Tragedy struck in the Alagomeji area of Yaba, Lagos State, as a four-storey building under construction collapsed, leaving one person dead and several others rescued. Eyes Of Lagos reports,
Rescue Efforts Underway

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) confirmed that the body of a male victim was recovered from the rubble during ongoing search and rescue operations.

In an official statement, NEMA said:

"Search and rescue operation is still ongoing at the building collapse scene. NEMA, LASEMA, Fire Services, Police, FRSC and NSCDC are on ground. The number of persons rescued remains four; they are in stable condition. No additional person has been rescued at the time of this report but there is speculation of two more persons under the rubbles.”

Shortly after, the agency gave an update confirming that one body had been retrieved from the debris while operations continue to ensure no one is left trapped.
Lagos Fire Service: Eight Workers Rescued

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Fire Service reported that eight construction workers were rescued alive from the collapsed site. They have since been handed over to emergency medical teams for treatment.

Every Tom , Dick and Harry is building multi storey structures in Lagos which actually makes sense seeing the amount of people we have and the limited land....however Lagos State government must be awake to their duties to regulate as our councils and local governments are utter failures (like the rest of the country).

Please, Lagos State, you need to work and show you are a leader before you allow the typical Nigerian greed to kill more and more innocent
souls.

Lagos soil is not that strong to accommodate storey building with block and concrete. So so sad.

Government should ban storey building except you meet minimum standard and the standard must high
