End Natasha’s Suspension Or Face Mass Action, NLC Warns Senate by Afritalestv(op): 11:31pm On Sep 11, 2025
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has warned leadership of the National Assembly to rethink its continued decision to bar Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan from performing her sacred constitutional duties.

President of the NLC, Comrade Joe Ajaero, who in a statement on Thursday said Congress would not stand idly by while leadership of the National Assembly “cannibalise” the nation’s democracy, vowed to mobilise members against what he described as a descent into legislative dictatorship and democratic Anarchy.

He said: “This act is not merely an error in judgment; it is a brazen, premeditated assault on democracy itself, a direct threat to the social contract, and a dangerous slide towards fascism masquerading as governance.

“That you suspended a fellow Senator from her constitutional roles depriving her people proper representation is not sinful enough but you went ahead to ignore the rulings of the Court that voided her suspension and at the expiration of your illegal suspension, you are still denying her a return is the height of impunity and morally reprehensible. This is no longer democracy.

“The Senate’s pathetic recourse to a frivolous legal technicality, claiming the matter is sub judice; after the expiration of a patently illegal six-month suspension, is the height of legislative bad faith. It is a cynical ploy that reveals a sinister agenda to silence dissent, crush opposition, and manipulate the judiciary as a tool of political persecution.

This action, led by Senator Akpabio, constitutes a gross abuse of power that shames the hallowed chambers of the National Assembly and spits on the collective will of the people of Kogi Central who elected Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan.

“From our standpoint, this action is a direct attack on the Nigerian people. It is a declaration by a privileged political elite that they are not accountable to the citizens they purport to serve. By willfully disenfranchising an entire senatorial district, the Senate is effectively stealing the political representation for which the people pay taxes.

This denies Kogi Central its right to participate in lawmaking, oversight, and the appropriation of national resources, directly impoverishing the constituents and perpetuating a system of exclusion and economic injustice. It signals to all Nigerians that their votes are meaningless and can be invalidated by the whims of any tyrannical leadership.

“The NLC stands on the side of democracy and wishes to state that this action is: a calculated test-run for the emasculation of opposition and the subjugation of sovereign will as 2027 approaches. It is an attempt to punish integrity and honour and hound men and women of conscience out of the political space. A Senate that operates as a court in its matter, suspends members, and then ignores the expiry of its own sanctions, is a Senate that has declared war on the very principles of representative democracy and on our nation.

“We warn the leadership of the National Assembly and their enablers: the Nigerian people, united across ethnic and religious lines, will not stand idly by while you cannibalise our democracy.

The labour movement, as the historic defender of justice and the common good, will mobilise its immense membership and moral authority to resist this slide into autocracy. An attack on one senator today is an attack on the sovereignty of every Nigerian voter tomorrow.”

Senator Akpabio is brazenly attempting a coup in Kogi Central.

By subverting the Constitution and leveraging his allies in the Senate, he is undermining the will of the people he is sworn to serve.

The punishment for such acts against democratic governance is severe, and Nigerians must resist en masse. No single individual has the authority to nullify the votes of Kogi Central’s citizens.

Senator Akpabio must be held accountable, and impeachment as Senate President should be considered. This is no longer a question of politics it is a matter of preserving democracy.

Akpabio is playing Nigerians. The court told Senator Natasha to resume; he ignored it, claiming the legislature equals the judiciary. Now that her suspension is over, he hides behind “sub judice.” Nigerians are not fools.

He is the most undemocratic Senate President ever. His personal grudges cannot block Kogi Central’s rightful representation.

i double dare and even triple dare the NLC to embark on a strike because of a rude, unruly, uncoth and disrespecful woman.

Who does Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan think she is ?

Its a clear affront on 108 other Senators, right thinking Nigerians and the Judiciary for the Judiciary to give a Judgement and because Natasha has chosen not to obey the Appeal Court Judgment of deleting the satirical post and also writing a letter of Apology to the Senate.

Let the Senate insist that she tenders that apology letter or they will not let her into the hallowed chambers.

She has the temerity, audacity and guts to accuse a highly ranking Public Official without evidence till date, in saner climes she would be charged for defamation and put behind Bars.

It does not matter if Senator Natasha is seen as unruly, uncouth, or even disrespectful. She was not elected to please the Senate, she was elected by the people of Kogi Central. Perhaps those very qualities were what endeared her to her voters. That choice is theirs alone.

Democracy means people vote for whom they want. If the people of Kogi Central chose her blind, crippled, or outspoken, it is not for the Senate to overrule their decision. Her mandate is not conditional on obedience or subservience.

In the Senate, she stands on equal footing with every other legislator. This patriarchal culture of demanding deference and silencing strong voices must end. Senator Natasha must be allowed to resume her rightful seat and represent the people who sent her there.

What was the business of Tinubu in Rivers state affairs? Tinubu and Akpabio keep pushing their luck to see how far Nigerians can take. This move against Natasha by Akpabio is meant to serve as a warning and to emasculate other senators just like the state of emergency in Rivers did to all the governors. It's a precursor to dictatorship and fascism.

Trash that you wrote above...l have help you to trash them.

Let me respond to your first line

The moment Natasha swore on the first day of her resumption to adhere to the rules of the Senate
She is bound by those rules....
Senate has their own autonomy to discipline it's members without recourse to the public opinion

No propaganda l repeat no propaganda will stop Senate from teaching her a lesson she deserves......

The Constitution trumps every Senate rule. What Akpabio is doing is no different from Abacha overthrowing Shonekan just because he felt slighted in Aso Rock. This excuse of “unruliness” is laughable and has no place in law.

Senator Natasha is not Akpabio’s child, she is an elected representative with a constitutional mandate. Suspension is not a playground punishment where rules are invented on the spot. There are clear constitutional limits, and they cannot be rewritten to suit personal grudges.

Frankly, if it were me, you would have to arrest me before stopping me from resuming my seat. Democracy is not about Akpabio’s ego, it is about the will of the people.

Kogi Central gave Senator Natasha a mandate under the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria—and no Senate rule can override that. The Constitution is supreme.

This is like God commanding you to stay awake, and you defy Him by saying your pastor told you to sleep. Akpabio must understand: the Constitution is God, and he must stay within its bounds.

Let me respond to your first line, making your letters bold & red means that you are yelling & frustrated (childish because you can still make your point)
Even though you deserve to be ignored ...
I will reply you because of objective readers who are law abiding and sensible than yeyenatu Natasha akpoti

First....had it been Natasha is not a senator
Nigerian constitution is supreme and bound by it
But she had Swore to an oath of office....an extra constitution guiding the operation of the Senate institution....and so she is bound by it or to be decipline by it without opinion from outsiders.
Nigerian constitution does not overrule the Senate rules on this Until there's a court order directing the Senate to admit her
She is at the mercy of the Senate institution....they can ignore her as if she doesn't even exist...if you like pack the whole almajiri our group urchins including Mama p .. and Aisha yesufu and NLC altogether
Nothing will happen
Get that at the back of your mind
