. It's very impossible to even claim he was a billionaire back then when Nigeria as a whole didn't Worth more than 4-5B naira as at then.......

Believe them at your own riisk..
Even Nigeria's national budget in 1965 was £184million (with revenue of £160million). There was no single individual billionaire in Africa until late 1970s/early 1980s.

I’ve got a free day, so I’ll keep educating you hopefully ignorance will leave you.

When you hear that something is an estimate, it means it won’t be an exact figure instead, it will fall within a range. Estimates are used when the exact value is unknown or when different sources give conflicting figures.

There are two main types of estimates:
1. Tight estimate =a small range.

2. Broad estimate =a large range.

In the case of Louis Ojukwu’s wealth, the $4 billion to $40 billion figure is clearly a broad estimate.

Next time I'll be taking fees
angry
How's it possible when the richest man in the world then was worth just a billion dollars ?

Lmfao.

Ojukwu really play una shege
Now it makes sense that he not only came back to Nigeria and was pardoned, he openly campaigned for Sheu Shagari , a Fulani man, He was flat broke
The money he thought he had successfully pilfered was useless

Reno is once again busy herding his flock of anti-Igbo goats and sheep who don't think for themselves or research any garbage that Reno dish out to them.

I stopped reading Reno’s tissue of lies the moment he claimed that Sir Louis Ojukwu was not a billionaire in his lifetime.

I usually don’t respond to Reno, but as always, when a lie goes unchallenged, it overshadows the truth.

Sir Louis Ojukwu once rejected the offer to become Nigeria’s Finance Minister. He was the only man in Africa to provide substantial support to Britain during World War II, a contribution that later earned him the title of Knight of the British Empire. This strategic investments during WWII (providing trucks and logistics to Britain) gave him direct access to colonial contracts and land holdings.

Louis Ojukwu's wealth was so vast that the Lagos State Government once seized many of his properties — it took the intervention of the Court of Appeal to order the return of some of them including the prized one on Queen’s Drive.

Sir Louis Odumegwu Ojukwu:
Nigeria’s First Billionaire and Business Pioneer

Early Life & Education
Born in 1909 in Obiuno Umudim, Nnewi (present-day Anambra State), Ojukwu attended primary school in Asaba and advanced to the Hope Waddell Training Institute in Calabar .

He began his working life as a tyre sales clerk with John Holt in Lagos in 1929 .

Entrepreneurial Beginnings
Observing trade patterns among Igbo merchants who purchased textiles alongside tyres—he launched Ojukwu Stores in Onitsha.

In 1930, he acquired a used truck and founded the Ojukwu Transport Company, filling a critical gap in transportation for traders along the East–West axis .

Growing Empire & World War II Support
By World War II, his fleet had expanded impressively. He supplied his trucks to support British war efforts, earning him a KBE (Knight of the British Empire) .

Post-war economic expansion propelled his business further; by the 1950s, his transport enterprise boasted hundreds of trucks.

Diversification & Corporate Reach
He diversified across industries
Textiles, real estate, shipping, finance, and beyond. He founded Ojukwu Textiles and invested heavily in real estate .

Ojukwu also held key roles in several major institutions:

First President of the Nigerian Stock Exchange

President of the African Continental Bank

Director in corporations such as:
Shell Nigeria
Guinness Nigeria
Nigerian Coal Corporation
John Holt
Nigerian National Shipping Line
Nigerian Cement Factory, and many others.

Symbol of Prestige & Philanthropy
Owning the first Rolls-Royce in Nigeria, it was notable that his Silver Wraith was used to chauffeur Queen Elizabeth II during her 1956 visit .

He also dedicated himself to civic service.
He supported Nnamdi Azikiwe’s NCNC and was later offered the role of Finance Minister in 1960 but he declined.
He chaired development bodies like the Eastern Region Development Corporation .

Wealth, Demise
At his passing in 1966, Ojukwu's net worth was estimated at $4 billion to $40 billion in today’s terms, making him Nigeria’s first billionaire.

In the context of journalism, when a journalist uses the word “reportedly” in an article, it means:

The information came from a reliable source or report rather than direct first hand personal encounter by the journalist.
The journalist did not personally witness the fact but is relying on other credible sources.
Make una rest
grin grin grin

Wrong. In journalism "sources" are known even when their identity have not been disclosed it is information coming from known persons. e.g. Sources say just like Reuters said "India's SEBI expedites IPO approvals, sources say, as record fundraising eyed"

When "sources" are used these are people that should know or would know. It is not reportedly said but the information came from known people or trusted sources. What is "reportedly" is what is general knowledge but may or may not be a fact or unverified by the reporter i.e the reporter cannot cite a particular source of this information other than a common knowledge

Was Louis Ojukwu buying arms for Britain?

