In a commendable display of academic excellence, Hon. Afolabi Moruf Afuape, a member of the House of Representatives representing Abeokuta South, on Tuesday, 2nd September returned to the classroom to teach hundreds of students at Rev. Kuti Memorial Grammar School and St. Peter’s Primary School in Abeokuta. This marked the fourth edition of the Afolabi Moruf Afuape Education Support Initiative, a program designed to provide free summer coaching to students from less-privileged backgrounds.


Afuape, an economist and former Commissioner in Ogun State, stressed the significance of discipline and hard work in achieving success. "There's no escape route in life except hard work," he told the students, urging them to focus on their studies and avoid distractions that could derail their future. He emphasized that education remains the passport to success, drawing from his own experience as a former lecturer at Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) Abeokuta.

The lawmaker explained that the initiative was not a political gimmick but a deliberate effort to support children who might not afford private summer classes. "Most parents may not have the opportunity to send their children to paid summer lessons. That is why we created this platform, and for four years now, we have continued to sustain it," he added.

The program has had a significant impact on the students, with many expressing gratitude for Afuape's commitment to education upliftment. "He created the time to personally teach at the summer class, describing it as deeply motivating," said Mr. Dotun Ajayi, who spoke with The Metrics.

The Executive Secretary of Abeokuta South Education Board, Mr. Olanrewaju Alli, commended Afuape for sustaining the summer class, which has benefited about 5,000 students since its inception. "We urge other well-meaning individuals to draw example from Hon. Afuape's investment in educational development of Abeokuta South Local Government," Alli added.

One of the Coordinators, Comrade Olaniyi Obanoye, expressed appreciation for the program, describing it as impactful and life-changing. As Afuape continues to invest in the educational development of Abeokuta South, his commitment serves as a shining example of the power of education to transform lives.
