That would be the work of his wife. According to my own perception, Christianity and Islam are no longer foreign to Yoruba culture. A practice that is in place for 100s of years is no longer strange it is a culture.

Ironically, the first Nominee was said to be rejected because he's seen as too northern and was raised in Kaduna
Only for the imposed one to make Sokoto his first port of call after inauguration

The question is is the throne the Alaafin sitting on not for his Royal Highness Chief Gabriel? It was the Alafin that visited Benin and out of respect the Oba of Benin relinquished his throne to the Alaafin as a mark of symbolic respect and cultural affiliation to the Oyo empire. So the throne with Jesus' statue is not for the Oyo king Alaafin Owoade.

I'm not sure how going to see one of the top traditional rulers makes him a muslim.

With the way he is treating Ooni he probably felt the Sultan is the only one on his level.
