It's an impressive thing to introduce the new Tax ID as it would help to streamline tax collections and remove the inneficiences in the older systems.

All over the world, citizens are required to pay taxes promptly from the United States, the United Kingdom, Singapore and Canada, etc, where taxes are VERY high. These are some of the countries some Nigerians like to use to measure their own country and leaders, BUT those citizens pay taxes for development whole a large number of Nigerians who should be paying taxes like to evade taxes and I remember that the former Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode did say that ONLY 500,000 Lagos State residents were paying taxes out of a 20 million population.
I MUST add that contrary to online opinions among some Nigerians, the funds or checks given to American citizens during the COVID-19 lockdowns WASN'T for free, but has to be paid back through taxes down the road.

Therefore, this move will make it easy for Nigerians to demand firmer accountability from their governments at different levels when they pay their taxes promptly. Period.

Don't mind those thieves. Till now I can't verify my Tax ID. They said an Ai upgrade is going on CAC website.
Fryx:
Last month, I needed a personal tax id as I don’t want to use my business tax id to open an account.

Can you believe I went to FIRS website to obtain my id and the website refuses to do what it was designed to do?

This is not the first time Nigerian government website has been proving useless. Especially CAC website, yet they will be shouting file your returns like they are doing their jobs themselves.

Let me see who will come and query me to give accountability. You will answer questions yourself.

How many functional industries does this country have?
Is there 24 hour electricity?
Is this country an export or import dependent nation?
You people should think before saying things out of hand
Infact the government of the day is basically destroying the economy with this move
Jeez!!!

This may not be possible because government needs you to have a tax ID so that you can be a taxable person. Government needs you to have it more than you need it.

To be frank, one of the reasons I supported him.
I remember discussing with my dad, and he was against him, I said he would make all of us to be interested in knowing who we want to elect as he is going to tax the air we breathe, everyone will get tired and start having interest in elective post.
Imagine going through all these during his tenure, then you queue to go vote for a Dino Melaye to start flaunting cars to you or the foolish NASS rubber stamping everything that comes their way.
I see him as a necessary evil, it's high time people in professional fields started having interest in governance at all level, let's reduce the population of career politicians in our administration

Listen... learn to read posts properly before responding to posts here. This is NOT a thread for you to spread disinformation or transfer aggression. If you have NOTHING BETTER to say, I propose you get off my mention!

By the way, under a new law signed this year, power supply has been decentralized so, each State can build it's own power plant and distribute, and hence achieve near-contrant power supply. Ogun State just built a power plant to boost power supply and things are looking up gradually. Same with Abia State.

With the new tax collection system, it will be more efficient and transparent for you folks in Nigeria and foreign-based Nigerians who have investments in Nigeria to pay taxes on time and reduce MULTIPLE TAXATIONS! These are NOT extra taxes or burdens being imposed on Nigerian citizens. Accountability would be taken more seriously and taxes would be used for what they are meant for. If NOT, you vote the politicians out during ever election cycle. That's the intention. Period.

Btw you still haven't answered the questions
1.Is your country industrialized?
2.Is there 24 hour power supply?
You can't tax people willy nilly in a country with an ailing economy
It's not done
And as per the new power law grin

I propose that you be calm, and things will pan out right depending on your perspectives to life. The continued focus on negative energy/imagery will ONLY bring back negative results because we live in a world of vibrational cause-and-effect. This is why I stay far away from those who relentlessly think and speak negativity. There's a constitutional amendment review coming up in Nigeria and hopefully, those geopolitical, security, and economic inneficiences that have slowed Nigeria down for decades will be sorted out as well.

That's all I will say here and now.

What else do you need to know...

All inflow into your account will be considered income and will be taxable unless you can show otherwise. So you'll need to have an accountant to file your taxes ...the smarter your accountant , the less your tax liability will be!

Make sure anyone sending you money references it properly else it will be considered income and once income exceeds 800k a year, you are taxed.
Do you think if one has sizable savings it should be moved abroad before January?
What do you think? Let it be that they will see someone's stash and the decide to over tax the person.

I'm this same spirit, the electoral reform MUST be enforced now to clarify electronic due process and transparency of elections in Nigeria else this government be scrapped. This criminality is excessive already. We almost don't know how a sane country is like anymore in Nigeria.

Do you run a business, earn income, or plan to open an investment account in Nigeria?
Did you know you’ll soon need a Tax ID for banking, insurance, and pensions?
What happens if you don’t get one before January 1, 2026?
The new Tax Acts are here to ensure fairness, everyone who earns taxable income contributes, while protecting low-income citizens. But first, you need a Tax ID.
