It’s a sad day in the faculty of education, University of Lagos as the newly elected president of the Nigerian university Education Students Association (NUESA) 2025/26 Academic session, Mr. Balogun Damilola Raphael passed away after his body was seen today 48 hours after he reportedly got drown while swimming at Eleko beach during an hangout event to celebrate the successful handover done at the faculty from the previous tenure to theirs on Wednesday 17th September 2025. He literally spent less than 24 hours as the president of the faculty student association.

This is a huge blow to the whole University community and the prayer is for the lord to accept his soul.

I'm sure the beach does not have lifeguards. I don't even think any commercial body of water in Nigeria has a lifeguard. That's very unfortunate.

The grave no just deep. Children playing at the beach can easily dig that, maybe na the camera angle sha....what do I know

I don't see any sense in digging such a shallow grave to bury someone especially in such an environment where it can easily be washed away by sea tide.

Stop going to the beach if you can't swim or don't swim if you don't know his to swim properly, may his soul rest in peace.

In Yoruba Traditions, anyone who died drawing is buried beside the water that killed him/her

The community seized his body and will say its tradition. I witnessed one in alpha beach 3 boys died the previous day and they were buried like this .. i was like this is too shallow na. I stopped going to the beach after that.

A man in my village got killed on his bed during an heavy rainfall that was accompanied by a powerful storm.He was sleeping while the storm removed his roof, in the cause of him struggling to escape, a plank him on his head on that same bed before he could escape. HE died on the spot..IF he had been in his farm i am sure people would have said that he woudnt have died if he was home

Really...? If I as much as stand beside any water body, I just begin to imagine what drowning looks like...staring at the water too long would feel like it's pulling me to itself.
