💥When Akwa Ibom invested $96m in the Godswill Akpabio Stadium back in 2014, many criticized him; why waste money on a stadium when people are hungry? Yet today, it stands as the only FIFA-recognized stadium where our National Team can host its home matches. What if he did not build it? What if he saved the money in fidelity like Obi? Real leaders don’t just govern for today; they build for tomorrow. The struggles we face now are the result of past leaders who failed to build infrastructures that should be serving us today.

Godswill Akpabio was one of the best governors in Nigeria. That man singlehandedly put his state on the map. Before him, everyone only knew Calabar. |

Removed a whole country economy lifeline the fuel subsidy and started a whooping 15 trillion coastal project in a section of the country Southwest, which has no direct bearing to solving the hardship he created and now he is borrowing left right and centre and the op is justify what again? Only Ronu bandit act in such manner. |

Akpabio built something that the whole Nigeria is enjoying today. Make Obi supporters name one thing Obi did that Anambra is still enjoying today. Akpabio is greater than Peter Obi. |

The Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, commonly known as the Nest of Champions, has long been a key venue for the Super Eagles, and its selection is based on a combination of strategic factors beyond just the pitch. The stadium’s reputation is based on a host of interconnected advantages: - Logistical Efficiency: The city of Uyo boasts a well-structured road network, originally planned to ensure smooth movement. This infrastructure minimizes traffic congestion, ensuring that teams, staff, and fans can travel to and from the stadium and their accommodations with ease. - High-Quality Accommodation: Uyo's growing hospitality sector, particularly the availability of high-end, five-star hotels, meets the standards required for hosting international teams and delegations. - Accessibility: The proximity of the Victor Attah International Airport (just a 45-minute drive from the stadium) provides seamless travel for teams and international visitors. - Peaceful Environment: Uyo and its environs are known for their relative tranquility, offering a serene and secure environment that is conducive to pre-match preparations. - Sustained Investment: The continuous prioritization of sports infrastructure, initiated by former Governor Godswill Akpabio and maintained by successive administrations, has ensured the stadium remains a top-tier facility. However, this focus on world-class infrastructure in key cities like Uyo, Ikot Ekpene, and Eket often overshadows significant development gaps across the state. While these projects are impressive, they exist in stark contrast to the reality for many communities. There are still widespread deficiencies in fundamental public services, including: - Limited Access to Basic Amenities: Many towns and villages still lack consistent electricity and access to clean, potable water. - Inadequate Healthcare: Primary healthcare and universal health coverage remain a challenge for a large portion of the population. - Socio-economic Disparity: This infrastructure development highlights a stark imbalance, where a few urban centers benefit from significant investment while many rural areas live in poverty, creating a jarring disparity in a resource-rich state. While landmark projects are commendable, sustainable development must be inclusive and reach every corner of the state. |

press9jatv: I am from akwa ibom The average uyo person battles unemployment. Any smarty akwa ibomite will chose a brewery that employs like champion does in aka road over the stadium that does not add any value to the unemployment ravaging uyo. Many business have folded in the state. Rent is sky high and all the average person prays for is the sea port to work. So leave Peter obi. One brewery that puts food on the table of 1000s will always be better than a stadium. That is used for apc decamping and 2 matches in a year with no benefit to the average akwa ibomite Lagos makes 100 billion every month. Why are you not talking about lagos not having a standard stadium Lagos budget is trillions. But can't clear ordinary gutter and it stinks like a garbage dump Lekki people are drinking soakaway water All toilet in island are yellow Leave my state and use your south West for your agenda. We have our issues in akwa ibom and the stadium does not solve any. Face the se that you both Bath in mud with on twitter Ogun and other south west states had 96m why did they not build stadiums. You want to compare akwa ibom thatw as getting 40B a month as far back as 2011 with anambra |

press9jatv:Good investment but let me tell you that the only reason it's been maintain is because that's the only one we have for now...I can bet you that if another new stadium is built, the football federation will abandoned it as they did Abuja and also Lagos....we have good stadiums in Nigeria that can meet FIFA standard but we lack serious maintenance culture in this country |

press9jatv:It's not the duty of a governor to build stadium for national purpose. It's infact an indictment on the previous and current governments of the nation who failed to maintain the national stadia. That amount would have done more for the people of his state. If you must spend such amount for a project, it has to be a project that will attract spenders from other parts of the country and the world at large. Our league is just too poor. The government will have to give nearly full autonomy to the clubs and attract private investors. Clubs are supposed to have their private stadia which they develop from a few stands to a monument as the proceeds trickle in. State governments have no business building a stadium |

press9jatv:Can you please share details of how much he also invested in employing teachers and other staff for the free education of all Akwa Ibom children in schools with adequate classrooms, libraries, labs, playgrounds etc? How much change happened in the ratio of public schools to private schools in his eight years tenure? Is it any better than the horrible less than 5% in Lagos after 26 years of eb1lokan's lootocracy master plan? What change happened in other basic education ratios during his tenure? Do you think that free basic education for all Akwa Ibom children is a better way to build for a sustainable tomorrow instead of governing for just today ![]() anonimi: |
