Hilton Kathmandu, The Tallest Hotel In Nepal Burnt To Ashes During Protest by Slytiger(op): 2:43pm On Sep 11, 2025
Buildings were set ablaze and politicians furiously attacked this week as Nepal citizens brought down their government. Military choppers evacuated several lawmakers as the protesters set fire to their homes and chased them down the streets. They also torched the Supreme Court and set several official buildings including the Presidential residence ablaze. Visuals that have since gone viral showed the Kathmandu Hilton hotel turned into a charred husk and vandals looting the house of a Nepali businessman.

Hilton Hotel in Kathmandu torched
The tallest hotel in Kathmandu turned to ash on Tuesday — merely a year after opening its doors. Dramatic visuals shared online showed flames pouring of the windows as protesters raged across the city. It remains unclear whether guests were caught up in the carnage with some later posting videos seeking help. Some on social media claimed that they had seen visuals of toursts trying to escape the building.

“The fact that protesters targeted a hotel where tourists were staying shows how the situation spiraled beyond any legitimate protest!” fumed one X user.

“Bhatbhateni burned, Businesses burned, Factories burned. Major national institutions burned. And people are cheering that. No one will dare to invest in Nepal anymore,” a Reddit post lamented.

“This is so sad. I watched some Instagram stories of tourists escaping the building. This was completely unnecessary,” added a third.

Some on social media have offered an explanation — contending that the building had stood for corruption and “elite capture” in the minds of many Nepalis. It had been mired in controversy before its repeatedly delayed opening and even faced raids for suspected irregularities and other backroom deals. The benefits of ‘foreign investment’ had allegedly flown to a handful of politically connected families — coming back to the core of the ongoing uprising.

Similar incidents of hotel-burning were also reported from other Nepali cities — with one Indian tourist requesting Embassy support via social media.

“I request the Indian embassy to please help us. All those who can help us, please help. I am stranded here in Pokhara, Nepal. I had come here to host a volleyball league, and currently, the hotel where I was staying has been burned down. All my luggage, all my belongings, were in my room, and the entire hotel was set on fire. I was in the spa, and people were running behind me with very large sticks, and I barely managed to escape with my life,” the woman — identified as Upasana Gill — can be heard saying.

House of Nepali businessman ransacked
Multiple houses linked to Nepali politicians and business leaders have also been ransacked and destroyed by the protesters over the past two days. Videos of protesters targeting Nepali businessman Upendra Mahato have, however, gone viral for all the wrong reasons — as it appears to have been a case of mistaken identity. The official is currently in Russia and serves as the president of the Russia-Nepal Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Local media reports later suggested that the protesters had mistaken his house for the residence of Janata Samajbadi Party Upendra Yadav.

Nigerians still won’t be grateful to the administration of His Excellency, President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR).

Look at what politicians are doing to citizens of Nepal causing a revolt.

Here, we have a steadfast and dedicated leader putting things together bit by bit and still won’t demand applauses from us.

Nigerians need to rethink and know that all His Excellency, President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR) is demanding from us is our support and patriotism.

God bless His Excellency, President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR)

This is serious.
Anyway, that's the best way they felt they can make a statement on the state of the country.

I saw several Nepali videos on tiktok of looting activities going on and on a large scale.

My own is that if you want to riot or protest or whatever you call it, please go and do it in your region.

Eat the rich, if it comes to Nigeria it may be worse except the poliical system are fixed to cleanse the decaying aspect governance, yes it may be postponed but will not be inevitable.
The rich have nothing to lose. They will be evacuated to safety and return after you must have all torn each other apart.

The people that will lose are business owners and middle and low class people trying their best to earn an honest living.

After the burning of this hotel, Insurance would pay the multinational hotelier Hilton. Instead of reinvesting in Nepal, it would take its money elsewhere. The people that would be out of jobs are the thousands of Nepalis that worked at the burnt down hotel.

If you spoke to endsars apologist, you will hear the protest was hijacked by govt. agents to blackmail the protesters. Dumbos!
How long will it take Nepal to recover, if at all!
I'm definitely for protest but sensible ones with clear goals. My days in the student union activism has proven that there's always some ulterior motives by few planners.

Indeed. All wannabe protestors should first start with their own LG chairman, legislators and Governors. They should ensure they stay away from the States and leaders of others.

A repeat of #EndSARS will not be tolerated where Kanu instructed Lagos be burned down and Yoruba leaders killed while he insisted no area of the SE must be attacked or destroyed.

Yorubas are wiser now

Politicians believe it won’t happen in their country so they keep looting like business as usual.

Grateful for what, hunger, inflated fuel prices, or a collapsing naira? Tinubu isn’t fixing anything; he’s just repackaging failure with Propaganda

You mention Nepal they’re revolting because of leaders like the one you’re worshipping here. Nigerians have every right to do the same.

Support is earned, not begged for. Patriotism isn’t silence it’s calling out the mess you are defending blindly.

God bless Nigeria because clearly, Tinubu’s government won’t.

No matter what this is not the best way to go. They will reap insecurity and instability as faceless armed gangs take over and all foreign investors will flee.

Public funds will still be used for the rebuilding. Most protests aren't genuine, most people protesting are doing so because they are not the ones benefitting from the corruption or lootings.
