What’s the most unhinged thing you’ve done to get ahead?
@tosinolaseinde

Went for an interview in the morning.
The HR personnel checked my documents and refused to sign them so I can proceed to my pannel. He insisted that based on what he is seeing, I was not qualified. I insisted that I was qualified and requested to speak to his boss. He refused. I equally refused to leave the venue till around 6 pm before his boss came around.

I met him and explained the situation. He reviewed my documents and was very furious at the HR rep for denying me the opportunity as he wasn't his job to validate based on his assumptions. He insisted that my documents were perfect and met all requirements. He signed them and my interview was rescheduled for the next day.

The panelists apologized to me for the overzealous behavior of the HR rep and we proceeded with the interview. Ladies and gentlemen, I got the job.

I finished my SSCE in july 2013, and my parents enrolled me in tailorshop a week after. I learnt tailoring and fashion designing for a year, then I wrote jamb in 2014 and would later get admitted to study computer science in the Lagos State Polytechnic, ikorodu. 😔

PLS READ👇.
During my National Diploma days in Laspotech, I would sew for my fellow students and lecturers, the then Rector of the polytechnic, Mr Sogunro, The then ASUP chairman were my clients among many others. In 2016, when I finished my National Diploma course, having graduated as the best student in my class with a DISTINCTION credit, I decided to sit for JAMB again and further my education in a university, this was how I got into the Lagos State University in 2016.

I started sewing for students and other customers that I had gathered while I was still in LASPOTECH. The business wasn't moving so I switched to laundry on campus then, I was my fellow students clothes for as low as 50 naira, THIS WAS IN 2017. It was in my 200LEVEL second semester that I met a client whom I had made clothes for him and his family, I told him my vision and where I see my business in 10 years if he invest in me, he eventually loaned me 1500,000naira then, this was in 2018.

I took part of the money to rent my first shop in festac town and got one more manual sewing machine with the rest of the money, he had told me to pay the money back every month over  a period of 12 months and I agreed but I paid the money back in 6 months.

I started my shop in festac town around 2018 ending with just two machines, then I was the only one that was sewing then. I do sleep inside the shop then as I couldn’t afford to rent an apartment then because I needed to payback the man that borrow me money to start the shop. I lost the humbling pictures of the state of the shop as at then, I would have shared.

I took these pics in August 2020, and sent them to the man that borrowed me the 500k then, to appreciate him and also show him my progress so far, that I have now beautified the shop a little in my capacity and now have a tailor that works for me.

Lo and behold, I still had my machines inside this shop as at this 2020, although, I now have about 4 machines then, but the monthly IGR had increased because of the new look of the shop. Exactly a year later, Allah sent someone to me again that borrowed me 4 million naira again. Someone I met on this same app, VALHALLA, (late now😭). he said I should not add one kobo to it as Interest and payback 330k every month till I pay back. I met up and paid up every month without defaulting. Proof below 🙏.

This expansion happened then because my clientele base was already large and I needed to get more machines and more tailors, so that we can meet up with the orders. The shop wouldn't accommodate us, so I went ahead to rent a two bedroom flat in the same festac.

So from the 4 million naira loan, I got a two bedroom flat in the same festac town and got 4 more machines, my machines became 8 in total. This time I didn’t take a loan, I used my
Savings. Because of the new look of the showroom, I began to get more clothes again and I needed to get more tailors and more machines on board but there’s no more space 😞.
In December 2023, we had to stop collecting jobs as at November ending, the orders were coming in overwhelmingly and I don't have the number of tailors to wrestle the jobs, I felt so bad and unaccomplished, i was down mentally. A lot of my clients expressed their disappointment and all, and I said to myself that I couldn't continue this way. I must expand again and as asap. I have gathered a lot of clout for my business and now I can't meet up jobs because there is no enough facility 😭.

Fast forward to January 1st, 2024, I paid 5m to acquire a new place in ago palace way, a bigger place I will use for both workshop and showroom at the same time. I was able to gather this #4M between October, November and December, after the renovation of the Festac showroom. The new place I paid for, my plan is to move my workshop here permanently, then I use the front as the showroom while keeping the Festac town showroom too.

I have invested all my entire savings in keying down this place, now I need about 20million naira to set it up. The rent is reading already and also things are getting more expensive everyday 😭😭 This new level in my business will increase my monthly IGR for sure.

Now, this is where I need you all guys. I'm searching for investors!!! Please the least support you can give me now is to help me retweet this post widely. I have used all my money to rent the place😭😭. I needs funds to set up the showroom and also get more sewing machines. The new place is in the same building as @LotusBank ago Palace way branch.

After Medical school, i moved back in with my parents. Lived with them for 7 more years until I was almost 30 years.

Didn’t buy a Car. Worked several jobs, sometimes 2 jobs at the same time. Saved enough to write exams & move to the UK.
6 months salary in the UK was more than all my 7 years salary in Nigeria COMBINED.

When Eno Udoh's husband died in 1974, she refused advice to sell off his electronics business and took over the company with little experience at 21.

She inherited an empty bank account but in four years, she grew the business from a starting capital of ₦30,000 to ₦300,000.

I drilled my rich landlady’s borehole to see if I can find crude oil there 😬. I didn’t find the oil but I was able to get ahead.

Making sure I don't care about following the right part in business....I'll explain

Some years ago, I invested well over 3 million naira into a small oil and gas business, and struggled with it for about a year. Then Buhari's tenure came in, and I still continued to do the business with honesty and integrity but the small business wasn't moving forward due to bad government policies! So I spoke with someone who was doing well in the business and he gave me some wicked and crafty ideas on how to make millions. It was very hard to tow that part, but I had no choice!

To cut the long story short, before Buhari's tenure ended, I had made close to 130 million naira in profit. And today, following the same pattern, I can boast of a little over 200 million naira.

The truth is, if you want to make it in naija with this wicked government policies, you have to be cunning, ruthless, heartless and mischievous.

Going back to write WAEC and JAMB during NYSC and starting all over again. It paid off though: Jesus blessed the effort with a First Class degree, best graduating student of the department/faculty, fully funded doctoral fellowship in a R1 University in the US, to mention but a few. grin

Imagine having 8 uncles n aunties from my late dad's side in USA of which my dad is the eldest yet they refuse to assist us but instead prefer to assist outsiders.
Then one good year after coronal virus, one of them came back feeling not too strong n ask me to drive him about.
We went to the bank n he has huge sums in his Nigerian n dollar accounts. He wasnt ready to even assist me o but was giving thousands to people n one olosho girl he met.
Omo, i had to do the unthinkable. I 'took" his $5000 wen we went to the bank to withdraw (he wasn't even aware) n today dat singular act change my story and propel me to greatness.
Sometimes you got to take your destiny by force.i feel in our lifes, there are people God bless simply to bless u but the devil prevents it.
Sometimes too i feel God may allow a little evil (though he is not an evil God) to occur for a greater glory!

The $5000 was used wisely n today i knw who God says i am grin
