Pay Pensioners since we reached our Revenue Targets - Obi Tells Tinubu by etokhana(op): 2:18pm On Sep 17, 2025
I read with deep concern that our pensioners, men and women who gave the most productive years of their lives in service to our country, have been pushed to contemplate a nationwide protest over unpaid arrears.

Just last month, Mr. President announced that Nigeria had reached its revenue target. If that is true, then the moral question is simple: why are our senior citizens, who worked, served, and sacrificed, still owed their rightful pensions and gratuities? Revenue growth should first reflect in the lives of the people, especially those in difficult times.

The excess revenue we celebrate today must not remain on paper. It must be directed to settle our obligations to pensioners, to restore their dignity, and to assure the working population that Nigeria values their labour and service. Anything less is unjust and unacceptable.
Good Leadership and compassion are inseparable.

Tinubu saying that we've met our revenue target might just be the greatest blunder of his after "subsidy is gone"

It's like telling your children that you have 29 billion Naira in your house but you've refused to give them food and pay their school bills.

It's a dilemma now for the government. Do we say we didn't meet out revenue target or do we jus ignore and let our zombies fight the fight.

Tinubu was obviously not prepared for his job

How can you declare that revenue target has been met when the nation hasn't even felt the goodness of the target

Now he will need to explain to us why things still slow like this

Well, that's not a bad request. Now that we have excess, his Excellency should do the justification by paying the pensioners

Good. There should be no room for unpaid pension since we have met our revenue target for the year.

Nigeria: Pensioners Urge Tinubu to Pay Arrears

26 March 2003
This Day (Lagos)

Lagos — Pension teachers in Lagos State under the aegis of Teacher Pensioners of Nigeria (TEPAN) have urged Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to review his stance on paying the harmonised three year old outstanding pension allowance or risk losing their votes.

In a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of TEPAN, Mr. Ayodabo 'Lade, accused Tinubu of failing to pay the arrears to teachers on their correct pension grade since the year 2000, contrary to what was obtainable in other five States of the South-west controlled by the Alliance for Democracy (AD).

The eyesore on Bourdillon Road
2nd January 2025

Beyond his neighbours, there is something about the sight of people hanging around a president’s residence that does not speak well of his leadership capabilities. Maybe no one has nudged him to see it, but the impression that spectacle on Bourdillon Road generates is that Tinubu enjoys the sight of suffering humans and thrives in—and through— their poverty.

If all these years, impoverished people hang around you and you remain comfortable enough to keep them just so they can be handed tokens of your large heart, then it means you have a pro-poverty mindset. Such a frame of mind is oriented toward cultivating poverty rather than stimulating abundance.

That is why he could unproblematically relate the story of his “friend” who went from using five Rolls Royce to a far-less valued car and not consider the import of the nonsense he was saying. That spurious account was an indication that this is a man for whom poverty—of others, not himself—is an ideal.

Okay... So, what is your point?!!

Should the pensioners not get paid?!! Cos, that's the point of the whole thread.

I still don't get how Obi becoming or never becoming President matters to lowly Nigerian citizens like you...!

None of the Presidents that have led this nation in history have made direct impacts in your life or lives of your entire generation.
Re: Pay Pensioners since we reached our Revenue Targets - Obi Tells Tinubu by TheBizGenius: 5:27pm On Sep 17, 2025
This is the only issue I seem to have with Peter Obi and his comments.

Pensioners are in 4 categories;
1. Local government
2. State government
3. Federal government
4. Federal government joint venture/equity based business entities

Federal government has FULL CONTROL over Number 1. ONLY!!!.

Peter Obi should clarify this AND also help us call out the other 3 categories.

But I appreciate him for this anyway.

PS
I might be totally wrong and the federal government is in charge of all pensions though. If I am, please, call me out and I will duly apologize for my comment.

Anambra doctors call off strike after 13 months
February 28, 2012

After over a year of down tools, Anambra State Government employed medical doctors have finally called of strike.
According to Dr. Emma Ekwesianya, Chairman Anambra State chapter of Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), the striking doctors decided to pick up tools again because of the plight of the ordinary people in the societ.
“It is true, we have called off the strike. We have just signed the agreement with government about an hour ago. The Secretary to the State Government (SSG) signed for the government. A technical committee, headed by Prof. O.O. Mbonu was set up to execute the agreement.” He confirmed.

“We decided to take the 60 per cent offered by government because of our people. Government has been rigid and we do not want to continue with the rigidity of government. We are serving the people, not government and our people are suffering.”
Speaking further, Ekwesianya, revealed that a technical committee, headed by Prof. O.O. Mbonu had also been set up by the association to see to the implementation of the agreement with government sequel to the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Peter Obi-led government on Monday.

Chief Medical Director, Anambra State University Teaching Hospital (ASUTH), Amaku, Awka, Dr. Lawrence Ikeakor also confirmed the new development: “Well I’m happy to tell you that the strike has been amicably resolved, even though, like you said, it’s been a prolonged one but suffice it to say that it has been resolved and the doctors have resumed work.”
“The call off was yesterday (Sunday). The doctors had some negotiations and held their congress yesterday, during which they agreed to call off the strike. So they resumed duty today.
They are in their clinic. Well, I was not privy to the agreement but I will say that our representatives were satisfied with the arrangement, hence they decided to call off the strike.” He disclosed.

He has every right to his political opinion, but that doesn’t diminish the economic validity of the idea he presented at that time. What you really need to consider is this: How will you fund government palliatives and interventions during a period of sharply reduced income and global turmoil—when you can’t immediately access loan markets, yet your people need support now? Every country faced this challenge and mostly responded by printing money. If you have a better solution, please share it—we’d all love to learn from you.

He would rather order for a new giant yacht to be stationed at "The Gaza Tiveria" than do so.
Dude has never been held accountable for once. They have been cheering him on all the way from Alausa as he taxed the life out of a struggling generation.

In all these times, he has bought several private jets and beachfront mansions and yachts...
Yet, the quantity of the poor have always grown in astonishing numbers anywhere he has ruled.

Any leader that is not held accountable by his political base will ultimately end up a despot, because all you have done by praising him as he blunders through, is to saturate a kwarupt politician with elastic power..
Tinubu is a typical example..
