I thought suspected or known cultists should be discreetly investigated,incontrovertible proofs and evidence gathered against them,then prosecuted and sent to prison,then the houses can now be confiscated and converted to other uses?.

After Jailing the offenders? The way some of you reason as if you don’t understand Nigerian realities? So they jail the owner of the house, he doesn’t have allies that will launch attacks against those living in the house sooner or later? or will these homeless indigenes be given escorts too? That very incentive must be destroyed to deter others from following the destructive path of cultism. The same way properties of Kidnerppers are demolished. The action is well justified.

The government don't even have the constitutional right to seize or convert them unless it is established that criminal activities are taking place inside them and court order is obtained.
Other than that, you can't just seize or convert or destroy houses only because it belongs to alleged cultists. If a person commit crime, arrest him or her and charge them to court. What's the connection between being a cultist and having a house? This is sick

Crime Never Pays!

This move has never served as a true deterrent. Burning food, goods, contraband import, and houses did not serve as deterrent, the crime still continues. There are better deterrents. These houses can instead become government property after proper conviction. Depending on location, they can be used as staff quarters, schools, hospitals, offices, etc.
There are places in the world where criminals are made to agree with the government to develop their communities for lesser punishment.

Even if the houses belong to cultists, why should destroying their properties be the justice for their alleged crimes? Did they use their properties for criminal activities? Did they court give order for it to be destroyed?

Secondly even if there's a legal basis for the government to take action against private property (which I doubt) why not seize the properties and use them as public assets? Zero strategic vision

Although destruction or demolition isn't the best way but I think the best is to turn it to a sort of lodge or quarters for military/combat officers with the hope that the area and its axies would be more secured. Also, with that, more distress calls in the vicinity would be attended to easily and promptly. With time, the officers that stay in those buildings would have access to intelligence info from the residents which would be used to stem the tide of criminalities in the community and in the state at large.
