Hi everyone, I’m posting on behalf of a friend who’s been experiencing a skin issue.

From time to time, her skin starts to swell and becomes very itchy. When she scratches the area, it gets worse l, the swelling increases, and the irritation spreads. She describes the sensation as feeling like “worms” under the skin. There are no visible worms, but that’s how she describes the feeling. All the recommended drugs so far isn't working.

Has anyone experienced something similar or know what this could be? Any suggestions on what might be causing it or what drugs she could get

Thanks in advance!
go inject hydrocortisone and dexamethasone

I had the same experience around 20 years ago. It was due to allergy. I was fortunate then because the doctor didn't conduct any test but only told me to stop eating sea foods. Fortunately, I stopped eating fish and the reaction stopped. Never experienced it till today but I am back to eating fish again.

I will advice you to go for allergy test or if you are super attentive, you could detect which food you're allergic to.

All the best in finding the right allergy.

That's an allergic reaction.

She's coming in contact with something that her system doesn't like.

There's this tiny white tablet that works for it, I've forgotten the name. Will write it when I remember.
Loratadine.

Can be combined with an oral steroid like Prednisone.

It's an allergic reaction especially with cold.
It itches and further gets irritated when you scratch. Find below what to do:
1. Relax. Cover your self with warm clothes or:
2. Bathe Hot water and rub in some balm like rub or aboniki etc
3. Take Piriton tablet 1
Like I said your skin is just reacting so simply identify the cause esp cold conditions and warm up

Most likely Hereditary angioedema (HAE) . A medical test would help u identify it better. This must have started since child hood.

It's get worst when ur immune system is weak, when u'r sick or sometimes when u are exposed to cold. So many other factors cud also trigger it. Just don't scratch, the more u scratch the bigger it's get.

Get to a reputable test center and get tested for HAE.

For now in Nigeria 🇳🇬 I don't no of a cure.. U just have 2 learn to manage it..

This is urticaria; a form of allergic reaction. Let her take note of what she’s allergic to and try avoiding it.

These are Hives. An allergic rection to something around you. All you need to do is observe what's causing it and stay away from it. If it's itchy I'd suggest a second generation anti - histamine preferably - Levocitirizine(Xyzal). Unlike 1st generation, you don't get sleepy or drowsy when you take it and It would calm the itch and allergy immediately.

Go run tests!!! Go run tests to know what kind of fungi/bacteria or whatever it may be before administration of drugs. It saves time and money.
Nairaland is not a hospital. You may end up spending money yet the ailment remains.

Ah, that skin condition. It's called Hives or Urticaria. It can be very itchy at times. I know exactly how she feels.

Preventing the triggers is more effective than cure. And when it comes to Hives, there a lot of potential triggers.

They can be dry skin, specific medications, bathing too much hot water, some insect or flower contacts, insect dust, the type of food she eats, coming in contact with some type of latex clothes.

Even sometimes the trigger can be autoimmune. This means that the some white cells attack some harmless type of cell in her body and their actions lead to Hives.

The first thing she needs to do is do a comprehensive detection of the cause. This is the most important step that she can take. She needs to counter all those things I listed one by one, till she knows the actual trigger. Once gotten it can easily be solved.

But if it is not detected, then it's an autoimmune hives. To relieve her symptoms, she can take the normal Piriton tablets. They are excellent in giving her relieve as they are an histamine (itching) blockers.

Sorry once again, and I am available to help if you have further questions.

This is egbesin 100%. Not any other thing these people are calling it grin

It happened to me in childhood.

I've forgotten the local treatment but I can ask my aunt.

I remember rubbing palmoil and bitter leaf juice on it. Some people recommended kerosene and something else back then. This is a long time ago.

Palmwine is also effective.

If you're in the South West, ask around for a solution. It's not so hard to get.

This is clearly a result of an allergic reaction. undecided

To properly diagnose, your friend should go in immediately for an allergy test to determine which substances they are allergic to and need to watch out for. Alternatively, your friend could pay very close attention to what he eats, touches, sees, or even smells in the moments before these swellings show up on her skin, and then take that information to the doctor for further review. Please understand that allergic reactions may be life-threatening. undecided

This is filariasis. Go to a hospital or if you don’t have the money for that, go to a reputable pharmacist and take the medication prescribed for you religiously. You are going to be okay if you act fast.
