FG To Feed 50 Million Pupils In 2026 by ogododo(op): 9:22am On Sep 14, 2025
The Federal Government has said it is working to expand the National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme to 50 million primary school pupils in 2026.

Aderemi Adebowale, National Programme Manager, National Social Investment Programme Agency disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja.

We are working to include early years – primary 1 to 3, primary 4 to 6 – in the school feeding programme, and also out-of-school children, which we are handling step by step to integrate.

“So, by the year 2026, we are looking at feeding close to 50 million pupils in primary school in Nigeria.

Ideally, school feeding should be between N500 to N1,000 per child.

“Even at N500 per child, you should be able to still give the children a nutritious and delicious meal on a daily basis
,” she said.

Adebowale added that the agency controlled the price through the formation of an alignment of small-holder farmers, aggregators, supply chain and developing partners.

“With this alignment, we’ll be able to control price from the rock bottom. We are not going to be doing market prices.

“So, we have to agree on prices from our suppliers, agri-vendors and farmers to arrive at a reasonable cost per plate.

Once we do that, we will follow up on the payment and service delivery,” she said.

NAN recalls that on May 27, 2025, the Federal Government inaugurated the Alternate Education and Renewed Hope National Home-Grown School Feeding Project, aiming to provide meals for 20 million out-of-school and underserved children by 2026.

The initiative was inaugurated in Abuja by the former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda.

Yilwatda is the current National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Party.

The programme was rolled out through the Renewed Hope National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme in partnership with the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children Education and the National Identity Management Commission.

Yilwatda had highlighted the programme as one of the key components of the National Social Investment Programme Agency, introduced to mark President Bola Tinubu’s second year in office.

Borrowing to feed people who havent asked you to so when votes are diverted, they have an excuse to say was the reason for massive votes. Add useless project that swells their pocket to it and the criplling effect of the debt funding the three pronged disaster.

Another shameless hogwash fantasy propaganda from the destroyers of Nigeria.

Nigeria’s primary school enrollment is barely 30 million, and the government can’t even feed the current 10 million adequately. N500 per child for a “nutritious” meal? Laughable! That’s a recipe for watery beans and stale bread. The “alignment” of farmers and suppliers is just jargon for cronies skimming profits. The 2025 “inauguration” reeks of recycled promises, timed conveniently for political optics. Tinubu’s regime can’t fix roads or power or education or hospitals, yet they’re promising feasts for kids? This is propaganda dressed as policy—empty, deceptive, and insulting to Nigerians’ intelligence.

Is this what we really want
We need well equipped schools not feeding
Access to good libraries and well equip laboratories, computers based learning not some feeding scams
Re: FG To Feed 50 Million Pupils In 2026 by Almunjid: 2:06pm On Sep 14, 2025
Every levelheaded Nigerian knows that school feeding programs are veiled opportunity for corruption and misuse of funds. grin While providing nutritious meals to students is commendable, the resources allocated to such programs could be better utilized in infrastructure development. Parents, guardians, and families can take on the responsibility of providing their children with nutritious meals, while redirecting the funds towards improving school facilities, classroom equipment, and overall learning environment. This could significantly enhance the quality of education, fostering student success and ultimately contributing to societal progress. It's crucial to advocate for a transparent and efficient allocation of public funds, prioritizing initiatives that yield long-term benefits for communities and future generations.

Peace!

Feeding 50m pupils by 2026? 🤡 Which country abeg? These people can’t even keep teachers in class or fix leaking roofs, but suddenly trillions will appear for daily rice & beans. We know the script: announce big numbers, loot the funds later. Nigerians are not mumu.

You are a wiseman sir.

School feeding and other palliative food are not the answer to a comatose economy. Jobs are the answer.

The looting and corruption of Oshiomhole’s Association of Past Criminals, APC makes PDP politicians look like saints.

How can they remove subsidy for $84 billion savings and have increased taxes for August revenue target, but still borrow more than previous presidents? Who will solve this riddle huh

socialmediaman:
The 2018 Rating by Transparency International placed Nigeria at 148th position out of 180 countries. Nigeria was improving over the years under the previous government, until Buhari got elected as president, things became worse.

There is a difference between fact and fiction. We need to face facts, Buhari is worse than GEJ when it comes to fighting corruption, at least that’s what the facts prove.

Most of us believed there was corruption under Goodluck Jonathan’s Government. I agree with those who did, there was corruption, but not as bad as it is today under Mohammadu Buhari.

In 2012, Nigeria was placed at 139th position, In 2014, Nigeria gained 3 steps and was placed at 136th position. Under Buhari, Nigeria has lost many positions down to 148th.

There’s no further proof needed that corruption has worsened under Buhari’s government compared to previous years.

Hmmmm.

Project Breakdown.
1. N500 per meal/day.
2. 50 million students.
3. 5 days/week (Monday - Friday).
4. 36 weeks (3 terms @ 12 weeks/term).

Total cost per year.
= N500 × 50 million students × 5 days/week × 36 weeks
= N 4.5 trillion.

Again, hmmmm. #shaking my head#

The political class want people to remain in poverty. Why not rehabilitate schools, furnish libraries and generally improve conditions of learning?

Nepal on my mind.
