It was the Alafin that visited Benin and out of respect the Oba of Benin relinquished his throne to the Alaafin as a mark of symbolic respect and cultural affiliation to the Oyo empire. So the throne with Jesus' statue is not for the Oyo king Alaafin Owoade.

That is at Chief Igbinedion's house, not Alafin's palace. Igbinedion put the Christian symbol there,

Igbinedion is one of the very few Benin chiefs who was able to complete their entire chieftaincy celebration rites, in the 1970s. The full ceremony/rites is so rare that the BBC came to document it back then. He achieved the Iyahien status of full title rites.

It would cost around 10 billion Naira to do today. Since chieftaincy in Benin is not given because of wealth, only few who get it have such big money. Those who would normally have the money to do it, don't qualify for chieftaincy in Benin tradition.

Completing that full rite made Oba grant Chief Igbinedion the rights to use certain symbols you see in his house.
