Ghana has always been a charity pariah state from time. Just not quite long ago she was a world charity destination country whose entire government revenue was 90% based on international charity donations. So I am not entirely surprised she's offered herself up for another piece of charity donations |

amazonguru001:Ghana sits at the centre of West Africa. The US chose Ghana to dump all deportees from West Africa . Its from Ghana , they are expected to be repatriated back home. It makes sense , since a single flight will carry all deportees of West African deportees to Ghana and from there the Ghanian government will carry out another deportation to their individual countries of origin. |

D00msDay:Not true They simply chose Ghana as a one stop destination point to return all deportees from West Africa instead of sending them to their individual countries which will be far expensive than just dropping them off in Ghana and from there , Ghana carries out a secondary deportation. |

| Re: Ghana To Accept Nigerians, West Africans Deported From The US - Mahama by cosade(m): 10:16pm On Sep 11, 2025 |
Onewazobia:Because the home countries of the deportees are not willing to accept them. |

cosade:Not true. No country can deny their own. The reason for choosing Ghana as a hub to dump refugees stems from cost of ferrying each individual deportee to their country of origin. By choosing one destination, in this case Ghana, several nationalities from West Africa can be sent to one location and from there the Ghanian will then send them to their individual countries. Ghana was chosen because of its geostrategic location in west Africa as it sits smack in the middle . It is all down to logistics and costs to the US gov. |

DomPerignon:Also, Trump will look favourably towards the Ghanaian regime in terms of aid or ignoring corrupt practices. Same as they did for animals like Mobutu all that time. |

boxypane:Lies..... Trump is giving them money for it. It's an insult. You have criminals and rejects in your country and you go ahead and pay another country to accept that they should be dumped in their country. |
| Re: Ghana To Accept Nigerians, West Africans Deported From The US - Mahama by Vision101(m): 2:14am On Sep 12, 2025 |
ChristineC:Deportees are not allowed to take anything. Americans will not allow you to take much of their money out. These are rejects in their country. |

Pathetic. The U.S. should do something significant like removing their foreign military bases and stopping the work of the CIA overseas. You will be surprised by the impact. |

fergie001:Human resource (population) brings about the financial resources (wealth). The only issue in Africa is we don’t see to sensitive, educate, and improve the technicality, and mindset of their population, nor the basic amenities for good standard of living. (But the government is filled with greedy and ignorant bastards that are way myopic). The work force builds the economy and the nation at large, no other ways out or shortcuts. (No be by selling our birthrights, resources and so on). The transformation should start within. Not by external aids. The population (work force) is the single most important assets of a nation when mostly equipped with a sane ideology, in a working and conducive environment or nation. Kudos to Ghana for this. |

DomPerignon:It’s obvious you don’t have any clue about deportation process. USA ——- If a deportee's home country is unwilling to accept them, the deportee is typically released from immigration detention in the U.S. after a certain period (e.g., 180 days), as a country cannot be forced to take someone back and indefinite detention is unconstitutional. Diplomatic pressure, such as withholding foreign aid or denying visas to the recalcitrant country's citizens, may be applied by the U.S. to encourage cooperation. In some cases, the U.S. may also attempt to deport the person to a "third country" that is willing to accept them, but this requires that the third country also be a safe option for the deportee. |

Solution—this is simple. Whether Ghana’s decision to serve as a hub for returning West Africans is the right move or not, the bigger picture is clear: West African nations must deepen cooperation and collaboration. When it comes to immigration policy, we need to face a hard truth—not all deported West African citizens are criminals. Many have simply overstayed their visas and now face unjust treatment, often fueled by systemic racism and xenophobia. This kind of regional solidarity isn’t just a lofty ideal—it’s practical, urgent, and long overdue. All member states of supernational AES and ECOWAS bloc should work toward harmonizing their immigration frameworks building fair, transparent, and humane systems that doesn't undermine regional security or soverignty. |
