For over a century, the South has consistently generated more revenue than the North, largely due to its superior transportation access. |

South was joined together with the north to help bridge the gap between the two zones. North was poor from time immemorial compared to the south. It was the advise Lugard gave to the Queen. |

God will never forgive Britain for what they did to southern Nigeria by sabotaging it's future I think God sent karma to their society in form of leftist ideology with their cultural decay, Pakistanis, Afghans, extremist Muslims and criminal immigrants. |

In another 100years time the north would remain backward aside the middle belt region otherwise called North central. U say u dont take alcohol but u share revenues that comes from tax. U even go to the extent of destroying alcohol drinks Just to prove your wickedness. U say u dont invest in tobacco but ur people smoke more than any region in this country. Is that not haram too? Theses guys just love poverty since 1914. |

RemoveKebab:Better tell yourself the truth.. Britain did not put us under federalism. They put us under regionalism.. Nigeria problem started when Ironsi destroyed our regionalism out of greed.. |

| Re: The First Colonial Northern/ Southern Nigeria Revenue Profile Of 1914 by PulaPower: 7:33am On Sep 13, 2025 |
RemoveKebab:The amalgamation was to join the north / south.. It was never about destroying our regionalism.. |

PulaPower:whats the difference between joining and uniting two different distinct society Why can't they grant the two protectorate different autonomy Even the north did not support the joining because they knew it won't work. But the cunning Britain made sure their evil plan for the south did go to waste by designing them as the successor The Regionalism was just a scam to the south Remember north protectorate was more of military inclined While the south was more of economic inclined The Joining signed the faith of South to be subjugated to the North even by geography it was too obvious. Britain are famous for leaving disaster in a place they know you could be a threat to them in future India Pakistan Kashmir. The entire middle east after the fall of Ottoman empire and so on |

ibechris:Let's take a critical look at the revenue source as outlined in the table for a better understanding of the entirety of the tax revenue. As at the cradle of 19th century, the driver of trade and commerce was marine transportation, hence the coastal South with definitely have the edge alongside custom revenues. Moreover, the development of rail infrastructure started from the South, of course the revenue flow will tilt in her favor. The interesting matrix that requires further appraisal is the General Revenue Tax. |

RemoveKebab:Read your bolded above, read mine below. What have I said differently. Softmirror:While you claim the British persuaded the North to embrace a one Nigeria by telling them that they will be oga. Most political office and even military officers was run by the South especially of the Eastern extraction. |

We know the trybe who can’t stop blaming others for their problems, the people being blamed attempted to leave , but was forced back to the union |
| Re: The First Colonial Northern/ Southern Nigeria Revenue Profile Of 1914 by Hankim: 10:59am On Sep 13, 2025 |
That trybe who kept blaming, is doing it to escape their involvement and evil committed during the war. It’s called validation to avoid guilty conciseness |

Based on what I see up there, I can say the north contributed approximately 30% in revenue but over 60% in population. |

Softmirror:You are totally right @ bolded, above. In addition, these folks dominated all the civil services posts in the south including the western region. For instance, in the Nigerian Ports Authority, they occupied about 70% of the posts.I can only but imagine how those indigines must have felt being disenfrancise in their own space under the guise of One Nigeria. |

T9ksy:To the extent that Nnamdi Azikiwe also wanted to become the premier of western Region. |

RemoveKebab:Pray, expantiate further on the bolded, above. WHEN was the "Northernisation" policy extended, southwards? Also, WHO effected this policy in southern nigeria? |

RemoveKebab:The option to secede would have been included in the Nigeria constitution, it was Azikwe that was against it. Ojukwu and Ironsi fought Boro for seceding after Ironsi started tilting towards a unitary system of government |
| Re: The First Colonial Northern/ Southern Nigeria Revenue Profile Of 1914 by WesleyPepper: 5:01pm On Sep 13, 2025 |
Blame Azikwe and his folks . Even the North didn’t want your one Nigerian initially but the Ibos out of their greed gave one Nigeria to the Northerners. The British also colonized Malaya . Look at Malaysia and Singapore today . The British left regional government. The ibo/ Fulani alliance at independence gave us program , coup and a civil war and here we are today . For how long do we keep blaming the British. I’m in my early 30s and I refuse to get stuck with the blame game . Let’s take action to divide the country if we think that’s the best instead of parroting the British every time |
| Re: The First Colonial Northern/ Southern Nigeria Revenue Profile Of 1914 by Hankim: 6:10pm On Sep 13, 2025 |
It’s disgusting to see the same trybe k repeating the same thing over and over again over something happened almost 60 years ago, grandfather’s did the same thing, the children have also taken over and coming generations will continue where the fathers left, what do we call that other then physiological problem. How long do you want to keep on blaming others for every problem? Spit |

RemoveKebab:All these things you're saying is needless. If we want to blame Britain regarding Nigeria, we can.. But what I'm telling you is that Nigeria destruction began the moment Ironsi scrapped our regionalism! You can think whatever you want, but this is reality and whatever you think can't change the truth.. If Nigeria had maintain regionalism till date, things for don better than this! The problem of Nigeria isn't joining North / South. The problem of Nigeria was that the system that could work for North / South was destroyed. You saying north never wanted one Nigeria is another justification that Gowon didn't scrap our regionalism. It was Ironsi that did. North / West have always maintained the regionalism because it was really working then, for both regions.. The East was a less productive region then, hence why they felt frustrated. It was the main reason why they plot a coup cuz, to them, it was the only way for them to get power... After coup, Ironsi grabbed power and the first thing he did was to destroy the working system ( Regionalism ) - so that they'd be able to control from the center.. |
