 dollars per barrel. It was 80 dollars and falling.

And then there was the corruption in the regime, and monkey business, and then the percieved handling of the security issues in nigeria, where every attack by Boko was perceived as a plot against jonathan by the North, not as an attack on the nation.

I mean, see how the then first lady responded to chibok. See how Jona supporters framed the chibok attack. It was an attack on their man by a North determined to unseat him. It may have been, but it also made the government look like it was not working to keep nigeria safe, it was working to keep one man in power.

(Remember chibok was not an isolated incident...there had been attacks on schools. Remember that the attacks of boko were on muslims as well as christains. Yet, the government response was state sanctioned paranoia).

Result...Jonathan lost. And we got...Buhari again

And the thing is, we got another leader who was not ready to take hard decsions unless forced. Like his successor tinubu.

I don talk my own. I no dey support any Nigerian politican. For elections, I vote for the small parties.

Shouldn't you be giving that advise to Tinubu instead? Karma is about to be served to him.

Shagari was overthrown mainly because the 1983 elections were rigged
Corruption in those days was nothing like what we have today
Did we hear that Shagari, any minister or governor took money out of the country?

The same rigging that caused the Wet e in 1965 happened in 1983
Similar scenes were seen in Ondo state NPN took 14 out of 19 states which clearly was out of sync with their popularity

4 years earlier they won 7 states out of 19
In 1983 they jumped t 14 and swept the National Assembly

So when the army came people did not complain
You are correct there were emerging economic problems due to incompetence

Shagari was never tried for corruption

The rigging was too brazen
Fela even sang about it

People no go vote, dem come get big big numbers. Thousands to thousands, millions to billions. Which kind election be this? Baba nla nonsense!"

Gej trusted the north with his balls they nearly cut them off. Tinubu will learn from Gej not to appoint INEC chairman from the North. If you are pleasing the North they will Bleep you up but when you Bleep them hard they will fall into place.

he knows nothing. there were external support for buharis takeover . The increase in boko haram attacks was to reduce whatever support jonathan had in the north which is the majority . a former us secretary of state under obamas govt visited buhari before the elections in daura.
