Anyhow you want to spin it, God almighty allowed it to be so, so that adeboye, His chosen can emerge.

Spin it all you like, na so God plan am
We're both spinning it the way we prefer it, because none of us was there

That's the right & ideal thing to do. But he probably would have thought twice if the church was a big multi-million naira church then.

But I can't condemn those who hand over to family members, because if I am in their shoes, I may not hand over a lifetime investment I have sweated to build to a non-family member. Since you tagged it an "investment," it means it is no longer a church, but a business enterprise.

Although there may be circumstances that will compel you to hand over to a non-family member.
since you tagged it an "investment," it now means, it is no longer a Church, but a business enterprise.

SPIRITUAL INVESTMENT.
Investment does not always denote financial or business enterprise.

He has children. They are all based in the UK. RCCG has consistently provided for their upkeep.

I hope the same spirit of God will be allowed to choose after Pastor Adeboye.
This is where you lie. There will never be any spirit anywhere to choose any successor for Adeboye. He has already known who would succeed him and I bet you, it will definitely be his immediate family member. So, he will definitely decide and won't allow any spirit anywhere to do that for him.

Your perspective on Rev. Akindayomi's succession decision is truly insightful, and it speaks to a widely held appreciation for what is seen as an act of profound selflessness.

The transition of leadership from Rev. Akindayomi to Pastor E.A. Adeboye stands as a powerful testament to a kind of leadership that is becoming increasingly rare. In a world where dynastic and corporate models of succession often prevail, Rev. Akindayomi's choice to follow what he believed was a divine directive, rather than succumbing to the natural human desire to keep power within his family, is not just a story; it's a profound lesson.

This decision was not made for personal gain or emotional comfort. It was a choice born out of a deep-seated faith in a vision that was bigger than himself, his family, and the church as it existed then. It was an act that prioritized God's will over human convenience, and the result—a global ministry that has touched millions of lives—is undeniable proof of its spiritual integrity.
It's a model of leadership that calls us to consider:

What would happen if more leaders, in all spheres of life, were willing to let go of personal interests and allow their decisions to be guided by a higher purpose? Rev. Akindayomi's legacy is a beacon of hope, showing that true greatness lies not in who we hand power to, but in how we are willing to step aside so that a greater purpose can be fulfilled.

Your points are so valid. Same applies to my Church, the Christ Apostolic Church. The moment God called Apostle Joseph Ayo Babalola, none of his children took over the church affair. His wife didn't even near any of the leadership roles. Today, it's a different ball game. God owns the church and not man. I don't want to mention denominations where church leadership had been made family affairs today. They know themselves. Had God not lifted the founder, would they have been so relevant? If they dont hand over to one of the children, they'd hand over to the wife. Church has become a business empire. God isn't a respecter of man. Hes God of all generations.

Imagine Jesus' family controlling the affairs of Christians globally. God owns everything. We're all Jesus' family members, those who believe in Him and are called by His name.
Happy Sunday all.

May be if Rev Akindayomi had private jets, who knows, his decision might be different! If you as church founder sweat it out to squeeze every kobo from your member and society, you might not easily hand it over in liberal terms!

If you built it with cash from your pockets, go ahead.
If it was built with offerings and donations, retire in peace and appoint a committee to pick your successor.

I know, but in the case of nowadays Pastors, they view "Church investment" on the financial angle, not in your own way or view of it

You misconstrue INVESTMENT to mean Church Building or a Financial Enterprise.

Hope you know you can invest your time, energy, knowledge etc in people...

The shocking disbelief and disappointment on the faces of the other Pastors in that picture is amazing!
Situations as these will just make one develop a spectacular abhorrence for the chosen one without any other reason than being chosen instead of oneself.

Rev Akindayomi and a very young Pastor Adeboye! It is difficult to see selfless men of God like this now! He handed over to Pastor Adeboye despite the fact he could have transferred power to his wife, children or in-laws! He also didn’t put his family in top positions in the church.

He allowed God to choose and not his emotions and human tendencies! His selfless decision birthed a global church which is one of the biggest in the world. God bless him.

Honestly I sometime consider that decision as a great mistake with the way Adeboye and family living large enjoy another person sweat and the most annoying of it all Akindayomi family not even know in Redeem not a very good thin, however, God work sometime does not need family flow cycle.
