Beauty Of Nature: My Trip To a Waterfall in Mambilla Plateau

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Qx5-HfgoXY?si=TJhyPjiNve-IdDXE
The Mambilla Plateau is the most beautiful and coldest place in West Africa.

Mayo Gade Waterfall – Hidden Gem of Mambilla Plateau, Taraba State

After a 4-hour chase (3 hours on bike and 1 hour hike), we finally discovered Mayo Gade Waterfall, a breathtaking beauty tucked away in Furumi, Mambilla Plateau, Taraba State, Nigeria.

The journey wasn’t easy – bumpy bike rides through rugged trails, followed by a challenging hike – but the reward was worth every step. Standing before this untouched waterfall on the Mambilla Plateau felt like stepping into paradise. 🌿

If you’re a lover of nature, waterfalls, and adventure travel in Nigeria, this is a destination you must add to your bucket list. The Mambilla Plateau is not just the home of scenic landscapes, rolling hills, and tea plantations – it also hides magical spots like Mayo Gade Waterfall waiting to be explored.

📍 Location: Furumi, Mambilla Plateau, Taraba State, Nigeria
🔥 Adventure Level: Tough but unforgettable

Beautiful and scenic.

When I was younger, in the early 2000s, I used to nurse the idea of visiting exotic destinations in Nigeria, especially the north.

But the unfolding realities of insecurity made me jettison that thought.

Sadly. Though Taraba is relatively safe from my observation

I also visited Kakara Tea Farm, Mambilla Beverages Nigeria Limited, and joined farmers in plucking fresh tea leaves. Nestled on the Mambilla Plateau at 1,800m above sea level, the farm spans over 615 hectares - the largest tea plantation in West Africa.

The cool climate, fertile volcanic soil, and abundant rainfall make the plateau the perfect location for tea cultivation. Here, both black tea and green tea are produced, with the famous Highland Tea standing tall as Nigeria’s pride and one of Africa’s top teas.

This screams beauty. Jos is arguably one of the serene states in Nigeria, devoid of ethnic violence.

I did part of my Youth Service NYSC here.
Sardauna Local government of Taraba state.
You reach there after Gembu.
I actually was accommodated at Mbamga, a community right on the Mambilla plateau.
Food was very cheap; meat too.

I'm not sure whether electricity has reach them yet. Transportation for them is also a bit difficult. Phone network service was also poor but available (plus the Cameroon roaming network).

The place is just a few distance from Cameroon.
The people are lovely, friendly and good.
The women are very hardworking; Some of them have a culture of carrying baskets on their back.

Almost everybody speak English.

The temperature is always chilling cold even during sunshine.

Mambilla plateau.

Confession: "Sometime, I get scared whenever I look at the landscapes"

Picture: That road you see those two women in the picture trekking, i have passed the same road severally.

They are harmless. Eb1lokan knows that only one group is capable of criminal acts here.

When Funke Olakurin, daughter of Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti was murdered instead of Bola Tinubu to make sure that the perpetrators were brought to book, he ended up making fun of the death of the young lady by turning everything into tribalism by showing his hates for Igbos.

Tinubu has never spoken against the deadly activities of Fulani herdsmen across the country

Mrs Olakunrin died of gunshot wounds in July 2019 after her vehicle was attacked by armed men, suspected to be marauding Fulani bandits whose violent activities had reached a frightening level across the southwest states.

Those arrested suspects include Lawal Mazaje, 40, from Felele area of Kogi State; Adamu Adamu, 50, from Jada area of Adamawa State; Mohammed Usman, 26, from Illela area of Sokoto State and Auwal Abubakar, 25, from Shinkafi area of Zamfara State....

However, the leader of the team, identified only as Tambaya, and three others are yet to be found.

Tambaya has been declared wanted by the police and he is said to be capable of communicating in Hausa, Fulfude and Pidgin English.
