This news brings me old memories...

When I was 7 or so, I saw some young guys mobilize against some group of bad boys who were terrorising my street. Those criminals robbed homes and raped ladies with reckless abandon. The day one of them was identified, the street guys mobilized and decided to take the laws into their hands. They dragged him to the roadside where they could lynch him without the police arresting anyone. The road ran across a bridge.

They put a tyre round his neck, pour petrol on him and set him ablaze. The guy was crying like a baby while he burnt for about 20 minutes. He gradually closed his eyes. Everyone thought he was dead but he was only pretending.

When he couldn't stand the fire anymore, he ran as fast as his legs could carry him and jumped off the road into the river. Just think of someone being burnt on 3rd Mainland Bridge jumping into the river to escape from the scene.

The moment he landed into the river, the water quenched the fire and he ran into the nearby neighborhood. The guys (up to 30) chased after him instantly. He ran into the house of a top police officer living in the area.

Then, there was no GSM, so the officer couldn't make a call for backup. He resorted to begging the guys. The guys insisted that they must go with him because the dreaded criminal had already seen their faces and they were going to pay direly for trying to kill him.

The officer pleaded for more than 30 minutes, but the guys wouldn't agree. Afterwards, he handed over the guy to them. They took him back to the spot where he ran away from and burnt him with 2 tyres on his neck. This time, they made sure he burnt to ashes. When the siren of the police blared, they all ran away, including my little self 😀

That was the first time I witnessed someone being nécklaced and watched the entire process. I will never ever forget that experience and this guy running away reminded of that fateful day.

If someone is tied up before the beating, how would he protect his head from being hit? The kind that could lead to death.
