Tinubu Orders FEC Committee To Crash Food Prices by iwaeda(op): 8:15pm On Sep 10, 2025
President Bola Tinubu has called for a Federal Executive Council committee to move swiftly and implement measures to further reduce food prices across the country.

Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, disclosed this on Wednesday in Abuja.

According to him, the directive focuses on ensuring the safe passage of farm produce across transport routes to cut logistics costs.

The President has given a matching order with a federal executive council committee already handling it on how we are going to promote safe passage of agricultural foods and commodities across our various routes in the country,” Abdullahi said at a capacity-building workshop for Senate correspondents.

Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation, has faced worsening food insecurity since the removal of fuel subsidy, high transport costs, and insecurity on major highways disrupted the movement of goods.

Despite government interventions, food remains largely unaffordable for millions.

The minister said the plan is tied to Tinubu’s broader vision of food sovereignty—beyond availability to ensure affordability, accessibility, and nutrition on a sustainable basis.

To back this up, he revealed that the government is set to roll out a Farmer Soil Health Scheme to boost productivity and a revamped cooperative reform initiative to mobilise resources and empower rural farmers.

“Mr. President has shown tremendous interest in the cooperative sector as a veritable tool for resource mobilisation, for economic activity generation, and to improve the livelihood of members,” Abdullahi added.

The event, themed “Parliamentary Reporting: Issues, Challenges and Responsibilities,” also featured Senate Media Committee Chairman, Senator Yemi Adaramodu; ex-presidential aide, Senator Ita Solomon Enang; and NILDS DG, Prof. Abubakar Sulaiman.

Tinubu had earlier said in June that Nigeria is on the path to achieving food sovereignty on the back of measures put in place by his administration.

Tinubu said this during his Democracy Day speech at the National Assembly.

He said, “Our ‘Nigeria First’ policy will further enhance progress as we consolidate market-driven growth. The improved economic performance is encouraging and validates the soundness of our policy measures. Our medium-term growth target remains an economy growing at a seven per cent clip with a stronger manufacturing base. We must learn to produce and grow most of our food, and we are on the path to achieving food sovereignty…

So, Tinubu is going to crash the price of farm produce by decreasing transport costs, meaning cheaper fuel, and mechanics charging less, and police and agberos not taking a cut, and so on?

This I must see.

He can go further, once that works, by making fertiliser and pest control and labour cheaper too, I guess, and providing storage to reduce waste.

Hopefully, this is not a case of "Let there be Light", Nepa!

Crash food price, how sir? When armed herdsmen are still on rampage, cost of getting seeds and fertilizer is rooftop high,to hire farm labour is not cheap. Does the president think his order will miraculously crash down food prices without addressing the myriad of issues that led to the increase?

There's critism, there's skepticism and there's just plain negativity which is what a lot of you exhibit.

You can't see any good in anything ever. No one can help you with that. You think you hate the country and it's president? Think again.

I know I will be ban but I av to express myself.
Ordering FEC to crash d prices of food is not d issue that I have with PBAT, but will he provides d workforce?

To clear half a plot before Tinubu is 1500 but now it is 4k or 3.5k depending on d land. Sharp shooter was #1,800 d smaller size but now it is #5000 naira, urea fertilizer was 20k b4 Tinubu, now it is 55k etc. I did farm irrigation at d total cost of 600k on 3 acres of land around March 2023 for cucumbers but now planning to expand on another 3 acres land, I was told I will need 1.5m.

So Mister president who is fooling who? I think somebody's brain needs to be formatted and reset that is my 2 cents submission.

Re: Tinubu Orders FEC Committee To Crash Food Prices by Basicend: 8:37am On Sep 11, 2025
So funny. If he is truly interested in reducing prices of food and general goods, he will continue to ensure that determinants like Fuel price, FX exchange rate is gradually reduced.

Tinubu needs prioritize food and welfare security of the citizens first, and stop speaking grammer up and down.

Also, be accountable with the people's resources as you tax. You don't tax a poor people to death and still waste it.
