This goes to show you the level of politics in this oil sector, imagine what a single individual could achieve under few years. High time we start holding our leaders accountable
It's not just about an individual (leader) but a culture of corruption and stealing, especially public office holders (civil servant), in fact the citizens as a whole.
We truly need reorientation

It will only be the beginning, dangote move will emboldened other net worth individuals to think big.

Someone like Peter OBI can upgrade form being an inporter to manufacturer and exporter. As in from consumption to production 😆
you are right cos obi should start practicing what he preaches. He should begin to partner with those companies he import thier product to Nigeria as sole distribution which he used is then office as chairman of tincan under abacha. He can't be president and so he should channel his energy about becoming an industrialist. I laugh those people who think been a trader has more effect to be an industrialist. What Dangote contribute to Lagos economy and employment wise can be matched by all the trading zone in Lagos. They are just noise maker. 70% of those so called traders in Lagos are making their money from crime not the shops. Only few are actually making it big over there. I have been to alaba, computer village and ladipo severally. Most of those shop owner don't have goods worth 5m and no matter the years of business legally, they will just be doing fine but not super rich. I know many igbos in my street in mainland before I left there, they are just ok not so rich like you have some who will pack an expensive ride. One even told me how is neighbor shop was sealed cos he was using it as also drug storage.

And a whole nation couldn’t
Anyways nothing amazes me anymore in this country
It is well
Is it not better to kuku sell the whole NNPCL to Dangote and let him give returns to the govt. Because the things the refineries could not do for many years, that is what Dangote is doing with ease. Our refineries suppose to have been exporting refined petrol to foreign countries long time ago, but they could not even give us petrol locally, not to talk of exporting. Now Dangote is exporting PMS with ease

This is the only way to industrialize Nigeria, the government needs to seize the opportunity to galvanize the elites especially those who looted the nation's economy by giving them corruption amnesty for them to fund critical sectors that will boost the nation's economy and increase revenue for the investors and the government.
We need Investment in cargo and human train station lines transversing the length and breadth of Nigeria, connecting Nigeria to all it's neighbouring countries. Investment in industries that will embrance value addition of Local agricultural produce maint for Nigeria and west African states consumption.
Investment in car manufacting targeting conquering West Africa.
I had exact same thought today while listening to dangote on TVC. It will be a sight to behold of all the big money guys whether stolen or not could pull these fund out to build critical sectors of the economy rather than storing them in foreign bank making money for the foreign countries or septic tanks where it is rotting away.

Import ing crude and exporting refined products. Value added and there will be a net forex gain

Eg important crude of about $1 million worth and exporting refined products of about $1.5 billion worth.

Do you expect him to wait for crude of NNPC so that they can sabotage his operations?

government is not your enemy. The ignorance that tells nigerians that a refinery is a government business is you and the Nigerian government's enemy
...

Pardon my ignorance but i believe i need to inform you about certain things.

The government is responsible for policy making, and i can tell you that the handling of the oil sector was virtually controlled by the government.

It was of recent the government began the deregulation of the oil sector. And for your information, Nigerians notably the SS guys have been refining oil in the creeks and the government keep destroying their establishments. Obasanjo had to almost wipeout a whole village because of this.

See, the government is fully responsible for the success of a nation. They arguably dictate the industries they want to succeed in a country.

I will inform you that even the capitalist USA gives out fundings to big techs for development. This type of funding was what inspires the innovation of the world wide web. recently, US commited over 500 billion dollars to the AI industry. A lot of industries in the US are funded in part by federal funds. This is why Trump is threatening them with rescinding of funds including law firms...

Most of the success you see in China today is as a result of the government. They have 5, 10 15 and 20 years plans for specific sectors, fund them , and make way for the survival of the fittest. A case study is the green energy industry and electric vehicle.

So my guy, the success of your country is dependent on your government. The government creates a goal (policies), fund it, make the environment conducive, and gives room for competition. And if a competitor is amassing too much power or perpetrating some anti-trust or anti-competition actions, the government comes in and curtail them. An example is Jack ma of Alibaba... This is where the US needs to do more.....

China is a command economy, Nigeria is not. Almost none of the success in the US (a market economy like Nigeria) is from the government. We can keep fooling ourselves into believing that the government is supposed to be refining oil in 50+ years of failure with this concept isn't enough.

The US does not give out funds. It issues contracts for work. For example, it will issue a contract for somebody to develop a battery that runs on air. Then companies bid and the winner delievers the work. It never gets itself involved in anything outside of government because Donald Trump and Joe Biden are not trained in refineries or big tech.

Did you also consider the pressure we would have been having on Naira assuming we are still importing refined products which he is now refining about 40% of local consumption. Apart from that Dangote Refinery exports refined products to West African countries like Togo, Ghana, Benin etc

Dangote imported crude oil because NNPC didn't supply
