Same ministry headed by obedients latest saviour Aregbesola and he made a mess of himself that getting a passport took almost a year. He was only good at declaring holidays but obedients wants him as the upcoming Senate President or SSG.

I doubt this centralized system will make the process faster majorly because of our terrible logistics. Let's wait and see sha

But I thought at some point these human beings claimed the Nigerian passport was being produced outside the country?

This looks great but the only way this loopholes in the state command can be blocked is if they don’t still transfer the printed passports to state commands cos those guys will frustrate and bill you again before they give you
Re: Nigeria Shuts 96 Passport Production Centres, Adopts Centralised System by NwokoloOwa: 8:24pm On Sep 18, 2025
Not really impressed with anything "centralization". Better to have a decentralized system with strong and innovative tech driven coordination.

There was really no problem with the decentralized option. It was all a matter of poor monitoring and supervision which can still rear its head in a centralized system with more devastating consequences. Even in Buhari e-passport era, I processed and received my passport in 24hrs seamlessly, and without paying a tout

Imagine centralizing Driver's Licence which to me is even a more powerful document than a passport.

I come in peace

I am so happy with this development. Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo has proved to all Nigerians that Nigeria can work if we put in the necessary efforts.

So what'll happen to all the machines at those 96 centres?

This guyz in Tinubu govt fit give person brain migraine ... for the 1st time i am learning centralizing source is better than multiple source

So it more efficient for 1million applicant to queue on a source than spreading applicants

Always coming up with counterproductive initiatives

For passport to be ready in one week is absolutely a game changer. This just means passport issues are now a thing of the past.

Ofunaofu:
Stop this 'we vs. them' attitude you're displaying here, the elections are long over.

If you can't engage logically by explaining how a centralized passport production location in Abuja could be faster than the existing decentralized setup with 96 locations, then maybe you should quit Nairaland and go rant at a local agbadó beer parlour where your bigotry and bitterness might be better received.

If the old machines in these 96 locations could only print 250 to 300 passports daily, why not simply replace the machines with new ones and keep the 96 locations, rather than centralize everything in Abuja
When you complain first before you ask questions of what you don't understand, how will you get understand the glow? When you are too busy criticizing, how will you know when government has done anything good before. Everything has been computerized before now while you were busy criticizing Tinubu, so don't think you will have to trek to Awka or Obollo Afor before you can get new passport. It is not all the 96 locations that get 250 requests daily.

Making everything to be done in one place is far better than you proposal, it will also reduce or eliminate related corruption to it. At least with this perhaps you will change your mind to vote for Tinubu in 2027 and stop following who no no road that can still say whether he is in the PDP, LP or ADC

Depriest2020:
So everyone that needs an international passport must come to Abuja? Not fair to those outside Abuja. From Sokoto to Abuja is about 18hrs drive.
Chikarata2020:
Does it mean that is only in Abuja one can do his passport so
No. Data capture and collection will still happen at the processing centres. It's only the printing that is centralized.

The plan is that within a week after your data has been captured, it will be printed and send to your data capture centre.

Tinubu has been centralizing instead of decentralizing. This is strange for someone who has been pretentiously shouting restructuring since forever.

Look at state police, he is dragging his feet while insecurity takes over Nigeria

Kudos to him with the incentive programme...

The FRSC should go and emulates this system too for the driver license...
This alone will reduce double dealing and use of authorised person as agent by the agency personnel.

Well, I just read the headlines.

Centralised system might be okay for their operation.

How will the delivery of the passport becomes less hassle and authenticated is the main issue. I dont think this should be applauded for now.

He should bring down the cost of obtaining passport, ease of obtaining and renewal should be his focus in all.

If Government make the mistake of making Tunji Ojo the Minister of Power like this, all the witches and wizards preventing power generation, distribution and transmission will be exposed and expunged within 2 years.

Nah. We had over 90 places where they print passports. Both home and in the Diaspora so that is fine. Only the Abuja nis hq that will do that henceforth
Trying to understand cos 90 places printing 250 passports daily is 22,500 daily meanwhile centralized process prints 4,000 daily... Am I missing something here?

This centralisation move is long overdue. For 62 years, multiple passport centres created loopholes, delays & inefficiency. A single hub with 5,000 daily capacity is a smart step toward accountability, faster delivery & restoring credibility to our travel documents.
96 centers x 250daily = 24,000 DAILY VS Centralised =5,000 can someone explain to me how it makes sense.
Re: Nigeria Shuts 96 Passport Production Centres, Adopts Centralised System by Kanixt(m): 7:06am On Sep 19, 2025
We have 96 centres across the country producing maximum of 300 passport on daily basis. And now, we have a centralized point producing maximum of 5000 on daily basis.

Now let's look at it. Are we progressing?

1) 300×96= 28,800 daily, former
2) 5000 daily, later.

Where are we going?