One incredulous lie that I now recall coming out from IPOB was that Louis ojukwu was murdered by British agents because they did not at to repay him the billions of pounds he borrowed Britain to fight WW2.

Some thing is very wrong in the air and water down there.

You said in your last post that Louis Ojukwu was worth billions in naira .

Note that the Nigerian currency at independence was the Nigerian Pounds and it was being traded on the international market at slightly lower than the British Pounds and worth almost double the value of the USD.

That would have made Louis Ojukwu a billionaire in dollars and even pounds going by your billions estimate of the man's wealth.

How is thus possible when Nigeria's entire GDP and gross earnings was not worth billions back then?

You see how you can't even craft a descent lie?

Even at that how come no one outside Nigeria and British colonial settings knew Louis Ojukwu as a billionaire?

Even Forbes did not recognise him as one .

Wrong! In journalism, common knowledge refers to facts or information that are widely known, informations that are not controversial, that are easily verifiable and generally accepted by the public, so they don’t require attribution or sourcing in a news report.
Adding “reportedly” to a common knowledge fact can mislead readers.
No journalist will add reportedly to a common knowledge fact.

I recall ipob claiming that Sir Louis Ojukwu was murdered by agents of the British govt because they owed him billions of pounds that he learnt them during WW2 to fight the Germans.

Maybe you should go and drag the British govt on behalf of Ojukwu's estate to repay the loan he gave them with compound interest and to pay reparations for his assassination while tendering an unreserved apology to the Ojukwu family and all ibos worldwide.

Ipob even claimed that this was why Britain supported Nigeria ainst Biafra so that Ojukwu jnr will not drag them to the ICJ.

I see you conveniently left out the part where your grandfathers stole everything that belonged to Sir Louis Ojukwu under the wicked lie that his son would use it to fund the Biafran war. Everyone knows Louis Ojukwu was pro-Nigeria and pro-British and never supported Biafran secession — yet that didn’t stop them from looting him dry.

And isn’t it funny how some of your grandfathers suddenly became rich right after the civil war without any known business, industry or legitimate enterprise?

We should all pretend like we don't know where that “wealth” came from.

The ethnic tensions being stoked today are nothing but a repeat of the same old playbook to provoke unrest, push Igbos out and grab their properties just like they did to Sir Louis and countless other Igbos during and after the war...well, that will never happen.

Before you spin conspiracy tales about British loans, start by explaining how your lineage profited from another man’s sweat and why history seems to be repeating itself.
Explain why Lagos State Government went all the way to the Supreme Court just to take over Louis Ojukwu's property.

Ojukwu was wealthy but his achievements could never, and at no time tower the Dantata Dynasty.

And at that period, 1940, 50's, and 60's. The biggest was "The Ibru Family".

At one time, Louis Odumegwu offered Ojukwu $40,000 pounds to take over the already dwindling family business of transportation which had already met stiff competition. Louis Odumegwu never owned any business besides his transportation business; his a director on several boards of companies; but never had any significant holdings in them.

Trying to discredit a reputable media outlet just to fit your bias is not very intelligent.
It’s almost comical that despite mountains of verifiable evidence, you stubbornly choose ignorance.

Stop the lies.
The facts remains indelible Louis Philip Odumegwu Ojukwu was already a verified billionaire in the 1960s, long before fake blogs even existed.

Ojukwu’s wealth wasn’t based on gossip. Multiple international financial and news outlets in the 1960s referenced him as one of the richest men in Africa. These reports were written decades before Reno ever opened his mouth on social media.

Sir Louis Ojukwu was the first African to be on the board of Shell BP, Chairman of the Nigerian Stock Exchange and owner of the biggest transport and trading empire in West Africa. His companies owned fleets of trucks, ships and real estate across Nigeria. He strategically supported Britain during world war II by providing logistics and was compensated after.
These are documented facts in Nigerian government records, newspapers and archives

Ojukwu was wealthy in Nnewi or the eastern region. Like you will say richest man of Eastern extraction, which is currently Arthur Eze (verified). That is what Ojukwu's dad was at that time. Louis Ojukwu transport business started in Lagos in 1937, while Dantata was already in business with UAC in the 1920's, where he was the largest grain supplier with a 500,000 pound credit line. Dantata also joined the transport business.

