Originalsly:exactly my thoughts.. the stair case would have solved this problem. It’s very obvious that access was initially restricted. Since it’s a high profile building that even houses FIRS staffs. The stairs closed or restricted due to security reasons for the big men. So outsiders wouldn’t gain easy access to the building. That’s exactly what happened. Now it backfired |

certain things like high rise building , bridges , Aviation , Motorway etc are only safe in a country that is allowed to develop. Not one that is deliberately held back from development by oyinbo people.Else you playing Russian roulette. RIP to the dead. It must alos be mentioned that by the time the latest projects of FIRS land on Nigerian population people will be whipping and looking for other countries to flee to, cause thier job is a source of misery to the population. Right now all over the world all over youtube, people a running heltar skelta looking for which country to hide to escape the escalating tax theft by government agencies as tax is now being weaponized for population control. Choose your career carefully so that its one that contributes to your people and not a joib that brings misery to others cause one day you have to go back to answer for it. |

If you live or work in a high rise, three things. 1. Mandatory fire drills regularly. 2. Quality fire detection and suppressing equipment. 3. And most important to offices especially. Minimize clutter and the use of flammable materials. That means for ecample the excessive use of as simple an item as paper and books. That is fuel. It is an office not a fuel depot. In low rise building the number one killer is access. That iron barricade that protects you from external invasion will also hinder your escape. If you have to search for keys to unlock your barricade. In an emergency you are likely doomed. |

Mega City in the mud. So if na something bigger than this that's how multitude will perish. We play too much. Teach a child only safety in school he will be smarter than all these Govt packaged officials. Our safety level is zero. Lagos island with lots of high rise building not having the best equipment when it comes to fire and natural disaster. If na billing Dem go dey activate. When u have little educated citizens at local Government offices. Which magic will happen. They cannot think above their capacity |

Preator:Thank you. Shocking when I saw that. Not all stair cases are used for evacuation. There is fire exit staircases. First, no fire door. Second, no fire alarm Third, no fire team so no equipment. And I'm sure they do not conduct weekly fire drill and all the occupants in that building do fire training. When I was in Nigeria and worked in a big establishment like that, nothing of such happened. In every country, the government budget highest on maintainance followed by salary, training and awareness before you talk of new projects. In Nigeria, its the opposite. Phantom new projects, cos that's where they steal from, salary cos its a must. Maintainance that has the highest budget is the lowest while training and awareness is non existing. |

madridguy:Your guess is as good as mine. They do not have any safety measures in place to mitigate occurrences like this. This obviously is the Nigerian way; all we know how to do is to hold endless prayers and do nothing. If someone had tried to advise them years ago to put plans in place to tackle occurrences like this, they would say God forbid. A bunch of hypocritical people. We are not chrietains in this country, we are just a bunch of religious hypocrites. sammyscholar:Yes you are right, but something like a functional somke detector would have alerted the whole building of the fire earlier before the smoke spread, for christ sake this was not an instataneuos explosion, meaning the fire staed small and was undetected with no alrm until it spreads this much and there are no emergy evacuation plan in case of a fire. Ask them if they have ever conducted any Fire emergency drill in the building before, and your guess is as good as mine. femi4:Don't mind them, they will not learn. |
| Re: FIRS Mourns Four Assistant Directors, Managers Killed In Afriland Towers Fire by descarado: 7:57am On Sep 18, 2025 |
blackgold2018:You all are so ignorant. In a case of any fireout break, there are staircases that have fire doors. It will be boldly written there. Use in case of fire emergency., fire alarm door. There is a place everybody will run to following the fire exist pathways whereever they are. Its called assembly point. Once the fire start, alarms will go off, somebody will call the fire department and everybody will follow the fire exit pathway only Not every staircase is designed for this job os of the type of doors used. Those that died shouldn't have if they have the necessary fire equipments installed and fire team part of their workforce. You see Nigeria, I have never seen people as delusio'nal and unser'ious as Nigerians. They take a lot of things for granted |

Reference:High rise or not, it is compulsory. The health and safety team is a must in every organisation and fire drills are conducted every week. That is a requirement. Then the national fire department comes in every 2 or 3 months for their all round checks to make sure everything is working. Heaven help you if your establishment fails. Directors are easily sacked cos of this. Everybody in that building must undergo mandatory training. Everybody. The fire dept train them as soon as they are employed. Every year or six months, they do it again, write exams. Yes o. You must know all that you should know. Where the fire extinguishers are located, the colours and how to use them and o the type of fire. How to evacuate. Gosh, Do they even employ fire service men as part of the workforce or they relied on the one from the govt. All major hospitals, big buildings, schools, markets, prisons, any place that have a specific number of people MUST have fire dept that is part of their payroll and workforce. So also industries, big farms etc. We only care about how much to steal and pepper them. Buy houses we will never occupy you, 100 cars and and party. What an unserious country |

Why is there no fire emergency plan in place. There should have been fire emergency ladders on that building. May their souls rest in peace. |

jubrilELsudan:that's serious. I was not impressed with d video of the rescue efforts at all. Though not by professionals. I thought fire service has a truck that has an extendable arm to rescue people from heights. They could have spread a or hang a net below for people to jump or crawl down. |

Helloworld123:No, i dont think say i wise. But years of weekly fire drills especially in an industry where safety is always at the forefront has made my reactions to unscheduled drills automatic. I do not carry my laptop, my bag or anything personal. I am not a trained fire fighter so i dnt run to carry the extinguisher. I simply file out using the fire escape until i reach the muster point. And await further instructions. It might seem wise to you, but it's the norm for us. It should be the norm everywhere. Change in your office can start with you. #9 IOGP Rules |

Preator:The question is, have you ever have to put that drill to use? Have you been in a situation before? I have worked in the oil and gas industry where drills are a big deal too. The day there was a risk of an explosion in the plant was when I understood that drill are good but do not accurately simulate reality and things get ugly quickly when people panic. So, basically, there's nothing special about the drills you do. I don't pray you experience it through. It's a horror you'd be traumatized by forever. |
