This is the fate of majority of the mansions people build in the villages. Cant be sold, too expensive to maintain when the owners dies, the children are abroad or lagos/abuja/ph based and dont have strong connections to the village. But hey am still a poor man so i may not understand 😀

I don't understand why people build super structures like this in the village when a simple 3 or 4 bedroom flat would have been enough, and easily be let out thereafter. Look at how this mansion has turned to a relic and eyesore, wasting away. Who is going to live inside? This structure is going to be desolate forever because it is too massive to be renovated and occupied by a single individual. Infact, it can comfortably house all the entire population of Ezinifite .

That is the problem with most houses in Igbo land. Same thing happen in Ijebu too because after the demise of the owner, family left can't be able to take care of the structure.

Exactly. Same question I asked a friend who recently invested in building a mansion in the east. A man well established in the US, all his kids born there, schooled and have started working. Yes he says some day he will retire to naija, but will that happen? Will he sell his business (legecy) in the US to return to naija? Ok even if he does come, when he passes on what happens to that mansion? Buildings so personalized they cannot be sold.
Omo, last last all those mansions in the east na villagers go claim am.

It's a shame to see houses of prominent persons go in ruins in Igbo land..

They should demolish this concrete cemetery and use the rubbles to do filling of potholes in the community road.
