💥When Akwa Ibom invested $96m in the Godswill Akpabio Stadium back in 2014, many criticized him; why waste money on a stadium when people are hungry?

Yet today, it stands as the only FIFA-recognized stadium where our National Team can host its home matches.

What if he did not build it?
What if he saved the money in fidelity like Obi?

Real leaders don’t just govern for today; they build for tomorrow. The struggles we face now are the result of past leaders who failed to build infrastructures that should be serving us today.
Does Anambra have the kind of money akwa ibom has? So what are u comparing? Must u leave an empty treasury because of a football stadium for fifa? undecided

Actually, before Akpabio, when anyone hears cross river/Akwa ibom in that part of the SS, the only city that comes to mind next is calabar.
franugo:
I'm confused, what's Calabar doing here? Calabar is in cross river not akwa ibom

Which one Tinubu build??
Sannisege:
Akpabio built something that the whole Nigeria is enjoying today. Make Obi supporters name one thing Obi did that Anambra is still enjoying today. Akpabio is greater than Peter Obi.

Interesting perspective. But let's talk from an economic point of view....

Please can you tell us what value in monetary terms will the stadium give back to Akwa Ibom when the FIFA matches are played there?

How much will Akwa Ibom State government get from in for selling tickets and hosting rights, selling of food stuffs, etc, etc....Please don't do a forecast of probability.
Thanks.

Akpabio try for that one sha, we for hide our face in shame.
I still d not believe in this gigantic projects...

I rather use peter Obi's style..

In Obi's style in Anambra, he said it will b wasteful building one gigantic stadium for the state when alot of youth aspiring athletes live in all local govt of the state.. hence will need huge t/fare every morning as frequently as they need the facility to journey down to the sight in order to access them

Rather u started building mini local government level stadia.. meant to more accessible to the local athletes at hi/her base and help foster sport development faster and more integrated...

As far as you don’t align with their Agulu saviour and serial party hopper, you’re automatically branded corrupt and a villain. But the moment you join their camp, you instantly become a saint, a saviour, and the perfect democrat. The hypocrisy is choking.

If you believe Peter Obi saved any money, that mean you can believe that Anambra people are more Nigerians than others.

Only illiterate people will rate obi, someone that his brewery is worth next to nothing after investing billions on it.

Even Anambra are not benefitting from it not to talk about the country.

Nigeria have been benefitting from akpabio legacy, these is how you know leaders with foresight.

Da, you really have time. I've come to realise that a good number of those promoting bigotry on this platform, both ibo and Yoruba are individuals that have not left their immediate geographic location to experience other parts of the country. It's an unfortunate situation we've found ourselves in since the last election. What has Akpabio building a stadium (with a staggering $90M) has to do with Peter Obi? The unam ikot didn't bother to compare what FIFA standard stadium in other countries built on similar budget looks like. Now you have made some salient points but they will attack you instead of taking the facts.

Shidinky:

I am from akwa ibom
The average uyo person battles unemployment. Any smarty akwa ibomite will chose a brewery that employs like champion does in aka road over the stadium that does not add any value to the unemployment ravaging uyo. Many business have folded in the state. Rent is sky high and all the average person prays for is the sea port to work. So leave Peter obi. One brewery that puts food on the table of 1000s will always be better than a stadium. That is used for apc decamping and 2 matches in a year with no benefit to the average akwa ibomite

Lagos makes 100 billion every month. Why are you not talking about lagos not having a standard stadium
Lagos budget is trillions. But can't clear ordinary gutter and it stinks like a garbage dump
Lekki people are drinking soakaway water
All toilet in island are yellow
Leave my state and use your south West for your agenda. We have our issues in akwa ibom and the stadium does not solve any.
Face the se that you both Bath in mud with on twitter

Ogun and other south west states had 96m why did they not build stadiums. You want to compare akwa ibom thatw as getting 40B a month as far back as 2011 with anambra

That's a funny thing to say. You're essentially making your opinion sound like fact. I read posts from people like you and realize why Nigeria is the way it is.

Name one country that built its economy around sports and vanity projects?

Singapore got independence just around same time as Nigeria, their own government prioritized education, economic improvement through power generation and boosting productivity. Today they may not have a world class stadium but they are a first world economy.

Aside from Uyo municipal, which other place in Akwa Ibom is on par with MDG goals for development.

Why should a stadium (used couple of times a year) be prioritized over the education of millions of children and lifting them out of poverty. In case you don't know, education is the quickest path out of poverty but folks like you will rather praise infrastructures that serve next to zero economic values.

In your opinion,is the stadium profitable right now or it's still maintained by the government?

A good administrator has to create a balance between human capital development and infrastructural development for real economic purposes and adding value t the society.

Nevertheless, is that the kind of sense and mindset he employed with his private businesses?