In the transport business Ojukwu at the height (1950's) had some 200 vehicles, while Dantata Transport had 600 vehicles.

People like to claim Ojukwu was bastard rich. No, he only owned a single business and sat on the board of several successful companies. Yes, he dabbled in real estate and construction but nothing he owned. Dantata owned business, and was also on the board of businesses including Shell.

People claim Ojukwu's will was conveniently forgotten/abandoned in Enugu government house when the Nigerian troops attacked when the Biafra secessionist was afoot. IBB brought Gen. Ojukwu (Ojukwu's son) back to Nigeria after he fled to Ivory Coast during the war. IBB gave Ojukwu back all his properties. Where are they?

Like I said, Louis Ojukwu offered Gen. Ojukwu 40,000 pounds his total earnings from one year as director in various companies. Remember Louis Ojukwu was also Chairman African Continental Bank. But, Gen. Ojukwu has other plans; why take over his fathers assets when he could take over the entire region which he did.

It’s mischievous and historically out of context to compare Louis Ojukwu with Alhassan Dantata. Yes, Dantata was extremely wealthy...richer than Louis Ojukwu but he died in 1955 before Nigeria’s independence.
His fortune was then split among his children, his wealth was no longer concentrated in the control of one person.
while Louis Ojukwu was still alive and consolidating his empire. That’s why by 1960,
Sir Louis Ojukwu was recognized as the richest man in Nigeria his businesses were intact, diversified, and expanding.

Louis Ojukwu was never just a transporter with 200 vehicles. He was a banker, industrialist, and investor with vast holdings across multiple sectors transport, real estate, banking (Chairman of African Continental Bank), textiles, shipping, and construction. He provided Britain with support during world war II which gave him access to colonial contracts and land holdings outside Nigeria.

He was a director in Shell, Guinness, Nigeria National Shipping Line and many other
His name appeared in Forbes and colonial business records as one of Africa’s wealthiest men.

As for his properties, it’s dishonest to pretend they disappeared into thin air. During and after the civil war, the Nigerian government shamelessly stole all his money, assets all over the country. With the excuse that his son Ojukwu will use them to fund Biafra.
In Lagos, they even dragged ownership of one of his estates with his children after the war all the way to the Supreme Court.....publicly available court documents prove this.
Many of his Eastern properties were also stolen in Calabar and port harcourt or misappropriated under the abandoned property policy.
Many government buildings, barracks and skyscrapers you see today in some Nigerian cities once belonged to Sir Louis Ojukwu.

The reality is simple Sir Louis Ojukwu was Nigeria’s first recorded billionaire in pounds, the wealthiest man of his time and one of the richest Nigerians ever...He will continue to inspire generations.

Trying to reduce his legacy to a few lorries or to erase it entirely because of political bias won’t change the historical record.

Same Awolowo that tried to include a secession clause in the constitution and he met a very stiff resistance from Nnamdi Azikiwe
I think your leaders in Yorubaland deliberately keep you ignorance. When the East was ready to walk out of Nigeria, it was Awolowo himself who stood up and said the East must never be allowed to secede. He knows fully well that Nigeria will cease to exist without the east.
This are his exact words

"The Eastern Region must be encouraged to remain part of the Federation.
If the Eastern Region is allowed by acts of omission or commission to secede from or opt of Nigeria, then Western Region and Lagos must also stay out of the Federation"—Awolowo

See as u just jam wall from the beginning because I am neither Yoruba nor even a southerner.

* Since when did Awololowo's words supersede the constitution of Nigeria.
* Nnamdi Azikiwe said worse than that when Northern Nigeria (particularly some parts North East) wanted to break away and join up with their kit and kin in Chad
* Namdi Azikiwe threatened northern Nigeria with war if it tried to secede
* Aguyi Ironsi using Emeka Ojukwu waged a war, captured and jailed Adaka Boro when he tried to break away from Nigeria
* Emeka Ojukwu using predominantly Igbo soldiers captured Adaka Boro when he tried to break away and form Niger Delta republic
* Azikiwe vehemenlty rejected it when Awolowo tried to include a secession clause into the constitution.
* Namdi Azikiwe and Ben Nwabueze wrote the aspects of the constitution that made it a treasonable offence if anyone or group of people tried to break away from Nigeria
* Aguyi -Ironsi with the help of Igbo officers and professors wrote and promulgated degree 34 that ensured all powers are in the hands of the federal government of Nigeria. Decree 34 effectively destroyed regional governments in Nigeria

Finally, it is too late to change history
