2027: Buhari’s Loyalists Rally Behind Atiku, Criticize APC Leadership by iwaeda(op): 9:55pm On Sep 18, 2025
ABUJA – In a significant political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections, a group of loyalists of former President Muhammadu Buhari has declared support for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, signaling divisions within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The development was formalized at a private meeting in Abuja, where state chairmen of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC)—Buhari’s original political platform—met with Atiku at his residence to discuss future political collaboration.

Atiku, who is spearheading efforts to build a broad coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), welcomed the delegation and pledged to work with them in reshaping Nigeria’s political landscape.

The CPC bloc, considered Buhari’s traditional political base, expressed dissatisfaction with the current APC leadership, saying it had strayed from the ideals that brought the coalition to power in 2015.

One of the leaders, speaking at the meeting, said:

“We are the true followers of Buhari, and we are here today, Sir. When this coalition started, we identified early on with the party we wanted to align with. President Muhammadu Buhari has left an unprecedented mark in the history of this country, and we will not allow it to be lost. We are now ready to merge into the new political platform that God has chosen for us, appointing you as the leader, that platform now being the ADC.”

Another CPC stalwart drew comparisons between the Buhari years and the present administration, stating that the original movement’s values were no longer visible in government.

In his response, Atiku commended the group for their solidarity and described the development as a major boost for his coalition-building efforts.

“I am particularly delighted to receive you today. This meeting represents a continuation of your journey and struggles. I believe that with your support, we will be able to translate this journey into success. We will also work to form a government that reflects inclusivity and service to the people, committed to peace and unity across Nigeria,” Atiku said.

He further urged them to mobilise their supporters for the ongoing voter registration exercise, stressing its importance in shaping the 2027 polls.

The Abuja meeting is seen by analysts as an early sign of one of the most consequential political realignments since the formation of the APC a decade ago.

No surprises.

They did it covertly in 2023

Nothing stops them doing it with their full chest is 2027.

Politics is always about interest, no morals.

Tinubu won despite all these people not supporting him in 2023.

what makes it different now that he is an incumbent? And not just incumbent that doesn’t know how to wield power.

Look at how he removed subsidies against all odds.

Look at what he did in Rivers state.

Does that show a sign of a weak man?

Besides, Atiku isn’t really loved in the north as the opposition will make you think, especially by northern politicians

Often times you wonder how these politicians reason. Though you only have to pity their followers.
It's hard for people who can't reason for themselves.
All we want is a better Nigeria regardless of who is in charge.

Who are the BUHARI loyalists?
Who are the BUHARI loyalists?

Who is their leader?

There are no loyalists anywhere. Everyone is just looking for food to eat by forming a group and give it a whatever name they want it

They supported him in the last election
But they failed.
It is nothing new.
They supported Buhari for years without results too, until Emilokan steps in.
It is nothing to worry about.
Not all of them though, but majority of them...
Go prepare yourself
Emilokan till 2031 nothing/nobody is remaining him any time soon in 2027.

2027 will be interesting.

Atiku should contest, Tinubu should contest, Goodluck Jonathan should also contest, Peter Obi should contest, and Makinde should also contest. Let us see how Tinubu the worst president Nigeria has ever produced will 'grab, snatch, and run with it.

The opposition parties have already made the fundamental mistake of not campaigning for electoral reforms early enough. I am talking about a serious nationwide campaign.

Or is this is the type of electoral system that the opposition parties will also practice when in power? They should tell us how their own will be different from the current one.

They have no names?
We know Malami and El Rufai...and who?
The majority of CPC block already visited Tinubu and vowed their allegiance.

https://guardian.ng/politics/former-cpc-leaders-visit-tinubu-pledge-support-for-apc-in-2027/

Founding members of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) on Tuesday stormed the Presidential Villa, Abuja, in a show of solidarity with President Bola Tinubu, pledging to deliver massive support for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.

The delegation, led by former Nasarawa State Governor and ex-senator, Tanko Al-Makura, assured the President that the CPC bloc within the APC remained firmly behind his administration and would mobilise nationwide to ensure the party’s victory in the next election.

Al-Makura, speaking for the delegation, also assured Tinubu of unwavering loyalty:

“We are with you in loyalty, in person, and in purpose. May Almighty God grant you the wisdom and strength to continue leading our nation.”

While praising Tinubu for guiding the country through difficult economic times and maintaining peace and stability, the former Nasarawa state governor also commended the president for honouring the memory of their late leader and mentor, former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Recalling the CPC years preceding the historic merger that gave birth to the APC in 2013, Al-Makura described Tinubu and Buhari as two visionaries whose political partnership laid the foundation for justice, equity, and national renewal.

“Mr. President, you and President Muhammadu Buhari shared more than a political alliance; you shared a vision of a Nigeria built on justice, economic sovereignty, and good governance. Together, you conceptualised and built a platform that remains our pride and our cause,” Al-Makura said.

He pledged that the CPC family, comprising former governors, ministers, lawmakers, women leaders and party executives, would work tirelessly to consolidate Tinubu’s reforms and sustain the APC legacy ahead of 2027.

The high-powered delegation included: Barr. Abdulraheem Adebayo Shittu, former Minister of Communications; Architect Waziri Bulama, former APC National Secretary; Prof. Haruna Hima, former House of Representatives member; Hon. Garba Datti Mohammed, former Deputy Minority Whip, House of Representatives; Ibrahim Baba, former CPC governorship candidate and Federal Commissioner, RMAFC; Mary Efere, former CPC governorship candidate; Chris Bukuma, Adamawa politician and CPC stalwart; Farouk Adamu Aliyu, former governorship candidate; Comrade Richard, pioneer CPC National Organising Secretary; Raza Zakari, former CPC National Vice Chairman; Lucy Ibe, former CPC National Organising Committee member; Oyama, former Deputy National Secretary and APC merger negotiator; Ayuba Baba, former CPC protocol officer (2003–2015); Edwemba, CPC leader from Edo State; and Hon. Jawa, former House of Representatives member.

They were joined by other former commissioners, advisers, national officers, and women leaders of the Buhari Support Organisation, as well as ex-members of the CPC National Executive Council.
Responding, President Tinubu declared that his administration had achieved its revenue mobilisation target and would no longer rely on borrowing to finance government operations. He emphasised that prudent management, rather than debt, now guides Nigeria’s economic direction.
