Good day my fellow Nairalanders...Hope y'all are doing well? Omoh,so recently I had an argument with a very good friend of mine who hails from Edo state....It was all about which ethnic group has the best soup ........He firmly maintained that the "groundnut soup" of the great people of Edo state has more dominance over the "Owoh soup" of the great urhobo/isoko people of Delta state.....So I promised him I'd do my research very well and come back to him......And as well learn more about other ethnic groups in Nigeria ![]() Well,Owoh is a very popular traditional soup that has always been in existence even before Lord lugard ever thought of almagamating Nigeria . Yes,you heard me right . It's widely popular among the urhobo/isoko people of Delta state......The myth behind this soup is that,it isn't just ordinary,as it can only be prepared by good cooks and it's eaten with great respect.........And besides it,comes with starch which is usually seen as a nice combo...One funniest thing about this soup is that, without it,no traditional wedding among us,the urhobo/isoko people is seen to be complete because it is one of the major requirements from the groom's family to the bride's family.....It is indeed both spiritually and ancestrally inclined and induced in our customs and traditions that it is even believed that whenever it is eaten, our ancestors from both far and near come together and party to it's aroma ![]() I once attended a traditional wedding ceremony where the marriage was almost abandoned and nullified by the groom's family simply because the brides family failed to entertain them with this Owoh soup.......The bride's family had to send someone out to go and look for any restaurant around where it could be bought, and it was done after so much apologies from the bride's family ![]() Well, I'm only here this day,to showcase the uniqueness that surrounds my cultural soup and hope to also learn about those from other ethnic groups across Nigeria . My dear sister, caaz,it won't be nice if I fail to mention you here ![]() please this thread isn't all about tribal bigotry and insults as I felt like it'd be a nice thing to share our cultural values with one another so to bring unity amongst us...... Please you guys should do the needful 🙏

This looks like poop Especially that of a six month old baby feeding on exclusive breastmilk Having read thru, Op, there are better looking pictures of owoh soup all over the internet than this measly one you brought here be guided I ate this soup at my brother's wedding to an Urhobo damsel. I respectfully and humbly don't think it's worth the hype I think banga is still far better
