Tragedy struck in Wake village, Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State, early Sunday when armed bandits launched a brutal assault that claimed at least eight lives and left no fewer than 20 others injured. Several victims are reported to be in critical condition.

Attack in the dead of night

According to local sources, the gunmen stormed the village in the early hours, firing indiscriminately at residents. Panic spread as families attempted to flee, but many were caught in the crossfire. Alongside the killings, the attackers abducted an unspecified number of villagers, further deepening the community’s grief.

The injured have since been rushed to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention, while others are being cared for within the community due to limited healthcare access.

Community in mourning

At the time of filing this report, Wake village was conducting mass burials for the victims. Grieving families and community members gathered in solemn ceremonies as they struggled to come to terms with the loss.

Residents described the attack as one of the most devastating in recent times, with many left homeless and traumatized. Community leaders are also mobilizing resources to provide relief for survivors and families of the deceased.

Kidnappings and growing insecurity

While the exact number of abducted villagers remains unclear, sources confirmed that men, women, and children were among those taken away by the assailants. The incident underscores the rising spate of banditry, kidnappings, and violence in Kaduna State, particularly in vulnerable rural communities.

As of the time of this report, the Kaduna State Police Command has not released an official statement regarding the assault. Security experts, however, argue that urgent intervention is needed to curb the incessant wave of attacks that continue to plague communities in Southern Kaduna and beyond.

Government won't help you, defend yourself. I remember the Sharia crash of early 2001 in Kaduna. People were Burnt alive. Something that start around 2pm, by 4pm our house in nasarawa was burnt. We left Kaduna 2005, since then haven't set feet on that stats again. Even mum don't care about the land in Kaduna self, her life is more precious.

We stay between the Christian and hausa side, all our house was burnt, all my dad house friends were killed, dad wanted us to sleep home that night and move to a safer place in the morning. Mum say no that we most move that night. We move around 3pm, before 4pm our house were Burnt down.
