That used to be true back in the day, but its no longer that way. With ARVs, people living with HIV are living long, normal lives. I have seen it myself. The real problem now is stigma, not even the virus.

Stigma be like where shit dey or rob for your body. Anywhere where we you go, your body go dey smell and people go dey run from you.

When I'm down with malaria, sure I medicate. FOR A FEW DAYS. In the time I'm medicating, I'm definitely not leading a "normal" life. Or even anti-hypertensive. The moment you get on that, you no longer lead a normal life

I know one guy he is barely 26, has a pack of drugs he uses. He's obesed, high BP and can't sleep without taking drugs. I'm sure he takes more drugs than and HIV patients.
So my question, would you say he is living a normal life as opposed to someone with HIV?

Why should someone with HIV face more stigma than someone with a pack of drugs every night? Or someone with cancer?
Aren't they all relying on drugs to survive?
Why is one not facing stigma and the other is?

There was never any lie at any point. Medical science evolved. Medical science discovered HIV/Aids. Drugs were discovered, not to heal, but to manage. It required several drugs to control initially, including social habits. Over time medicine made further discovery regarding drugs and there it is today with ARVs all over.

The lie came with herbal practitioners claiming that they had drugs that could cure HIV/AIDS and people fell for it. I knew someone who fell for it and lost his life. That’s the lie when you claim success over what you knew nothing about in the first place.
