This is a good idea, I think the government can get cheap labour from vagrants and people who are locked up for misdemeanour crimes, to pay for their sins...it will help boost the state and nation development and also make those vagrants or almajiris useful. Soviet Union used this model and became the great Russia today. |

Direct labour is the antithesis to Corruption. If you have that in effect.. official corruption will be reduced tremendously It was implemented long ago in LASG by Jakande. It cut cost by almost 70%. Due to the corruption started by Military Government and continued by Civilian rule, Direct Labour can never be reintroduced. |

HenryWilliams:If you say so. Obviously the corruption would move from the contractors conspiring with Govveenors to Civil servants conspiring with labourers thereby keeping the Governors out of the loop. |

KnowAll:Contracts supervisions bring so much to supervisors, money for elections, subheadings for looting are embedded in contracts,so contracts will never end in nigeria even with millions of engineering graduates, universities’vice chancellors are awarding contracts in environments that are called citadels of learnings or leaning.Nigeria iherself is a contracted society. |

Newsmills:Theoretically it is a good concept but being supervised by civilians would make it fail unlike when supervised by a determined military regime like that of Ibrahim Traore. |

We did all that before. Our people's greed, cutting corners and simple ineptitude made those measures fail. Indorama petrochemicals that is the main stay of Nigeria's fertilizer production was formerly Eleme petrochemicals. When Eleme was in the hands of government, it never worked. Fertilizer scarcity was the order of the day. But that's now a thing of the past. Nigerian airways was direct labour. Nigerian railways was direct labour, NASCON was direct labour. What did we do with it? Our people embezzled and ran it into the ground. |

Toosure70:True talk! People that desperately want "one Nigeria" don't know that, the British did not create Nigeria to work for the betterment of the people that's why they introduced divide and rule and religion. |

KnowAll:Why are you directing this to the FEDERAL GOVT? It is STATES that should be using Direct Labour in their projects. The FG does not oversee civilian populations and can’t coordinate such an activity the way a STATE government can. So Anambra state for instance, should be able to use DIRECT LABOUR to build a city metro rail system and tracks in Onitsha. So GO TO YOUR STATE GOVERNOR and ask him why he can’t use Direct Labour in projects. Leave Tinubu out of your head. |

KnowAll:It's already done and it has been done since the behinning of time, but it can only be done for small jobs (economics). At the federal level it is called the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), at state level it has all sorts of names like Public Works Gang, Public Works Department (PWD), etc. |

Mbanda:You should have advised your local government chairman to introduce the direct labor scheme, & use it as an avenue to give u employment, instead of coming here to give us advice about your President? Charity they say begins @ home. |

Burob:An average tilimbu supporter don't know that there are things that can only be initiated and introduced by the office of the GCFR and not by any other office. Everytime these tilumbu supporters will tell us to go meet our governors or local government chairman even in Fulani herdsmen related matters. What is tilumbu doing there if we should turn to the governors and local government chairmen for everything? |

I have been thinking if this idea since my Higher institution days that instead of wasting homogous amount on this foreign contractors on engineering why can't the states trains their Siwes, Industrial Training students and graduates, pay them and see how they will work with their heart for the country. See how the Nigeria will be one of the developed country like USA, China, Malaysia, Japan, Russia etc. |
