It's not about the quality of guns. Assault rifles are assault rifles. Even if you're armed with M50 Cal machineguns, if you're ambushed in a moving convoy ( keyword is ambush) you'd be bested by your assailants. I don't know where you guys get your ideas from. If you see what civil defense officers carry, you won't be talking anyhow.

I am under NSCDC escort every Mondays to Saturdays on a massive project in Nigeria.
But our project does not allow us to be in the bush beyond 4pm.

Sometimes we have to access some areas with higher fortifications in Military escorts and Gun trucks.
Even with that, we can not go some places during the day not to talk of 1030pm.

Chinese, which I no know so well do take unnecessary risks.
Most times, they override security advice if they feel it is going to cost them more. 10:30pm is out of it.

When it is Ambush, the "ambusher" is more powered than the ambushed.

Picture the scene where diz men have already sight dem before hand,or somehow gave out the exact coordinated movement of the BUA workers to the gunmen & dey decided to lay ambush,firing from all angles,since naw ambush aje e go take dem security guys unware nd limited time nd space to fire back,so with diz type of encounter me no blame the security agency,but on tracking & rescuing the expatriates diz one naw 1/10 ....cus Otilor ...The gun men known already before hand dat dey will be there,I just wish we enforce more on our security and assume doz men mount on bullet proof helmet and jacket,e for no too be lyk diz (MAYB)...ALL THE SAME,MAY DEY ALL REST IN PEACE ND GOD GRANT THE FAMILIES OF THE BEREAVED MIND TO BEAR THE LOSS.

The first time I saw civil defense agitating headline to carry weapons and trying to do like soldiers I know that is the beginning of their predicament.

Security personnel, especially those on DD (danger duty) should be properly supported with weapons and kits.

If those officers had at least level 5 bullet proof vests, Night vision googles, level 5 helmets and other protective gear, they would have stood a better chance of putting up a fight as long as it was not a land mine or grenade attack.

Hopefully, the government pays thier families the entitlements without delay.

All these is still not enough to give them a better chance. Know Ambush first deal with your psychological state than anything else

What would have given them a chance at all was if their vehicle was a bullet proof one

They have the advantage of surprise and they are shooting from a stationary position. If they are armed well enough and they have the numbers, the odds are overwhelmingly in their favour, unless the targets are in armoured vehicles or tanks.

You can imagine a large number of assailants who divide themselves into 3 or more groups and then lie in wait on one side of the road, hidden from view. Once the targets are within range, the assailants open fire and that's it.

Have security personnel not been surviving ambushes?

What is your grouse in my statement that having advanced body armour, better weapons and more training would have helped them have a better chance? Keywords 'better chance'. My statement was certainly not absolute, so what is your headache?

Do you think armoured vehicles cannot be incapacitated?

Going by your logic, the security personnel might as well go naked then since only armoured vehicles matter as if armoured vehicles don't have thier own ballistic ordinance rating/limits.
