When will Nigerian governors learn to build streets and roads without open gutters...?

These things show the laziness on the part of the government, imagine still constructing open gutters in the major roads in the 21st century whereby underground drainage systems have taken over the whole world...
I agree with you bro, but in nigeria, it still creates a problem. For Instance, in Marina lagos island, the gutters are fully covered, but we see people pissing around the covered gutters leaving the whole place so smelly that you are left to think that government should just leave the gutters open

The City of Johannesburg’s busiest road, Lilian Ngoyi Street, was finally reopened after two years of repairs.

One person died and 48 others were injured in the explosion when the major corridor, formerly known as Bree Street, was split in two by a massive gas explosion during peak hour traffic on 20 July 2023.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TFsezAtqolE?si=cVrGpLNqWGk2CxhA

Businesses and commuters were severely affected by missed deadlines, as the repair work took nearly 26 months to complete, which was double the initial deadline.

The newly reconstructed road, between Loveday Street and End Street, will be a one-way street travelling eastbound.

The road has been resurfaced with paving bricks, moving away from traditional tarred surfaces.

The JMPD said it appreciates the public’s cooperation and patience during the rehabilitation period and urged continued vigilance as everyone adjusts to the new road layout.
That was of earthquake proportions.

It is the duty of the government to provide public sanitary systems whereby citizens can access and when there are defaulters, they are punished either through fine or jail time or both.

It is this way that many countries you see with beautiful and neat environments get to achieve that...

Come to Asokoro, Maitama, Guzape etc in Abuja... There is no open sewage or gutters there and it is maintained and people use it with the fear of not knowing what may happen to them if they throw any dirt indiscriminately.

These places are not the only ones we can have in Nigeria with neatness close to 98%,if the government prioritize public health and sanitation, you will see improvements.

Open gutters in the streets and major roads is a sign of lazy thinking in governance!

Is it not the responsibility of the government to provide proper waste disposal and management systems for its citizenry?

When these things are provided, it will not be hard for the citizens to adapt to/or adopt these systems. When these systems are provided, government may now jail or fine defaulters who chose to neglect these systems.

The world has grown beyond open gutters on streets and major roads. Even Abuja hardly has open gutters except you go to the suburbs like Nyanya, Karu, Kubwa, etc..

Anywhere you call a City is not supposed to have these open gutters except in Nigeria cities...

Elusive001:
When will Nigerians learn proper waste disposal? The cost of freeing a clogged closed drain is high. Let’s Nigerians stop indiscriminate dumping of refuse and throwing refuse everywhere first.

Sorry, that's called a SLUM.

Every slum 'will be demolished' as Africa rises. Not just in South Africa, so don't separate them.

Everyone pays bills everywhere. Say you love Nigeria because it's a familiar environment, not because it's better than South Africa.

When you travel outside Nigeria, you will begin to understand how corruption has under developed the country in all segments of Nigeria. Our standards in this country are terribly low. Sadly, those standards are being celebrated regularly by corrupt politicians and their supporters. Make no mistake about this: our national infrastructure is nothing to write home about compared to our contemporaries around the world. I have been to Europe, Canada, US and Southern Africa, Southern Africa countries are miles ahead of other parts of Africa in terms of infrastructural development
Apart from south africa, name 2 more southern african countries you HAVE BEEN to that is better than Nigeria
Re: Jo'burg Street That Exploded In 2023 Finally Refurbished, Reopened (Video, Pics) by PlayerMeji: 8:34am On Sep 15, 2025
Then because of that government should start digging open gutters everywhere because of manhole cover theft?

If we go by your submission, government should stop everything government is doing because of corruption nah.. Because after the tenure of every government, what you will hear is the amount of billions stolen by that government but in spite of that, government keeps working every day...

I know it's unrelated but I am just trying to let you see the picture that government has the power to enforce sanity anywhere if they want to but because of their lazy thinking, they chose not to...

Hahaha.. you're literally proving my point... You have to bring your capital city to compare with a tiny South African township It's because you know you can't compare.. Abuja is equivalent to a small town in South Africa..nothing special here. Bring your townships or hoods and compare them with Soweto. Oranges with Oranges... because Waterfall city in South Africa alone will make Abuja look like a slum, never mind Cape Town.. grin grin .. for your sake, let's stick to townships..

Actually.. lemme do this, let's compare Soweto's infrastructure with your country.. as a whole..I wanna see something grin grin grin
I'll start..
Here's a stadium in Soweto (a mere township). Show me anything better in your country ...

The problem with debating people like you is that you tell lies with smiley emojis, which is so irritating.

Abuja is a city of 5 million people, so it is not “like a small town in South Africa”.

You have STILL not shown us BLACK WEALTH in South Africa.

Don’t show off with your apartheid-era infrastructure or rich white neighbourhoods.

They have nothing to do with you.

LOL.. Which lies did I tell? Because i posted pictures and vidoes, how did those lie? Someone posted of shacks and created the impression that Soweto is this destitute place when it's not..

Now, I said, compare your hoods with South African ones. You're writing epistles as a deflection. Here's the hard truth.. South African townships/ hoods, never mind cities, have better amenities than your whole country. Bitter pill to swallow, I know... Soweto's road infrastructure alone is better than anything you have in Nigeria..

Which wealth must I show? You mean I should show Black people with Lambios and Mercs? grin grin You think those don't exist..? Those exist even in our townships. Dude, an average Black South African is more prosperous. What are you on about?

Abuja.. looks like a small town by South African standards, that's what I meant.... There's nothing special there. Apart from Abuja or Lagos, what else do you have? Kano, Enugu, Owerri, Anambra? Our villages look better than these, sorry
