Interesting As much as the connection thing is rampant, people still get jobs without knowing anyone... |

ZombieDredd:In 2003 we still regarded one another as brothers and sisters. But Nigerians of today, particularly the younger generations, are totally different. Nigerians of today who are from the same state are capable of discriminating against each other just because they do not come from the same town. For instance, look at what is going on here on this Nairaland forum. If a post appears on Nairaland today that a Yoruba person committed a crime in the UK or anywhere else, you will see that the Ibo and the northerner people will start to do name-checking. The same thing goes when an Ibo or a northerner man commits a crime somewhere; the Yorubas will quickly start to say all sorts of things to these people. Nigerians of today are terrible. The only thing that matters to them is money. |

Sonnobax15:Bros this kind opportunities still happen. It takes audacity and faith. I did something similar years ago. Mine wasn't a job. I was broke and hungry and showed up at a wedding event uninvited as a Mo gbo Mo ya. If I can do that for a wedding party what makes you think someone else can't go to the Secretariat and seek the audience of Governor Sanwo Olu? |

Sonnobax15:True. That is why we all need to just try. You wont lose anything by giving a try. The worst case scenario is to get a NO which is no big deal. My very good friend Daniel, got his major breakthrough in life via a job with SHELL/LNG. He just finished his attachment. A friend saw an opportunity and told him about it. My friend said, na lie, he knows he cant get the job, that those guys already know those they want to employ. That his friend prevailed on him till he applied. Long story short. Daniel got the job. He has been doing well since almost 25 years now. Baba has been travelling form continent to continent like person wey dey go from Lagos Island To Lagos Mainland. This is why I use everything in me to resist anyone with that useless .mindset of "No point applying, they already know whom they will employ". I will keep trying. I will keep showing up. Till I lay hold of that thing i desire. I am on my way there. You already failed when you dont try. |

It was your lucky day . God was passing by then . Many have landed in jail for the same audacious move for suspicious moves against the seat of government and an attempt to bo*b the govt house allegations leveled against them. Grace speaks and God helps those he wishes to. |

zagorakis:/ Fear is worse than death. Many things happen in Nigeria to those who dare. As a young lad, I got my admission from the JAMB Registrar himself. I walked into the office and he was surprised at my audacity. I walked home that day with my name shortlisted in ABU-Zaria Admission list. For someone who had never been to the North, it was quite a challenge but turned out great. You got to have guts! / |

That was under Orji Uzor Kalu's administration. He was an easy going Governor. His Chief press secretary was a good man then. |

Sonnobax15:True, you can't just walk into a government house and ask for a job anymore 😂. But the lesson isn't how he did it, it's that he did it. The principle is 'shoot your shot.' These days you can respond to a government officials tweet and follow it up with a DM and also it doesn't have to be a government agency. Just know that the hustle remains the same, even if the method changes. Never think you can't. |
