They should adjust their criteria and consider those with 2.2 abeg.

There are bright and great graduates with 2.2 that fell below 2.1 out of Nigerian lecturer's wickedness and inhumane practices.

I was a first class material during my time as a mech engine student but wicked lecturers and my stubborn stance towards some of their practices made some deal with me and I ended up with 2.1 by a very slim margin, and I know there are also 2.2 graduates that entered 2.2 by a slight margin who are very good angry

This class disparity is not discrimination. They want to limit the number of applications they will eventually receive. Just visit LinkedIn. You will see that HR personnel receive more than 100 applications for one useless opening in less than 24 hours. The unemployment situation in Nigeria is scary.

Now, imagine these NLNG openings! They may end up receiving over 100k applications if 2.2 graduates apply. Bros, na human beings like you and me go sort am out one by one! Sometimes, we just need to pity HR people. That's why most companies don't even bother giving people feedback on their applications. They receive tons and tons of them because there are no jobs, while Tinubu is enjoying himself abroad and his laptop boys are here defending this government.

But the most interesting thing is that the top bosses (including people who have stakes in the JV arrangement) and politicians have already shared 80% of the slots among themselves, leaving 20% for excellent applicants who don't have anybody. This country is a big joke!

I understand your point but that is not enough excuse to continue to use this result grade discrimination in modern recruitment.

It's outdated for Christ's sake.

We have technology that can be used to lessen the burden of HR recruitment process.

Can they receive more applications than healthcare organizations in UK that people from all over the world apply to their job openings that don't use graduation result grade as criteria to limit number of applications?

It is only or mostly in Nigeria that you will see a job opening specifying people must have 2.1 or this and that.

Result grade doesn't matter in today's job market.

What matters is practical ability, experience and other skills.

A lot of things make students to fall short of first class or 2.1 in Nigeria especially, these recruiters should always hear this in mind.

Whenever my company advertise for a job, we don't use result grade to scare people away, and it's because I know better.

It's discriminatory and I will take up the matter as a case soon. I will sue one of them, the only discouraging thing is the compromised Nigerian judiciary, if not, I would have started with this NLNG people honestly, it won't cost me much to use them as example for others but unfortunately our compromised Judiciary will most likely not give it a fair hearing angry

There's no job in this world that doesn't have preferences. That they didn't make it explicit doesn't mean such preferences don't exist. Some of them just want to appear fair and just, but they know what they truly need. So, for me, it's better they tell people the truth instead of wasting their time, hope and energy, even though they know such people won't eventually be considered.

Think of the PTDF scholarship that says 2.2 graduates can apply, but it's easier for a camel to pass the eye of a needle than for a 2.2 graduate to win it. Is that what you really want? Do you know why I like myself? I am a realist. Class of degree will always be a major yardstick for eliminating many applicants whenever tons of applications are being considered in both jobs and scholarships.

The truth is, if someone didn't make a 2.1 in the university. Only two things can save the person - going for short certification courses and acquiring experience through voluntary service or small jobs, not a big job like NLNG. Once you have 3 - 5 years, class of degree won't matter anymore because they need your experience at that point, not academic knowledge. Alternatively, the person can start their own business and apply for funds through Bank of Industry or VC firms.

If you decide to get them to remove the class of degree requirement, it won't still change anything because they will still tell the consultant handling the recruitment process to get rid of 2.2 graduates. In the end, only 2.2 graduates with connections can get it and regular people will still get screwed. So, what has your activism changed?

This is the company whose salaries will enable you purchase a new car. The tweet by a popular Uncle Ayo that there is no 9-5 job in Nigeria, blue or white collar, that can enable the worker purchase a brand new car was a lie.

NLNG is that company. Staff rarely resign. They work until retirement.

They should. PwC received over 76K sometime in 2015/17. Seplat received over 40K in 2018. I don't know how many NNPC received in its last two recruitment programs.

I like the way you are cautiously engaging him and trying to dissect the situation with fairness.

But you see his stance of pitying the HR etc, his like-minds are the ones you will meet in the court room.

Read my last post on the thread. I'm talking about NNPC or NLNG here. I'm not talking about GTs in Nigerian Breweries or the likes. Just like me... You probably didn't meet the cut and that's nothing to be ashamed about.

I applied twice, reached the interview twice, but couldn't get in.

First time, I was just fresh outta of NYSC - zero interview experience.

Second time, I had spent 4 years working with a bank... Weird career permutation.

If you're good, NLNG will take you!..
